Reasons to play an Eternal Realm Character?

I know these types of discussions are literally everywhere in the forums…however, the forum rules state that bumping a thread could potentially lead to a forum ban or at least disciplinary action of some kind. Honestly not 100% sure that bumping isn’t the same as Necroing a very old post.

But, I digress. To my main point: Is there really any reason to actually play/keep an Eternal Realm character??? I know they are going to or have released already–some kind of bonus to Eternal characters event. I’m aware of the details, having read it, but likely won’t or can’t add a link into my post.

In my opinion, as of right now, anyway–there isn’t much, if any incentive to keep Eternal chars on your roster. They just kind of clog up room for new Seasonal ones–if you are into doing Seasons anyway. Also, not sure if Eternal characters hit some kind of brick wall earlier than a Seasonal one would.

To state, though–this is just my opinion. Maybe not everyone agrees with me, but yeah. So, looking for someone to convince me that Eternal characters are worth it at this point–boost event or no boost event.

Sorry I cannot help I recently deleted all but one of my eternal characters. I have not played non-season in over 10 years.

Build testing? I guess, I dunno. I have no use for eternal characters but I can see that being a lil bit useful at least. Esp since eternal will most likely have all aspects maxed, fully leveled characters, and boat loads of mats. Easy to swap aspects and redo skills/paragons.

That is, if blizz doesnt make all gear legacy after the season is done lmao

Eternal players usually say they do it so all their hard work doesn’t go to waste. Or for some they just don’t have time to max out a character in a single season. I’m sure there are more reasons but if either of those two apply to you then off you go.

But for me, I’m done with this season. I hit my goals. I’ll probably check out the buffs to barb and then be done again until season 7. If I had to continue playing my current character forever I’d never log back in again. The fun is in leveling and building a character from scratch not perpetual tweaking.

That’s fine, friend! Thanks for stopping in  Yeah, I am a Seasonal player myself–non HC, though.

I honestly thought they did this after every single season. Could be wrong, very wrong, or even extremely wrong. Also…as an addendum–not really asking for justifications to start an Eternal character–more or less wanting to know the why of people playing them when there are Seasons. But anyway–looks like I have my answer! :upside_down_face:

nope, it just happened due to rather big reworks in s4 (general item rework), 5 (unique item rework), and s6 (stat squish). normally items stay as they are.

personally i think s4 and s5 could have been done together, but yea, it is what it is :stuck_out_tongue:

And a power lv raise in S1 from Item lv 800 to 900. Or was it 825? They definatly pushed the item power in the first few months, i think withg the stzart of S1

yes they increased the item power level, that didnt really make the gear legacy tho. Your items were still as useable as before. Thats really just the power creep category.

i wouldnt bet but i think it was s2

but yea, to answer OP, basically eternal is supposed to be the place for the super casual bobs with 4 jobs and 16 kids. But yea, changes can, and will happen, even on eternal.

I rush the season journey just to go back to Eternal Realm. There’s very little difference between the two. On Eternal I have everything. No need to refarm all those dumb mats, gold, junk, glyphs. I can keep kill monsters once I log in.

The good:

  • Build testing
  • No real material problems (provided you farmed a decent chunk in previous seasons)
  • The servers are less “busy”/“populated”/“dense” (which oddly feels nice and more like what a Diablo game should feel like)
  • People aren’t really bothered with min/maxing trades and just help each other out sometimes by boosting you for free or trade/gift items for nothing

The bad:

  • Blizzard has destroyed our gear 3 seasons in a row. Hopefully it won’t be a 4th time on Thursday.

It was Season 3 we had 925 gear. Season 2 still has 825.

This to me sounds a lot better than the Seasonal environment. Also, the helping each other/trading and gifting items reminds me of how people were in D2 and D2R

Yeah, I switched to eternal real after I got bored of S6. I was really surprised at how much more friendly the players are.

then eternal for sure might be a good environment for you. Just dont cling to items as in “they wont ever change”. Incase another big rework happens, eternal will for sure be affected.

Tho, if i had to guess, id say we are done for now with giant item reworks. Eventually theyll raise item lvl again, but yea, thats just the classical power creep.

It’s been a while but this season, I have been spending nearly as much time playing Eternal than Seasonal. Replacing the Legacy gear of my S5 build was easy and fast, mostly Mythics and Uniques. My build is maxed according to my standards and I am having fun doing any endgame activity with it.

Gearing my 2 seasonal builds is painfully slow. Both are still weak and I just keep playing for hours without getting any decent item to improve them. So, I need to switch to Eternal for some fun from time to time, use the Party Finder and do activities with other players.

I will probably try to re-gear 1 or 2 other Eternal builds before the end of the season, probably starting with my Twisting Blades Rogue from S2.

As of the current state of Seasonal…there are really only two reasons I come back to make a Seasonal character:

  • Battle Pass rewards
  • Seasonal gimmicks/events

Though lately…the Seasonal content has been kind of lacking in terms of side quests attached to the Seasonal content. Not sure why this is, but a forum buddy of mine mentioned something about the seasonal event staff having a shortage of people/having to redirect their focus elsewhere?

I feel bad for the part of the D4 team that works on the Seasonal content as a result…imo there should be side quests related to faction progression this Season too, but can also understand if they are short-handed.

oh i agree, the seasonal content is rather lackluster since 3 seasons. They did say they return to seasonal themes. So i assume its really just due to the workload the whole item rework brought.

Seasonal content for VoH wasnt really all that needed i guess.

in 2 days there is another Campfire, and we will know for sure how s7 will look like. I admit, i do expect a return to serious seaonal contents.

Don’t forget about the release of the VoH expansion, as well as SB, either.

I really need to pay more attention, lol! I had no idea there was another Campfire Chat coming in two days.
