Animations lag/crash/bugs the game., Why is there no option to turn it off?

Besides that there are those of us who don’t care for the animations.
It’s a purely aesthetic feature and I see no reason why it couldn’t be switched off. It will certainly address a lot of issues with lag, bugs and crashes.

Not downloading assets does the trick, but you might get no sound.

Sudden LAG on iPad Air

I had no lag (which occurs in ranked play) since the last update until today were I completed downloading assets. It seems like its the full resolution cards, sound or animation which would be responsible for lag on this iPad Air running iOS 12.4.6. Animations used to make the game charming, now it makes the game bulky and slow.
I’ve been playing without sound for a month now because of lag and crashing issues.
