Do you remember Anomaly Mode from the Dalaran Heist and the Tombs of Terror? How awesome would it be if we could have such crazy games with each other? Since I would love playing with these crazy rules and alterations I have thought of how that could be implemented into the game.
A big problem with such great ideas is of course always monetization. But I realized that all those game changes are implemented via cards. When you play Anomaly Mode that Anomaly is put into your deck as a card.
So, you’ve guessed it. Card packs! Anomaly card packs. One for each expansion. And it will have cards which completely change how you would normally play the game.
What are those cards?
Of course all those effects from Anomaly Mode like „ALL Battlecries trigger twice“, „After a player plays a card that costs (8) or more, add a random treasure to their hand.“, „Multiclassing: You can use cards from ANY class building your deck.“ etc.
But that’s not all we know and love from those awesome dungeon run style adventures. The „twists“ like „Entombed Minions“ (after a certain amount of minions died on one side that player gets a big Deathrattle minion) can be cards too. And who could forget those cool treasure cards? Both normal and passives treasures could be „Anomaly cards“.
But wait, there’s even more. In those adventures you were able to make bigger decks and also have more than two copies of a card. So how about „Deck Size: X“ and „Card copies: X“? You also had a bigger health pool. „Starting Health: X“ And don’t forget the Hero Powers! „Hero Power: X“
Now that was the cards. What about the mode itself?
The most important thing is that you can challenge your friends as this makes the most sense if you want to play with all sorts of crazy rules. At best we had better social functions like guilds where people could meet and discuss those crazy game ideas, but normal friendly duels are fine for now I guess. That should probably be how most games will be played in this mode.
Since it’s purely about fun I don’t think something like Ranked would make much sense because of all the overpowered stuff you could pull off there. Casual on the other hand I think could potentially work though. The passive 10 gold for 3 wins probably should be removed though because it would be way too easy to make a completely overpowered deck to farm gold.
Now I know that for most this won’t be interesting since for some strange reason they only want to play „competitively“ and would rightfully call this „totally unbalanced“, but I know of at least some people that would certainly enjoy such a „sandbox mode“ where you could have so much fun messing around with all sorts of things.
So what do you think about this idea? Would you play this mode?
