Reasons to play an Eternal Realm Character?

Exactly why you shouldn’t have bothered posting on it again, and a lot of the topics are bait for seasonal people to come in and try and insult eternal players. But I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

“Eternal” was the only way to play D1, the default way to play D2 for 3 years, and the default way to play D3 for awhile as well - I think, memory fades on that one. It’s integral to the DNA of the series.

It’s for people who want to play one or more characters long term - either because they don’t want to constantly reset or can’t devote enough time in a season to get what they want out of it. It also can give more motivation to actually min/maxing a character as time is not a constraint. Some people play both, want to do the seasonal for what it adds but maintain eternal characters for longer term development.

It’s also very easy to build up a surplus of mats.

There’s the short answer. The wrench in it is that Blizzard has disrupted eternal itemization so much and so frequently that that, if anything, is what makes it feel useless.

I don’t see the point in saying I shouldn’t make a post discussing the same thing when the others are at least a year old. I did mention that the forum rules state that if you bump an old thread, they reserve the right to give you (potentially) a ban from the forums, or some such.

Also…I really don’t care if I get insulted by Seasonal people tbh. Most of the ones that do are no-life Karens with nothing better to do than use their warped non-logic logic to attack people that have differing views. Let them come.

Regardless, thank you for trying to keep me from being insulted, nonetheless. I do appreciate that. Ultimately though, it’s up to me. To quote Ormus:

“Ormus is not a child to be cupped in your hands” or something similar to that. Not really sure I got that quote right, tbh :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

And lastly, thank you for the benefit of the doubt, such as it is.

I play Eterna, I have played ETERNAL since day one or season 1.

I could ask the same, any reason to play seasonal??? (its a joke).

I have my reasons not to play Seasoned. it is not to choose one mod or the other.

The main reason. I don`t want any body to tell me when I have to create a new character, and i like to MAX out my chars.

I love it when they say: “you are always on the forum you do not play the game.”

thats an all time classic

I will admit that Seasonal currently is not in a very great place, but to say it’s a joke is really a matter of perspective/opinion. Idk, I guess some people actually enjoy grouping up to do Realmwalkers. Don’t know if the Seething Realms portals require a party or not, tbh…

I guess Seasonal is now :poultry_leg: (Cooked, for those who don’t know why I’m using the emote). I’d like some Cajun spice on my D4, plz!

Your spelling error aside, I would argue there’s a right for people to choose one over the other. Some like Seasonal, and some really don’t like it tbh. Yeah, you do have your own reasons, but it’s likely not right to say that you shouldn’t choose one over the other. I do get your last point.

This holds true for many, yet no-one is really telling you when to make a new character–you might have to each new Season, but I don’t see anyone holding a gun to your head saying you must.

Maxing out characters is also pure preference. Some people really don’t care much for messing with that, in all honesty. Me being one of them, yet I won’t bash or disparage anyone for liking that kind of thing.

A question though…if I do go to Eternal…will I still have access to my VoH Campaign stuff? Currently on the Epilogue atm. I made a forum post questioning why all the fluff behind getting to the actual meat of the Epilogue–let me see if I can link it…

The short answer is yes. If you complete the campaign on one character any new character has the ability to skip it and new character creation has no impact on what you can or cannot skip given completion.

There is no purpose to eternal realm other than to be a trophy room of past seasonal characters.

It would be cool if each season there were a few mythic uniques and aspects only available for that season that you could bring back to the eternal realm, and then you could over time build an awesome eternal realm character that combined highlights of past seasons, which could only be done in eternal realm.

Instead with 1 or 2 seasons all gear is “redone” and all your eternal realm gear is “legacy” and useless.

It depends, I have had a terrible time finding Mythics and haven’t had one drop since season three. The only way to get a Harlequin Crest was to make it at the end season 3 with Resplendent Sparks gotten from seasonal quest and salvaging two Mythic rings I didn’t want. I played season four and five and found nothing. So this season I started and after a couple of weeks decided what the heck and went back to the eternal realm so I could use it. Even though it was somewhat crippled by being set back to item level 540 I had already masterworked it so it had a big boost to cooldown reduction. So it depends on what stuff you have in your stash. I will probably go back to the seasonal realm before the end but so far it is fun. I want to add that not all Mythics make the transition to legacy so well. I have an Andariel’s Visage that has been marked as unusable by any class.

For some, character persistence is a thing. I’m highly considering it after this season. It depends on what season seven bring to the table.

For me, I now play a seasonal character, finish the pass and the make alts on Eternal realm. Until they have a season again with actual mechanics, etc. I will continue doing alts on Eternal. My reasons why:

-My alts of different class will already have a lot of codex collected, etc which lets me focus more efficiently on different builds.

-Tempering mats, etc. On Eternal: I already have a good chunk of the mats.

-Looks like when they allow totally busted builds to last the whole season, you can still see lots of different class/builds on Eternal. Seems to be the case this season anyway.

-I’m not in the crowd that continually wants faster progress and more xp so the pace of eternal suits me better in some ways @ fewer boosts there.

To be fair, I’m not sure if I will continue much with alts though. Shared paragon progression makes alts feel not very good to me.

I make my own spec from scratch without resources, and the cadence at which im able to plan, test, farm ect to push endgame is too slow in my opinion for seasonal play. Testing alone is incredibly cumbersome for a solo player, especially when running comparison/compatability test. I also like to tweak in stats to reach thresholds which requires mw critting the correct affixes, ect.

Also F lvling, alts, and seasonal gimmicks; theres enough gimmick in base game. I play 1 sorc because im boring. Prefer to make 1 spec and perfect as much as possible, at least as much as blizzards itemization overhauls and my terribad rng allows for.

Day 1 ETERNAL ONLY PLAYER…

I do it for:

  1. As another said, I “hate” being told WHEN to make another character…which I rarely do, I prefer bow users in EVERY game…

  2. It took me exactly 400 hours to beat the story to begin with…And still no Lillith done, as everybody quit the game before I’d even hit the 200hr mark…

  3. I hate rushing in games, and season’s BS makes you rush if you want the most of it…I play slow n steady…

  4. I can come and go as I please, and know I’ve MISSED NOTHING in game because I went and played “new” game/yada yada for a month…I pick back up right where I left off…

  5. No disrespect to PC users, but most hack/mod/cheat their way through games, so I have cross play turned off…Don’t need that/those “toxics/hacks/cheaters” in my game ruining my slow n steady life style…PC treat gaming as a J-O-B instead of a hobby…Don’t truck w/ that…

Lastly, this game has to much busted/wrong w/ it to play anything other than ETERNAL…Don’t believe me, just read the forums…LOL!

I don’t have any. Why would they give me a boost for a mode I don’t play? I don’t know anyone who plays it.

im playing both and since there is like 5% difference between season and eternal realm, eternal simply makes more sense for long term players.
Dont believe all the BS seasonal only superfans say abaout eternal realm, they have zero clue…

The original idea was an option to play for those who don’t have the time to grind everything within 90 days and prefer to take their time to min/max, but Blizzard keeps finding excuses to do a full reset on Eternal defeating the entire point of it.

Comments like yours are the useless garbage that always clutters these threads. Just because you don’t play the mode doesn’t mean it’s useless. I could just as easily say seasonal is useless because why would you want to constantly play through the same part of the game over and over just to get to the endgame? Boring as heck. Waste of time.

This however is sadly true. This game lacks any consistent vision and is just a mess anyway.

Every Season is about getting to the “End Game” asap.

My 7 Eternal characters, most of which were leveled during seasons, are already at the end game. (Well, they would be if Blizzard had not screwed over all Eternal realm characters and players when they released VoH.)

I can experiment with builds freely, do all the content and enjoy the builds that I have worked long hours to create every time I log into the game without having to go through that slog of leveling every 3 months.

I played Eternal in Diablo before there was such a thing as ladders or Seasons. It feels right to me.

I use eternal as a trophy room. But all my trophies break multiple times a year, so it is a bad trophy room. No other reason to touch eternal. Would rather start from level 1 every season, instead of having my gear taken away for no reason.

i don’t play seasons because the idea of reveling like a moron each time and regearing and regrinding the same stuff you already earned over and over and over is as idiotic as releveling the same class again in an MMO

and htat’s what this game’s turned into: the MMO of MMOs

go chase that bit of dopamine each time your relevel a new character to feel that feeling of “freshness” again cause the base game can’t actually satisfy you with its core gameplay loop

utterly ironic that replaying the same content in Diablo 1 or 2 was fun as hell but “modern” games can’t recreate that feeling with the gameplay itself, have to use cheap psychological tactics like reward loops

bunch of lab mice is all you are
