ZEK'VIR ? ? Tips

Given as shadow you can meet that damage requirement with nothing but instants and cast while moving spells at your ilvl, you’ll be fine. The DPS check isn’t even that meaningful at 580 ilvl, let alone 615.

Relatable. I had to brace myself mentally to keep from doom spiraling on Zekvir’s normal mode. I felt so dumb because I knew multiple clothies who had done it, and here I was with a ret paladin and I couldn’t.

It took me about 100 tries to clear normal, haha. Then 80 to get ??, which I just did this morning.

No, no. I agree.
Its just a tad rough when you are around your 4th or 5th add and you dont have resources anymore.
Plus, somertimes Zekvir do a combo of AoEs that require you to keep moving for a good 5 seconds+, and as a caster? That screws your chance to kill the Coccoon super hard.

Congratulations on clearing it!

I’m getting this done naked by the end of today. 5% best try.

If it were any other poster on the forums I’d say “impossible” but… since it’s you, yeah I believe it.

Demonic Circle: Teleport cleanses the DoT even without the Diabolist talent that makes it always behave as if you cast Soulburn. Don’t rely on Brann’s dispel, they programmed him with the consistency of a deep Summer McDonald’s dumpster slurry, possibly intentionally.

Stagger Brann’s potions throughout the fight to get as much uptime on them as you can. Rotate defensives as needed if it ever falls off for a while, maybe pick up Ichor of Devils over Frequent Donor so you’re not dropping as much health for Dark Pact.

You can take Grimoire of Sacrifice over Summoner’s Embrace for an extra 5% stamina from Soul Link. You also don’t need to worry about your pet getting CC’d during the fight either.

If a spider hatches you can still CC and kill it. Even if it CCs you there’s a chance you’ll survive. Don’t take your hands off the keyboard until you’re dead.

As always, above all, mechanics > DPS. Except on the spiders, because their mechanic is DPS.

11 times? Most people are saying they had to do it a whole lot more than that. Get lucky on the RNG of which ability he does and just getting 1 shot by them accidently.

For your pets, you dont want them to tank. A dps or some other ability while you tank it (at least thats what hunters are having to do). Brann as a healer.

Couple things must be done to complete.

  1. All of his heals must be interrupted.

  2. The add needs to be burnt down everytime before it gets a cast off which cant be kicked because of 1.

  3. You need some way of dealing with his nasty dot. Rarely you can safely kick it and still have time before 1 but its risky

  4. All other mechanics must be dodged.

I tried out dps and healer brann, ww and brewmaster, a bunch of builds for myself and brann before finding a combo i liked. The biggest thing is not making mistakes. For most class and specs there is very little room for errors so practice is important.

Stay as close as you can to Zekvir, the cone effects are smaller and easier to dodge, if you find yourself at the edge of his range during a frontal, good luck dodging it without wasting movement abilities.

Once you can reliably kill his eggs the rest will fall into place.

good luck even with abilities sometimes, I’ve had some awful positioning that divine steed wasn’t quite enough to get me out of. Had to make sure to keep fighting him in the center and delay rushing to the egg based on his abilities off CD.

Best try was 11% in the hour and a half I tried today. I’m really sick rn though so my brain isn’t firing on all cylinders.

After about 15-16 minutes of combat I just ran out of brain each time and did something dumb. Fight would be about 18 minutes.

Killed it on my Frost Deathbringer DK at 614 ilvl. Enchanted all of my gear with speed & consumed up. Used a build to have a burst window every 30s & used Queens Mandate (very powerful trinket to execute eggs). Healer Brann @ lvl 52 w/Shielding curio and reduce size (20%speed) curio.
Lots of attempts, took until 610 ilvl to get into p2, and then eventually I was consistently getting to p2 and staying longer in it. Got several sub 20% pulls and a 4% pull before getting the kill. Fun fight.

So i did this on my BM Hunter awhile back. After the first 20 attempts i nearly gave up, telling myself I’m to old, slow reflexes, bad eyesight and not enough concentration for this type of content anymore  But i got there in the end and these were the things that helped.

Set Zekvir as focus and use this macro for your interrupt, its clean with no target change if your on egg:

#showtooltip
/cast [@focus] counter shot

Just sub in the name of your classes interrupt spell.

Use this macro for all your main damage abilities. It’ll basically make you auto target egg and Zekvir as needed, takes out one thing to think about.

/cleartarget
/targetexact Egg Cocoon
/targetexact [noexists] Zekvir
/cast [harm,nodead] (Spell name)

Egg is key to this fight and you need to be able to comfortably take it out. If you cant kill it at around 75% of its spawn time most of the time gear up more first. I was ilvl 610 so around that should be good, not 100% on Lock though.

As a hunter i had trouble with him smashing my pet, you may too. I solved this by starting with pet dismissed then summoned him on Zekvirs first spider egg cast. They never got aggro or died again. Also turn taunts off.

Interrupt heal!
Cleanse snare!

Phase 2 is actually easier as you get more chill time but the new rhythm will still take some getting used too just stick with it.

Good luck! It took me around 150 attempts total but like i said, I’m old.

On my 610 Shaman I can’t get around surviving his basic attacks, it isn’t mechanics that are the issue it is his literal unavoidable damage. Healer bran isn’t enough for it.

I’m perplexed by it.

The healer potions have a HoT component that stacks + refreshes duration to a maximum of 4. Stagger them out for maximum HoT. And make sure you’re doing whatever you can (if possible as shaman) to immune out or INSTANTLY clear his DoT.

His autoattacks scale based on your armor type so they should be survivable as long as you’re not the subject of unlucky crits.

Sometimes you simply cannot live. Shaman can’t immune, we can only clear it once the spittle lands and then we have to shift to wolf to clear(20s cd). Taking 1 tick is 1m damage and he can melee crit for 4 mill resulting in instant death for most semi-geared players. Was definitely a “what?!” the first time it happened to me.

My issue on ele was ST on cacoons I just didn’t have enough damage to reliably pop them without major 2-10m cooldowns. This is only going to get worse on tuesday so I guess I have to try this weekend or never clear it.

Did they hotfix zekvir to his nerfed state? The last I saw he was reverted to his pre-nerf state with 11.0.5 making it substantially harder.

First I’ve heard of this. Wouldn’t be impossible given how bad the merge was on this branch.

yeah this is the thread that I saw about it:

Also possible the poster was mistaken since there aren’t a lot of reports about it. Could also be that most of the people interested in doing ?? have done it already or are concentrating on the new anniversary stuff.

Claw smash was completely unchanged in the nerfs. The changes were to fear cast time, cocoon hp, boss hp, and cocoon spawn animation time.

I can go check now if you want.
