Skip the Strongholds

I don’t know about you guys, but after one year of playing I don’t find Strongholds entertaining at all. It is not something with great designs, neither great rewards. Its more like an obstacle to my purpose.

Sure there are plenty people who would enjoy to make stronghold and claim the land. But I think if we could skip stronghold like we skip campaign, game will open a bit. What do you think?

P.S. or maybe make strongholds give x10 experience ;)))

Nowadays I only do strongholds that I need for legions, Tur Dulra when playing druid or if I need to open the dungeon for aspect.
When there’s a legion announcement, I’m able to finish the stronghold in the 6 minute window, sometimes in 2 minutes so I don’t think it’s too bad.

Having said that, I think sharing map progress with alts within the same season would be nice. I find it tedious to do them 3 or 4 times a season…

same goes for way points

why do you insist on making me go revisit them every single time…it doesnt make the game fun or serve any purpose other than to waste my time.

It’s a shame because they could be really cool one off events. But I understand there are more pressing matters to deal with so for now they should let them carry through season to season.

sounds like you should maybe just play on eternal

I think you are on the right track they need to be worth doing I would like to see them be lvl 150-200 and be very hard and have the things that are locked behind them be very important places to farm. overall all the overworld content is too easy and boring and not worth the time to do it

This. Everything is account bound on seasonal except waypoints and strongholds. Not sure why.

No point in doing them unless they have waypoints or you need them for legions.

And honestly….only if you need the waypoint.

Negatory. I enjoyem. Thus they cannot be changed.

If you look at the Season Renown you DON’T get all the Gold and Experience for Renown 3,4 &5 at the start. Some Strongholds are really low level in early Season. So Strongholds are an easy way to level and get gold in the early Season.

Yeah, I have nothing against them to stay for people who like them. However, I would personally rather checkmark a box at my character creation to skip them and not bother :}

Strongholds and waypoint have to be taken over to a new season!
(otherwise I will just don’t do it either)

The incentive to do them basically boils down to “how long do I want to have to ride my horse to get to a helltide or legion event”? Many strongholds hold waypoints and they are very useful for getting to events, especially the Dry Steppes world boss. Yes, they get tedious, especially since some got their levels jacked up for no apparent reason, but getting them done does still have a use.

The worst is the fire pyre one. That guy drones on forever before you can get some ashes to use for your purposes. I think I would have just kicked some dirt on the flames by the time he’s done talking.

It was cool the first couple times but I think I’ve done them about a dozen each now.

Prior to this season, I’d save the strongholds for first thing once i hit WT4. The mobs there are scaled to the player, so when you get to WT4 at level 55 or whatever doing the strongholds let you get the extra torment xp multiplier and an early start on ancestrals.

This is all completely irrelevant with how fast helltides level you this season.

I don’t do strongholds, only the one at the druid place if I play druid, they are so boring.

well id agree that stronghold kinda lost their meaning a little, now that leveling became super fast. There was a time where they were quite a nice EP income

I like the design i just dont do them anymore. I just do the ones i need for legion, if i do them at all.

Same goes for Sidequests. Give us the option to skip any sidequest that has been done in a previous season or on Eternal.

I know we technically don’t have to do them, but I don’t like having a million characters with an ! above them on my map.

Strongholds definitely need some incentives. I feel bad when my friends just ignore them.

I always do them for waypoints and variety in experience.
I would not have them automatically unlocked, as they are part of the world and not the campaign. You should make a conscious choice (beside wanting a WP) to unlock them.

I see them as becoming an experience similar to raids (and not the common Legion choice).

I would keep non-waypoint ones as Legion material.
I would make 1 of them raid-worthy:

  • 1 conquered stronghold is available as a raid every 3-6 hours, similar to World bosses
  • a harder fight that gives you another chance at an uber unique
  • a rotation (1 stronghold each day) would then make sense

I would even go further and spawn Non-tormented versions of bosses there, beside the regular ones specific ones.
I would go even further and provide an option to have a Tormented raid, with an obvious tormented boss at the end of the raid for a juicy 5x the loot.

/e Two problems I don’t know how to fix yet is repeated boss runs, to consume all your materials and the clash between material-summoned bosses and the current natural bosses of the strongholds.

/e2 My problems were:
Repeated boss runs meant boss farming with your mats and respawning them as many times as your mats allowed. This clashed with my raid design because the raid is way more limited in availability.
The clash between material-summoned bosses and the current natural bosses was self-explanatory.

Solution:

  • Lore bosses that drop uber uniques can stay in their respective existing arenas, even if I have a bone to pick over their current arenas (that’s for another topic). They don’t fit in strongholds because strongholds belong to the world, open adventure.
  • the current bosses, after being defeated in a raid, can drop either a resplendent spark or a new consumable that lets you either
    • reset all tempering status of an item
    • or lets you cancel 1 tempering line and gives you half the number of possible temperings (if 6 is max, then you get 3)

Resetting a tempering regardless of method implies changing code to reapply the masterworking bonus to any tempering regardless of when it is applied (or always apply the masterworking bonus in tempering results)
