Sorry to break it out to you, but most people play or at least played for different reasons. This new mentality introduced since Legion has been killing the game slowly. I hope covenants are super IMPACTFUL and bring alot of variety back to the game.
Well, that’s an incredibly stupid thing to say.
Have you considered that there are plenty of “healthy people” who are interested in a challenge? You can’t simultaneously refuse to do keys higher than a 16 and claim that it takes no skill to push up to 20+.
I highly doubt it because different covenants will be better for different types of content. So choice of covenants will probably vary widely even by min/maxers. So people will just accept it with pugs and move on. Other factors will play a bigger role in choice of pugs.
Theres 0 challenge. If you wanna push instances like that, at least play a game that has a system built in for that, like Diablo 3. WoW was not built with that mentality in mind, which is why the likes of you keep complaining. Stop trying to ruin this game more than it has been ruined since Legion.
Blizzard literally created m+ and supported it with a tournament with a cash prize for who is the best.
Why are you speaking for Blizzard?
They will be. Way too much impactful. Imagine BfA day 1 where you’re given a full set of essences, corruption, and azerite traits and you’re locked into it forever. Enjoy your full set of Void Tendril corruption and running Unbound Force major as a Warrior if you made the wrong choice. Lmao
Huh? This is new from Shadowlands. This game has never seen any permanent choice that determines if your character is gonna hit 50% harder or only 10% harder.
Just play with your guild and friends.
When even the lead developer doesn’t have full confidence in something, it’s kind of hard to ignore.
Because a minority of players seem to enjoy that content?
And Im not advocating for them, they screwed up by making Mythic+ meta. I loved the idea of making dungeons relevant back then, but not this way. This is ripping off Diablo 3, which was already a super bad iteration of an ARPG, and trying to mash it in a MMORPG. Huge fail.
Mythic+ grinding/pushing should stay as a hipster activitiy for the minority that enjoys it.
The class you choose. From the devs interview, thats kinda the mentality behind covenants. And for a RPG, WoW has far too little choices. Covenants are a breath of fresh air that can maybe save it.
I have a very strong feeling that mythic+ is one of the main reasons a lot of people even remain subbed to this game for such an extended period of time…but apparently it’s killing the game in your eyes
M+ is universally considered one of the greatest additions to the game. What on the earth is your problem?
We don’t know how impactful though. Soulbind balance is near irrelevant for throughput, and the other borrowed power is completely within our control with conduits and legendaries. And we know just how powerful those legendaries were in Legion.
Until we have good, in game during beta analysis of the power of covenant abilities when everything else is active, can we say what the worst case scenario will look like.
My guess is it won’t look bad if they fix some outliers.
Oh yes, BfA 8.3 is definetely the high point of WoW, with millions of people subbed.
Well, look at other mmorpgs. None of them has these choices beyond picking a class, and even that is receiving new iterations. Some games allows you to swap class by clicking a button, on the same character!
Covenants can remain this permanent, impactful, filled with RPG elements decision without the player powers ruining the game for an undeniably big part of the playerbase.
No one is saying you can’t min/max. Just you don’t need to. I don’t need to go out and buy the same shoes LeBron is wearing to play a pickup game of basketball.
The only real question mark is the Soulbinds traits, as some are not yet implemented, others are way overboard (some kyrian soulbind traits are doing 20% of a healer’s output, ridiculous), and some have been straight up deleted.
All the rest has been figured out for the most part. Some Class covenant abilities are bugged so it’s hard to say for those, other than that though, you don’t need to wait the final week before release to have an educated guess.
Aesthetics and story are not everything there is to a RPG. Building your character and seeing how it changes your way to engage content is what makes the RPG experience unique. Agency is the key.
Old school RPGs were so good because the devs knew that. If you want some competitive environment with little to no customization, go play a real competitive game.
I’m curious as to the point where min/maxing becomes plain common sense for some people.
Old school rpgs as in like, single player games that people didn’t make a choice on the first day then play the same game for two years?
Don’t compare the writing of Baldurs Gate to that of WoW lol man cmon honestly.
Bit ironic you use that phrase when advocating for a system that locks you to one system no?
I do not think we have seen covenant abilities played with both the legendaries and conduits equipped?
That we need to see to see just how powerful the covenant abilities are since most of the abilities have limited interaction with the rest of the class.
I am not saying the system is good, just that I think the worst case scenario cannot be judged yet.
