It was likely copy/pasted from google translate. It’s hard to grammar in other languages.
I think Elementals are a bit broken in battlegrounds
i can understand not wanting to read all of it, but my punctuation/grammar is more than fine for a video game forum.
nope, english is my first and only language. i think my grammar is more than fine for a game forum, but i understand not wanting to read a wall of text
Yea, i am not reading that monster of a wall, use paragraphs and i will read it.
i agree its a deck with a high skill ceiling but the you dont get ist that decks that win by oulocking the enemy at some point arnt healthy for the game . also it limits design space like this . if yoz leave this combo in they would always have to think about what will happen if a mage plays this spell 5 times in a row with this combo or what if a mage playes this battle cry every turn. face hunter just hits face its not that interactive too yes , but atleast it does not prevent you from playing this game . Regarding priest , yes priest is also sometimes annoying to play against but its by no means easy like you seem to think . Pirest is all about maxing out your removal and value which certainly isnt an easy task . And again atleast priest lets you still play your cards unlike mage which can legitematly lock decks out of playing. Decks with these wincons arent fun in any cardgame , ask anybody with a mtg background . So its not because the deck was super strong , tho it seems like it was pulling ahead in legend , its also because it created a toxic environment which isnt healthy for the game.
I too enjoy making my opponents suffer on a subatomic level and am very unhappy that I cannot continue to do so to the same extent that tortollan pilgrim allowed me by locking out my opponents from taking any actions whatsoever. It is very clearly a deck of high skill level with equally high interaction levels whose enjoyment levels are directly proportional to the amount of suffering instilled in your opponent. I see no other option left but to play priest now.
Good Bye, thanks for playing.
oh, thats confusing
a deck that is played by such a small fraction of the player base and has such low win rates compared to other meta decks is not singlehandedly unhealthy for the game. if turtle mage had a winrate and was as popular as, say, early tempo dh, id say theres a problem, but the deck wasnt anywhere near popular enough in my opinion to negatively affect the overall meta.
also, as someone who has an mtg background, the large majority of players ive interacted with dont mind decks like combo/prison archetypes that lack a lot of interaction and mainly focus on locking the opponent out/comboing off, as theres an element of strategy in being able to get around your opponents lock pieces. furthermore, most of the people that dont like playing against these decks still wouldnt advocate banning them unless they’re overpowered
fair enough, ill space it out a bit. whether you read it or not, it looks like crap lmao
Is something wrong with my EU calendar? Or is it also different date in PT time zone?
My only counterpoint to this is that MtG is interactive regardless of what the opponent wants to do. Instants, counterspells, and the like let you do things on the opponent’s turn even if you can’t attack. One of the biggest strategic things to learn how to do is casting instants at the end of your opponent’s turn to handle mana use best and limit their rebuttal options.
That said, I absolutely love playing decks like this. My favorite decks back when I played were:
- A UW control deck focused on lockdown using Moat and counter spells and then finishing the opponent with Mirror Universe and a single Serra Angel.
- A 5-color deck which was almost guaranteed to go completely recursive by turn 4 with infinite turns, as much card draw as it wanted, and as many Banefire’s as I cared to point at the opponent’s face.
- The last deck I ever played used Equipose andIcy Manipulator to keep the opponent’s entire world phased our forever.
And yes, it’s been a million years since I played. A gas leak blew up my entire collection. ![]()
I’d have been one of the turtle mage players if it hadn’t required me crafting two epics.
P.S. Thanks for the paragraphs. ![]()
I can not comment on the skill level needed as i never played the Turtle mage. But it does not really matter as the deck was uninterractive. ANd for Priests, it requires some skill to know when to use X card and when not to use X card. If you use it too early you die, if you use it too late you die. etc.
Priests are all interactive decks even if it might not seem like it when you play a fast aggro deck. Priests are for the most part reactive, they react on what you do. So the key here is to bait the priesty in to using X card when it is not very valueble or hurtfull for you. The misstakes most do is overcommit to the board and then they get blown out by AE removal. Moderation kills the priests. Never have more than 3 minions on the board late game and early game make sure most minions have 3 or more health if it is possible. 2 health minions are just asking to get AE’d down.
Regarding freeze they are annoying and getting 4 freezes in a row sucks. But they are limited. With a Turtle mage they are not limited to 4. Me i would love for them to remove frost nova but it will never happen as it is a control tool that mages need if they try and play a control version of mage. WIthout it they just fall over and die.
Appreciate the link.
The uninteracitive feel of druid comes from the ramp. Overgrowth And LB are far more a problem than GA. It’s the fact the card can be cheated so efficiently. A 1 mana nerf to overgrowth would push back the GA and mount seller a turn. Mount seller existed for an entire expansion with 5 supporting expansions and saw no play. Come to ashes of outlands where overgrowth and two supporting cards (bogbeam and ironbark) are released and we suddenly see mount seller ramp decks. I just don’t feel hitting the name sake card was their best move. I’m sure a phaoris build picks up to do better with GA costing 8. Time will tell.
I did the same thing after the last expansion launched and they still sold the old tavern pass to BG. I contacted the customer support and got a full refund. Definitely worth a shot
magic still has instant cards , unlike hearthstone so its will always be a bit interactive , also in my years of playing magic i never met anybody that enjoys losing to a prison deck or a stacks deck .
Also you claim that it doesnt have a high winrate or popularity even tho it had a decent popularity especially the higher you climb in legend and it had a decent winrate there aswell. there is a reason that it was brought to grandmasters by multiple of the best players in the world.
To add to that , decks like shudderwock or patron warrior also didnt have a super high winrate even tho they were and obvious problem for the state of the game
I played Rexxar book, a battle and an arena, no Golden Students earned. Why it doesn’t work?
you have to do one match (or just start one match and concede) in like the last 4 solo adventures.
