Reasons to play an Eternal Realm Character?

“Because we know that the beginning of a season is sort of a fresh starting point, we wanted to launch the expansion at the same time as the beginning of a season,” Fergusson said. “That’s why we launched at the beginning of season 6, so you could roll a Spiritborn as your new thing. So it can feel like a little bit like this expansion is just a single moment in time, and I just wanted to highlight that that’s not the case. We’re going to continue to develop features that will be, essentially, exclusive to Vessel of Hatred owners.”

Fergusson mentioned that Blizzard thinks of Diablo 4 as being divided into “chapters,” which are chunks of seasons in between major expansion releases. Season 1 to Vessel of Hatred was “chapter one” of Diablo 4, he said, and “season 7 to the future” is chapter two — the “future” presumably being the game’s second expansion.

“As we continue chapter two, as a Vessel of Hatred owner, you’ll get access to other stuff in chapter two as part of your ownership,” Fergusson said. “So we’re going to continue to have [Vessel of Hatred] be valuable beyond season 6 as well.”

Iggi was who I was mentioning before, actually. When I referred to my forum buddy. They were the one that told me about the lack of Seasonal quests tied to factions being due to the D4 staff being, well…understaffed

i wouldnt doubt that they are understaffed either. I mean Blizzard is all for profit. So i really wouldnt expect giant seasonal teams lol.

Doesnt matter too much to me tho as long as they hopefully deliver seasonal content again.

We are 100% in agreement, in all honesty. So yeah…I would consider this post/thread resolved! I will likely switch to Eternal, where the grass is greener, the air is sweeter, and apparently…the people are nicer

My Seasonal buddy might disagree that I should go to Eternal tbh–we’ve been online friends for a while, but he doesn’t see the point in Eternal. Good to know there’s a good reason to go back.

not like it has to be an eternal decision :stuck_out_tongue: Check eternal out and see how you like it =P If a seasonal theme catches your interest, just go back to seasonal =P

Oh, so punny!!!

Your logic is very sound, and no, that isn’t sarcasm, lol. Just in case your inner Sheldon Cooper wanted to know :upside_down_face:

damn. It took over 11,5k posts for someone on the forums to say that hahaha <3

Others have already chimed in, so I’ll just focus on this part.

You should be able to link Blizzard website only, but you may need a specific trust level first. Which comes from posting, receiving/giving likes, and reading posts, lots of reading.

At trust level 3 you can link just about anything you want. Obviously within reason of course. I typically link stuff from Imgur myself, Avalon links a lot of third party websites with information about D4, interviews and other stuff, along with videos.

Now you can get around this limitation by using the ‘Preformatted’ text option you see in the options when creating a post/replying. So just an example:

www.google.com

People won’t be able to click the link, but they can highlight it and copy+paste at least.

Also to add, your ability to link stuff once you’ve achieved the appropriate trust level will be taken away if you get a forum vacation. Having had two myself, I want to say it took 6 months before I got that privilege back.

oh god yea that took ages for me as well. they really arent up for jokes when it comes to that ^^

Omg! I’m really sorry that happened to you. Does that mean the majority of D4 forum users are over-opinionated and extremely judgmental??? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

And based on the personal attacks I’ve been getting lately for not sharing people’s opinions on things–being called anything from a conformist to someone who praises a crappy game. And the logic they tend to use is not very, well…logical. Mostly smothered by their own opinions, and think no-one else is allowed to think otherwise. And anyone who does is clearly public enemy no. 1 :expressionless:

Do y’all realize you can play seasonal AND eternal? It’s not one or the other.

I play eternal after I’ve had my fill of the seasonal mechanics. Or in the case of the past few seasons, grow tired of the seasonal grind.

Eternal is a great place to try out new builds since you have a plethora of resources readily available.

And if you’ve deleted all your eternal characters, there’s a new character bonus in today’s patch that allows you to instantly boost to level 50 with free gear. Two if you own VoH.

youll get your fun out of it with the right mindset =P

Diablo forums always have been… special haha
But, on the bright side, it also makes it easy to get to know cool people. My friend list is pretty filled with nice forum dudes. We of course disagree every now and then, but we can respect out point of views

I use my Eternal character to test builds since I have plenty of materials and gold there. I’m hoping the Campfire Chat addresses what will happen to our seasonal Paragon transfer to Eternal at the end of the season. If the Paragon experience merges with my Eternal character as I suspect, I’ll likely play my Eternal character for the rest of the season with a different build. Without an armory system, I’d rather have two characters at Paragon 282 than push one all the way to 300. That’s just my preference.

Oh you’ll be called all sorts of names on here with the most hilarious logic behind it, for any number of reasons. I’m usually attacked for ‘protecting’ or ‘defending’ Blizzard when all I’ve done is say the rules on the forum, point out how a mechanic works in game, or offer my own opinion on how I think they might change the game based off what they’ve said in campfires or interviews.

Oh but it gets better. As soon as you get a higher post count, they’ll attack that too, regardless of what your post actually says, they just assume you’re on the payroll.

This was honestly just discussed like not 5 mins before you posted. But yeah, I think we all get that. But thanks for the info nonetheless! And I did mention in my 1st post about those bonuses for the Eternal Realm. And yes, it’s one free character boost/bonus if you don’t own VoH, but 2 if you do. Still, thanks for sharing

But, I digress. To my main point: Is there really any reason to actually play/keep an Eternal Realm character?

Time.

The largest draw of an eternal character is that it has permanence which tends to be more aligned with a person’s perception of their time relative to the games they are playing. Seasonal play is for the player that wants to play for a week or two and move on, which is a good model, but eternal play is for people who either enjoy playing very little at a time or who enjoy playing things that do not reset over time.

Keep in mind that 99.9% of gaming is “eternal” and seasonal gaming is really tied down to very few games with most of them having “eternal” overlaps, i.e. you earn a collectable during the season and keep it forever into eternity for all seasons in the future.

But I do wish there were a happy medium where you could select something at the start, a little checkbox, that says “Delete this character when the season ends.”

Like, yes please.

No problem! Actually did a tips/lessons learned thread for people going back to eternal post season 6. Called the eternal option. Will see if I can link.

I am usually playing for more than a week or more…but I digress. I’m done with the battle pass tiers already, though I’m not clear on how I did it so quickly  Not done with the Seasonal Journey yet, either…just on Chapter 2/4 so far.

A question though…if I do go to Eternal…will I still have access to my VoH Campaign stuff? Currently on the Epilogue atm. I made a forum post questioning why all the fluff behind getting to the actual meat of the Epilogue–let me see if I can link it…

Edit: I was very frustrated at the point that I posted this in the forums…it just doesn’t seem necessary to me to force the player to do all that extra stuff
