I know a lot of older players enjoyed the patched in system for respeccing in the current version of D2, but I also know a whole LOT of us who equally hated it.
Limiting the players ability to respec is not a core game mechanic, and does not need to be preserved.
I recently started playing D2 again with the plugy mod, which allows respeccing on the fly - and it has only made the game better and more enjoyable for me. Now I’m free to play around with my spec until I find a spec that I’m comfortable with. That, plus auto pickup of gold, has opened the game back up for me in ways I never thought possible.
I have been playing D2 since it was first released. I remember upgrading my system just so I could play it on release. D2 was my go-to game for a LONG time. I lived with the respec issue back then, but I didn’t like it. To be honest, I used a character editor just to reset my talents more often than I’d care to admit. If I’m to journey back into sanctuary again for another go, I can’t imagine doing it without some QoL issues being fixed, like respeccing.
Surely there must be a way to address this issue without upsetting the few die-hard players who enjoyed the old system?
