It was added in 2009, and was only added so they could test out D3 when it was under development.
Not sure what youāre trying to do here, but know this:
There will always be a respec ability in D2 or D2R.
Noone in their right mind would take ārespecā out of this game!
Honesty, Iām not even expecting anything really. Iāll still state my opinion, because you never know what might transpire. That process could affect D4 or even D5 through the butterfly effect. You would never impact the future by staying silent. By thinking and talking about game mechanics, it gets people brainstormingā¦
People spend way too much time suggesting to others to remain quiet. Itās a good thing over here we have freedom of speech, free from places like North Korea where you canāt even have your own opinion.
Ok Ok so if you could only get one respec per char maybe that would make everything fair for everyone.
Or we can just leave it the way it is, the way it has been for many years.
I like having the three respecs. No need to revert, in my opinion. Itās ridiculously hard to make a pure vita sorc at the beginning of a ladder, since there is no gear available. Best to be able to invest some points in STR and DEX and respec to your final build once you have the gear.
Iām in agreement that respecs should be limited, however. Unlimited seems beyond the spirit of the game to me.
āA kind smile to another human that appears down or upset can help create great change in our world.ā
This is real and a mirror of the so called science fiction butterfly effect, put into real terms.
Respec are fines as they are currently. No need to alter them.
What we currently have makes it just inconvenient enough without restarting a new character.
This is not correct. How respecs were handled in D2 & D2:Lod was one of the most common complaints in the game. After many years, the whole ānoveltyā of relevel as a form of respec was ostracized by many.
I will even go a step further. I suspect that D3 has free respecs due to feedback from veteran D2 players who despised that element of D2. I suspect that D3 has a shared stash because of the hatred for muling in D2. The list goes on and onā¦
One could argue that a lack of respecs is directly linked to the games replayability over the years. Ive made and leveled DOZENS AND DOZENS of characters over the years to above level 85. If all I had to do was level 7 classes to a high level then im done, how long before theres no more normal games with people leveling new characters?
replaying from the beginning is part of the fun of the gameā¦ respecs diminish that greatly after a while of the game being out
For real. I hate it when people who have nothing to do with the development of a game feel like they can decide what is ātrue to the gameā or not.
I would say the original team decided that. But when they left, who changed things?
seems majority of change requester even want the oposite !
i have an idea: stop these discussions and start accepting the reMASTER !
3 respecs - is fine for me, but infinite respecs should be eradicated
You do know that Blizzard has reiterated in multiple interviews that they are open to more D2R changes in the players want them. Moreover, they have explicitly stated that the designers have a list of items that they would love to do if the players agreed. You can search these quotes on this forum or use google.
Consistent with this idea, Blizzard themselves have sent out two surveys to it potential D2R customers seeking feedback on 19 and 7 changes, respectively. The most recent survey went out last week. These surveys (or at least screenshots of them) are also linked on this forum and are searchable using google.
Since Blizzard, themselves, asked for player feedback on additional D2R changes, why do you honestly think that players should not discuss things and give player feedback?
But still i believe they will rely to their words and stick to the core of the game. And actually that would be the smartest thing to do. The Respec change request is a perfect example for why they should: Some people want no respec, some people want 3 respec, some people want even more and unlimited respec and some people just want it to stay what it is. so the only way Blizzard does not have to justify themselves for their decission is to just stick to the original and to their own words and have the game untouched with just REAL QoL features, nothing to make game easier and nothing to make it unnecessarily harder
Their words are both an authentic experience and potentially more changes. These are not necessarily mutually exclusive but suggests more optional changes might be on the horizon.
Also, in both surveys they have asked about a dedicated charm inventory. In the latest survey, it is listed as a QoL feature. As you know, QoL features are typically not considered core gameplay. Given this, Blizzard may be defining āauthenticā differently than what some think.
Itās pretty funny, because I really get the feeling that the devs intend to keep balance changes to an absolute minimum, based on everything written in interviews, and the videos Iāve seen of them directly.
They also seem to be itching to put their own spin on the game, and exclaimed with an almost giddy grin when speaking about how there were āthings theyād like to doā with the game.
I honestly think it likely there will be two realms. I just canāt see them doing nothing with d2r for years, and I just canāt see them changing 1.14 balance wise without leaving it playable.
In the Chris Lena quote as shown below, he actually used the word āloveā instead of like and there is a ālist of thingsā from the designers (implying several to many).
āI know our designers have a list of things they would love to do. So weāll see how that goes going forward.ā

Yes he seemed very genuine in their intentions to change the game, and itās only my opinion but I definitely got the feeling they were speaking about some major changes, not minor ones.
This, paired with how cautious theyāve been while designing, even in regards to if auto gold was too much of a change, suggests to me there will eventually be a separate realm.
The only alternatives alienate a large portion of the players base, and risk lower sales for their newer titles.
