Season 4 feedback - part 3

Hello everyone,

Welcome to my 3rd big seasonal feedback topic. My previous big one was Season 4 feedback - part 2.

In this post you will find feedback about:

  • builds I played (golemancer, thorns, heartseeker)
  • aspects
  • evade
  • salvaging
  • environment
  • tempering and reactions to it
  • whispers
  • chat
  • materials farming
  • strongholds
  • pits

Necro - Minions

  • Hulk smash…but hulk smash only if not body-blocked - I wish all golems could Leap when using activating the skill to fix this
  • still find the chill play outside of pit great
    • unfortunately it doesn’t last for long as efficiency comes back into foreground and I want to speed
    • just feel I have some shackles that don’t let me properly farm if I don’t move fast by lacking a dedicated movement skill (and that’s after ms on boots + temper boots + amulet)
  • I can see the fantasy of you have a shield, the burden of armor, army and time (zombies slow?) but I don’t agree with it because you can wear light shields too (and for now all shields are same) or you can use 2handers (as other classes that use them and have mobility skills) and still think you should have a bridge-the-gap movement skill

Barb - Thorns

  • I made barb to avoid timing and cooldowns from necro…only to find them again. Miss no CDs or 2-sec CD instead of 30-60 sec CDs.
  • It felt great to stay alive at bloodmaiden and get most of the helltide chests, after the necro experience
  • bit annoying to just wait getting hit at times
  • as a less active playstyle, it makes me move quite alot to get near mobs and then just wait, which brings me to the next point
  • Steel Grasp
    • would enjoy to pull more mobs, be it more in the same arc or omni-directional like Corpse Tendrils (iirc, even if WW had an aspect to pull mobs, you’d waste 1 aspect slot in a space where other more powerful aspects compete for it)
    • would move the +1 charge to baseline and replace the current Warrior’s Steel Grasp with an option to let me hook and pull myself to a target (the Spiderman approach), beside pulling other mobs with me (the tank aspect); I’m a barb, I have strength to do that, how cool that would be!

Rogue - Heartseeker

  • Felt really clunky until I got a good lucky chance and the temperings for chance to freeze
  • Felt useless without Holy bolts during leveling.
  • Compared to Pen Shot…Pen Shot was miles ahead in terms of fun in leveling
  • After I made all gear as per guide (mobalytics Heartseeker by Santum) it felt great.
  • Made rogue only for crit recipe for tempering barb items (why this isn’t available for barb makes no sense to me)
  • I remember feeling rather weak on rogue in S3, so didn’t expect much of it and ended having fun on it for a while
  • Is the only build I took further into Pits (T93 cleared)

Aspects

  • I don’t understand the need to increase evade cooldown for Metamorphosis. If you use this and Juggernaut, you uninstall.
  • would love to have an aspect that lets me reset Steel grasp’s cooldown if I pulled more than 4 targets

Evade

  • Right now, Evade doesn’t even let you properly get out of a risky after-kill effect. The range is too small.
  • The game would be more fun if the baseline for evade for all classes would take you as far as Metamorphosis lets you. I felt a massive difference using Shadow Step and Dash on rogue vs other classes in boss fights. And with the Pit you’re forcing everyone to fight all bosses.

Salvaging

  • Wish I could salvage magic elixirs. Always end up with too many and never using some types. I could also not pick them, yes, but then I’d have to read blue text while playing. Focusing your eyes during combat (fast-moving animations) can lead to eyesight problems.

Environment

  • Sometimes there’s some exploding plants without a source to their explosion (e.g. near palm trees right above Gea Kul) and they get more and more annoying as time passes. Somehow makes me think of goblins that just escape in helltide as a remnant of some action left to happen but not wiped from memory/action pipeline/queue.

Tempering and reactions to it

  • factors:
    • do I know the proper order of crafting?
    • do I have the time to play enough to get more of the same item, if I brick it?
    • am I willing to spend more resources (time or gold or the rule of fight club)?
    • do I know how predictible the system can be and what to do to better that experience? (even if it is just perception)
  • Bricking (not getting all 5 right affixes) - how I imagine it
    • as you start…not a big deal, you don’t have much, many things are makeshift
    • a 2 natural desired affixes item: Well at least I was “smart” enough to not waste gold on enchanting
    • a 2 natural desired affixes and enchanted item (the majority of ppl coming back to D4/starting S4): Mild cursing, ideally a learning experience
    • a 3 natural desired affixes : The echoes of cursing reach the next room.
    • a GA item: My neighbor hears me
    • a 2-GA item: My neighborhood hears me
    • a 3-GA item: hulk smash keyboard, uninstall
  • Bricking - how it happened
    • Until I learned that I should temper before enchanting - Madness
    • Non-GA : I don’t care, My stash fills with 2-3 right affixes fast enough
    • GA:
      • 1 GA idc
      • 2 GA boy, that sucks, I told a friend to cope with it
      • pseudo-3 GA dude I’m never going to get that again (str life and raw dmg instead of vuln dmg, still gutted the soul)
      • 3 GA - haven’t found one with all 3 proper affixes in 3 level 100 characters, for any of the 3 builds, it’s that rare!

Whispers

  • Wish I had a way to know which cache gave better gold (as now I just know orange = more aspects/uniques) - you could make it yellow border maybe, but I know it’s more of a pet peeve than need. I don’t enjoy vendoring 1 by 1 masses of rares to make my gold.

Chat

  • All these gold sellers just fill the chat
  • You could use a Regex/blacklist to automatically filter this spam…you can do it on client side too for less compute costs, but to be secure, better on server
  • I wish I had
    • a /clear command to delete current chat, without relogging, so I can still cycle to whispers
    • chat history logged to a file
      • to check what someone wrote to me and I can’t find again because of various reasons (I didn’t take a screenshot, I said I’ll do it later as I had more pressing matters, I got disconnected, I timed out etc.)
      • to be able to copy some text instead of writing it myself again…
      • if a friend links me a build or meme (I don’t keep bnet launcher open after starting the game, it’s redundant for my needs)

Materials farming

  • Duriel:
    • helltide is fun and Grigoire is fast farmable
    • legions are still a bottleneck because of timers (and seemingly legion-summoned malignant minibosses drop more malignant hearts)
  • Andariel:
    • Zir is fine because you get his mats in fun helltide, is dynamic and you can keep on progressing at scaling levels
    • Beast in Ice:
      • NMD31 is an issue because it is static and becomes obsolete for leveling and glyphs quite fast
      • I would enjoy it much more if it scaled mobs the dungeon tier, but kept the boss level static
      • I could also enjoy it more if it was shorter…it’s ridiculously long-winded with narrow corridors, forcing you to clear more or play a rogue

Strongholds

  • Please add all relevant vendors to Tur Dulra
  • Please add waypoints to all strongholds with NPCs, it feels so weird to find a camp with NPCs and then go “oh wait, I cleared a stronghold, why isn’t there a WP to talk to these people?”
  • Why does Tur Dulra not have the waypoint unlocked right after rekindling? I believe it’s the only one doing that.
  • Improving strongholds

Pits

  • Still hate it and reasons why it’s not good design are here: [Let's organize] So, what is your #1 issue with the game - #78 by Tor-22719
  • I’d rather have some virtual power that applies only to the pit as I progress it, than everything in game
  • I enjoy the strategy it brings as long as it’s manageable, but it becomes rather fast unmanageable
    • I would enjoy simply the strategy without the power (masterworking) attached to it, with just good rewards
    • That is not to say I don’t want to gear for upgrades, just that I feel forced into playing it because then my character isn’t complete
  • The boss mechanics are way too many
  • Is content younger people can enjoy more because you need godlike reflexes for so long at bosses in high tiers
  • You can “achieve” heart attacks by pushing players into this type of content

Thanks for reading!

Chaos. Up to 5m for white and 9 for orange. Always do chaos if available

Is this post related in any way to the movie Leonard Part 6?

The reason I ask is because like your post, I read the intro to the movie and decided to skip it.

Ya, And us old folks are just too slow. So i don’t even bother to take on stuff where i have to dodge in a split second.

That’s up to you.

I dedicate time to make them easy to read and provide feedback as I play the game more, to improve the game.
And now I feel the sudden urge to rewatch Big bang theory. We’re probably not talking about the same Leonard, though.

I never said older people can’t enjoy it, just that not as much.
Less is not 0 enjoyment.

my minionmancer has 200% movement speed. i zoom without a “movement skill”

I was not trying to be sarcastic, It was meant as humor as I’m an older player with a touch of arthritis. I have to keep things with in my means.

It’s not a “split second” though. They quite literally telegraph that they are summoning shadows and they are always the same ones. How can you be that unprepared for something that is shown to you 4 seconds before it even happens?

I agree the shadows are spammed a bit, but they are no anywhere as difficult as what you make them out to be. When you see the summoning circles, you can easily get some distance and dodge and then go back in for more damage. If time is a concern, and you are not able to kill the boss that quickly then you are under geared or something with your build is keeping you from progressing and not putting out enough damage without needing a party to help.

You’re talking about 1 boss mechanic.
The deeper you go into the pit, the more boss mechanics are thrown at you in a crammed arena.
Some are unavoidable, if you’re unlucky with arena and boss type.

When you speed, you don’t care because the boss doesn’t have time to react, it’s fast food.
As you push, it goes like the steak, to medium ok then done, well done, overdone, burnt, cremated.

I cleared 93 on my rogue.
I had the spawned boss mechanic, Lilith’s waves, Lilith’s pull, Elias’s flurry of projectiles.
They gang up on you, it’s not spaced enough (time-wise) between mechanics.
You can’t watch everything at same time with eye movement.
When you have 3-4 on you and time pressure and maybe took a hit before and are scrambling for life or finding a safer spot, good luck dodging that.
And then you need to be more and more tanky.
Most people can’t tank flawlessly for 2-7 min. It’s designed so you take hits. And one-shots make sure you fail. Those don’t belong in the game.

It tries to fit arcade games, Dark Souls, ARPG, hardcore and casual and more into a crammed arena.
In DS you have room to run away. Here you’re in a cellar. In DS you do it once and it’s an achievement. Here you do it arguably 200 times to push and then you need to farm it again and again.
I didn’t complete that game, but I watched ppl die endlessly in it.
It’s not for me because of my reflexes and it’s a fun experience only the first few times. Oh I died, I can laugh now. Then you get beaten, bruised and abused. You won’t laugh for long.

If I go into stutter-stepping and side-stepping like I could some years ago, hitting once and running and repeating this in split seconds, I get a “Hello, this is carpal tunnel, did you summon me?”. I value my health more than pushing for pixels.
If I get enough fights where I know I push myself for better reactions, you get on my nerves. If you get there, you’re prone to see me move to another game and never spend.
And with the feedback from others I can see I am not alone.

And then there’s the heart. It doesn’t go to cardio, like helltide, it goes to tense and untense too often and then it’s “Hello, let’s take a break from life, here’s a heart attack. Did you imagine calling an ambulance before you died?”. And some people don’t know when to stop their physical stress.

You really read way too much into that.

The golem should leap and do a front salvo a la Mortal Kombat and land with a magnificent elbow slam in slow mo while their oiled undead muscles sparkle skinlessly in the sun.

The Pit is pointless after 80. If you can do 80 you are ready for Uber Bosses, The Screen can get a bit spammed, but that’s why I said you just need to understand what is being summoned and when to evade/attack appropriately.

It’s really not that bad. Not nearly as bad as Uber Lillith throwing DPS Checks on top of screen spams, no set patterns, AND having pain stacks. The Pit is a walk in the park compared to Liliths mechanics.

Thx, TIL.

lol that would be awesome
However to keep it in dark grim style, I could see a golem open up in half and engorge the target (like a venus trap).
