Yeah idk. Are people just like instantly darting off to melee the egg the second it spawns regardless of where the boss is, then getting surprised when he fires off a 40 yard wide cone in their direction?
Egg spawns, take the time to shuffle the boss over and point him away from the egg, once he does the cone THEN go melee hit it. Or if he recently did a cone drag the boss over and swap, dpsing from the side so when he cones you you can run through the egg out of the aoe and keep hitting it from the other side.
Iām thinking this is whatās going on. Even though in every ātipā concerning the cones, baiting the frontals has been mentioned. Iām not sure why this is some voodoo that they refuse to listen to.
Or this. Iād run off in the general direction of the egg (not bee line for it) so when the cone came, iād just strafe out of it and still be closer to the egg without losing any uptime.
Ultimately things like being actively mindful of positioning, baiting boss mechanics, and allocating / saving cooldowns are skills the majority of players have never had to learn or use.
Which is why, despite the tuning of the fight now feeling a bit iffy, Iām extremely happy blizzard made an encounter that incorporated those skills.
Honestly? Nahā¦ It took me six weeks. I tried week 1, week 2, week 4 then got it 5th go week 6 (ilevel difference between weeks 1-6 was 614 to 620).
Iām a slow learner, with a very average IQ of 115āish. I suck at fluid intelligence, which means I am NOT mentally quick on my feet. But I am high scoring at crystallized intelligence and pattern recognition. (Think a brooding deliberator.
Iām also a COMT TT genetic carrier (Worry vs Warrior), which means when I get under pressure, my cortisol sky rockets like anyone elses would, but it takes me longer to return to baseline. This causes mental fuzz and extreme tunnel vision (singular focus at the expense of situational awareness, or speed accuracy trade off).
People like Bahjeera for example would be COMT AA (warrior vs worry). Meaning you can keep throwing intense cognitive stressors at them and they just eat it and keep thinking on their feet with full awareness of the main task at hand as well as whatās going on around them.
I literally felt your pain. I got the $h!ts, cursed at the bug lord, called it names like a frustrated 8 year old would. But I remembered it just takes me longer.
And when it clicked, it clicked. I literally nearly got it first try on week 6. But I got clipped. That isnāt bad luck, that is me once again scolding my ADHD brain to āWake up c***!ā. I zoned out and it punished me for it. Thatās all this is.
It is just a dance. Once youāve done it enough times itās rhythm and sequences. 4 of those 5 final attempts were all <20% but I kept zoning out with how long the fight draws on for.
I am literally the perfect victim for Zekāvir on a neuro-psychological level. So if I can do it, anyone can.
I think sometimes people forget the āpanicā factor. Iām not quite the same, in that I am good under pressure IRL. However, toss me in a video game and put timers on things and throw out that egg that will kill me if I donāt kill it in timeā¦.And I will absolutely panic and beeline to it and get tagged by the cone.
I literally had to talk to myself the whole fight to keep myself on track. Every time Iād make a mistake and curse and my dog jumps up like āIāll get himā.
When I finally found my rhythm and just focused on each step, I didnāt even realize how far I had gotten until he was 10% or so and then I panicked again and my hands started shaking. Lol. I was a wreck and so relieved.
Some of the melee class can pretty much manipulate that by using taunt, so even if Zek comes to you and cone youāll have more than enough time to react. Thatās what I did time from time on Warrior so it helped with cleaving the egg and him down.
Got my ?? Zekvir kill yesterday on the 12th of December. Yay!!! Though it took me about 154 tries and I really do not like āchallenging contentā but I wanted the shadowy blimp soā¦ here we are. I admit it was very hard for me, Iām not good at games. I mostly died to claw smash even though I know to stay close so you can dodge it, sometimes easier said than done. The people who did it in like 6-10 pulls wow. I kept dying to dumb crap and then RNG wasnāt favored. Also as a lock it was a bit of an extra challenge making sure you didnāt TP yourself into a mechanic when you had to dispel yourself. I had to remember to wait for certain abilities before just teleporting myself to death which I did quite a bit lol. The first 30-40 attempts were me stupidly trying to do this fight as Affliction. Couldnāt down the eggs in time with that build. I then tried Destruction/Diabolist and did much better, but was still dying to mechanics but eventually beat him. Special thanks to the Youtuber āPicolleā because I mostly used their build to beat him. Though I did not take Amplify Curse, regular Curse of Tongues worked fine enough.
What seemed to kill me quite a bit was overthinking the eggs, instead of just DPsing them down hard without thinking so much about it, I was trying to juggle in my head save this cd for that blah blah but it was more like, just reacting and pressing buttons hard and pressing anythingā¦ and DPsing while moving that I did much better than trying to āplan outā every egg. But YMMV. And on my kill I think one egg did go off but I just remembered to really kill it as quickly as I could with instant cast skills. Also interrupted it from stunning me with Mortal Coil.
I also uninstalled eviluii as it seemed to be slowing things down too much and causing lag deaths or something. Maybe not, but I used the basic UI and a few add-ons/macros and it worked fine enough. DBM also seemed better than Big Wigs for this fight at least. I never changed it with another add-on (though I know you can) but Blizzardās default health bars were kinda crap, they were too high over Zekvirās head making it hard to see. But I just moved the ātarget frameā thing to better track my Immolates/Curses and it worked fine enough. I would still like them to fix their health bars UI though because they feel kinda blah. Thereās no way to move them in the āedit screenā function it seems like???
One of the players on my realm spontaneously combusted because of this fight. At least, thatās what I like to imagine happened to him. I actually just put him on ignore because he wouldnāt calm down about it, ranting in multiple channels.
1000000% the same for me. I kept saying things like: cāmon mfkr your just a dumb bug, no no no itās fine weāll wait, play it safe no risks, patience-discipline. The reason I died <20% each time was realising holy crap Iām nearly there then lol.
IMO this fight is WAY too long. And has too many stacking RNG elements to call it fun. It not a skill expression type of fight.
Couple that with a giant bug in the room that takes most of the screen and then stick it all in a closet sized room so your camera is constantly bouncing. That good?
Nah letās also put swirlies nearly the same color as the floor with no outline and a larger explosion radius than they show. That good?
Nah letās stick a bunch of identical portals around the room so you can only know youāre out of them by checking the whole room. (thats gonna be fun right?)
One data point I have on this encounter is that it was very difficult to beat the first time on my first character. I finally got it this morning on my resto druid after probably 70+ attempts and a few spec adjustments.
Then this evening, I was curious about how itād go on my #1 alt, Frost mage. It took about 10 attempts.
I donāt know if that means the fight is easier once you have the experience, or if mages are just easier than resto druids. I could see an argument for both cases. Iāll try with deeper alts and see if I can come to a conclusion
Edit, on second thought, my winning attempt with the mage had TWO eggs spawn spiders and I was still able to salvage the attempt with cooldowns. I think that strongly points in the direction of mages having a relatively easy time with this encounter. Of all my attempts on druid, I think I survived one egg spawn and one fear.
