"Brute forcing" to Legend

I made this chart for a discussion in a thread that got deleted. It shows how many games it takes to go from Diamond 5 to Legend assuming a particular winrate, on average.

WR Games : WR Games
87.44% 20.0 : 48.19% 420.4
68.25% 40.0 : 48.02% 440.2
61.65% 60.0 : 47.86% 460.1
58.25% 80.0 : 47.71% 479.8
56.14% 100.0 : 47.56% 500.7
54.68% 119.9 : 47.43% 519.8
53.59% 140.0 : 47.30% 540.0
52.74% 159.9 : 47.18% 559.5
52.04% 180.1 : 47.06% 579.9
51.47% 199.9 : 46.95% 599.5
50.98% 219.8 : 46.84% 620.0
50.55% 239.9 : 46.74% 639.4
50.17% 260.1 : 46.64% 659.6
49.84% 279.8 : 46.54% 680.7
49.54% 299.7 : 46.45% 700.4
49.26% 320.3 : 46.36% 720.8
49.01% 340.3 : 46.28% 739.6
48.78% 360.4 : 46.20% 759.0
48.57% 380.3 : 46.12% 779.0
48.38% 399.6 : 46.04% 799.7

Note that the games it takes scales HARD once you get below 50% winrate. Assuming (quite optimistically) that you can knock out one game every six minutes, then every ten games in an extra hour of dedication, and the whole thing needs to be accomplished within a month (in between rank resets). That means that near 46% winrate every 0.01% of winrate difference equals approximately fifteen minutes of grinding. Or even worse if you’re running a control deck.

It’s simply not feasible to brute force a deck with a winrate below 46% up to Legend rank (outside of botting, but botting is bad, don’t bot). Even 46% means putting in 81-ish hours of work just on the D5-to-Legend climb and that can be quite difficult difficult for most people (with actual lives) to pull off in a month.

Also most of the time the #1 deck at Diamond 4-1 is around 54% winrate or so, and you can expect a D5 to L climb with that deck to average 13 hours or so if it’s reasonably aggressive (not control).

Was it your stats and skill thread that got deleted? If so… like why? Weird.

These stats fall in line with what I tell people. You should expect it to take like 120ish games to get to legend from D5 with a good deck and pilot. I think a lot of people lie or get super lucky with a great win rate and think otherwise.

This all sounds accurate from my experance as well.

Wild allways was much faster well cause so many diffrent decks and decks can be must stronger there.

That is some neat info, thank you!

Thanks. I was just wondering if the penalty I pay for playing mobile (probably lose 1/50 to a disconnect, even being careful), is worth the extra games I can squeak I’m while climbing.

Looks like it is because a .5% drop in winrate is made up for by playing an extra 10-20 games.

True if you’re playing Pure Paladin or Enrage Warrior but pretty much anything else you’d be treading water at best.

I don’t have anywhere near that level of connection issues on my phone. I used to but then I bought a phone that isn’t cheap.

It’s not so much the phone as the fact that I do it while commuting (on the train). So sometimes my signal drops out.

Feel you on this. I drive everywhere for work, and play this game during my 45 minute drive times between locations. Oh look I’m entering a zone with no signal, how quaint.

Please tell me you’re not playing Hearthstone and driving simultaneously.

Yup. There’s no critical thinking in HS, just dragging the green cards. Can do that while driving.

Your driver’s license should be revoked. You’re a physical danger to yourself and those around you.

Oh stop, you’re too kind.

When you get into an accident, I sincerely hope no one else is hurt by your behavior.

That you are stupid and have a death wish it’s your problem but the fact you endanger others because of it is totally reprehensible.

Absolutely. I don’t think chia is overall stupid but they’re definitely stupid on this issue.

As a matter of fact, it’s just too much. chia, I’m putting you on permanent ignore. You are dead to me. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

But to the people that don’t, let me know if he apologizes.

You’ve said like 10 different times you’re ignoring me. I suppose those were just more of the same theatrics you put on.

This is just more of the same.

Did you take into account:

  • Win streaks
  • Number of stars you start with in a season
    ?

These do not exist at Diamond 5 and up, so no.

(I think some high legend players might get 1 bonus star for D5-1 but the VAST majority of Legend players do not so close enough)

The chart does NOT include time to get to Diamond 5, the number of games is just for D5 to Legend.
