It would not be so bad if unlocking strongholds gave you a full bar of whisper credit.
strongholds are great way to get forced mobs your level range if you enter wt4 before the apporiate level. Plus there are certain strongholds that contain whispering chests that you can spam open if you have the keys (again helpful if you enter wt3 or wt4 and dont have any gear ready to use) most of the whispering eye chests have scared or ancentral gears depending on your wt.
Plus maybe give the option of doing them as a Nightmare Stronghold to get a few glyph upgrades.
I only do on places i need to go and completely ignore the remaining since the season 1.
Its boring, poorly implemented and should be account wide and not character wide.

On the contrary. Strongholds are fun. I wish more parts of the game had little mini-story content like this. Multi-tiered battlefields. I think they could make a mode with their traversal options to set up some pretty cool maps. Nothing feels better than sliding down a ramp and decimating the foes waiting beneath.
I don’t even touch the strongholds anymore, it’s not needed for anything in the game really. I just play the rest of the game.
Honestly opening them all took about 1.5 hours.

What if they had artillery, snipers, and heavy machine gunners in nests trying to hold the fort? Maybe every so often a heli rolls in and drops some spec ops troops to deal with you?

Rather than disable them, we need incentives to do them. I’m fine with redoing waypoints if there’s an incentive beyond convenience.
I’m fine with clearing strongholds if they were a challenging thing that required possibly multiple people to do and had a big fat EXP reward.
Pretty much! They’ve been busy trying to fix the base game and now that it is in a fairly better state(albeit tempering still needs work to get it in an even better state) they could revisit the world. I think sadly they said they see the world content as a one and done thing which imo sucks.
Why on Earth would you waste all those dev resources and $$$$$ to one and done your best feature, the overworld?
Imo they could revisit Strongholds to be something cool and unique in the world. Perhaps certain strongholds get reinforced as a demonic beachhead and we have to take it back? And inside is a new boss/multiboss room we have to clear again for unique rewards? But yeah it was cool the way they were designed and one of the better overworld features imo.
Well, i just do it without the checkbox. Simply did not do any of them. Yea i know i can not do some Nightmare Dungeon then but easier to salvage the dungeon key/ craft another than doin the related strongold.
Waypoints and Strongholds are equal to renown grinding in terms of annoyance. None of these tasks are enjoyable anymore. It was once exciting when the game released initially, but it has lost its sparkle.
What I find beyond ridiculous is you suggesting people should play on Eternal instead of validating their complaint on how trash this game design is.
I think strongholds just need updating.
*Every stronghold needs a waypoint, that needs to be unlocked with the current renown, while all waypoints not attached to strongholds no longer have to be “rediscovered”. (This allows you keep renown tag line for both way points and strongholds; while, the players don’t have to waste extra time just horsing around, since they would complete both in tandem.)

Strongholds could possibly
----All strongholds can be legion event spawn points. (More legion events: More scattered prisms. Fixes the scattered prism/gem issue. You’re welcome!
----SH could possibly function like “degrading overtime capture zone”. So you would unlock (for each player) the SH and it would get a countdown timer, lets say 1 hour; before you would have to recapture it. During that hour the denizens/vendor/npcs would offer additional resources/items/service to the player as reward for “Reclaiming” their home.
A whole different spin
----Strongholds could have PVP value? A clan capture system for bonus to those members in a clan. (This is snowballing some pvp/clan viabilty stuff).
Note: Inevitably someone is going to say, “what about the druid quest!” Its phased so shouldn’t be an issue for the initial druid quest.

Man, theres some lazy gamers these days. Actually, I wouldnt even consider them gamers. Everytime you @#$@# mention teleporters, I remember riding horses in DAOC for 20 minutes just to get somewhere and you cant handle 30s on horse to a NM lol.
I actually enjoy the stronghold events. I wish they were repeatable.
