You can 4-star Torghast while ignoring the Timer (I did)

Took my ilvl 196 alt through Layer 9 of Torghast solo, knew my time would stink, so figured I’d focus on going slow and steady and see what would happen:

32 minutes over par time, still got 4 stars to advance to Layer 10 next week

  • ilvl 196 character
  • solo run
  • Box of Many Things not active (1st 9.1 run for this character)

My floor times:
Floor 1: 12:52 (par time was 6:28)
Floor 2: 18:09 (par time was 6:00)
Floor 4: 19:26 (par time was 8:27)

Look at the extra points list on wowhead and look for things you can do. I also tried for “no trap damage” but screwed up and failed that one.

If you’re undergeared, or the timer worries you, just forget about it. Go slow and methodical, instead.

The development team was spot-on when they implemented this scoring system. What a fantastic addition to the player experience!

Thanks for sharing…

But everyone that hates Torghast is still going to ignore this…just like they did all the advice we gave them

I 4 starred both wings without even knowing how bonus points work. XD

I hope those who have a less-than-favorable view of Torghast give it another shot. Ion and the devs clearly took Season 1 feedback into consideration and churned out an upgraded Torghast that looks far more fun and meaningful. Kudos to them!

Hey, if just 1 person who was nervous about the timer gives it a shot after seeing this, then I’ll give myself a gold star and a cookie.

I missed a jug somewhere and only had a 98% completion bonus on one floor. Figured my 5-star run was ruined.

Nope, I finished 5 stars. Total completion was 99%.

So you don’t have to be TOTALLYYYY perfect.

I did a double-back and re-canvassed each floor to make sure I got all the jars, before leaving.

If you’re going massively over time anyway, might as well. I doubt the “time bonus” dips into negative points.

I thought I screwed myself on the 1st floor on my 2nd wing when I only got a 63% completion score.

Thankfully I am speed.

Considering the new “Empowered” buff, I think the time limit is a complete non-factor.

Clear all the boring trash, get Empowered. Keep clearing boring trash, use Empowered on anything you feel might be tough. Done and done.

One of the “open floor plans” I basically rounded up whatever was left once I had Empowered and just nuked it all down. It’s super OP.

The new TG is easy.

I bet you are wondering how this happened?

It’s silly but I was actually genuinely worried about the timer aspect, since I stress easily over time attack situations. I even reset my first run 4 times because I’d get myself killed on the first floor by overpulling, assuming that the game was expecting me to go through some high m+ levels of scoop 'n boom.

It was honestly a relief to see that I didn’t need to do that. My only concern now is being unsure if I can reach the ilvl expectations of the top layer solo and 5-star it, but at least it seems doable.

There is one specific floor layout in Upper Reaches that left me confused, though. It’s just a straight-shot corridor but somehow I managed to miss 33% of the destructibles the both times I got that pattern. I still don’t get how I could mess that up, and I’m wondering if there’s off-screen stuff I can’t reach maybe?

I mean yeah, but it’s a non-concern now since I already 4-starred it.

Was that the cave corridor with all the lava?

I…think so. You go up a couple sets of stairs along the way.

Jumping puzzle time! If you leap on the rocks to the right you eventually find more rocks hidden behind the pillars with a ton of jars (including an anima power jar).

Oh, I’m thinking of another pattern, then. I know about that one. I assumed you meant the lava was far below the walkways, since it had a heated color palette and is suspended over a pit halfay through.

Thats nice, but the real issue is the new Torghast wing that appears after the floor 5 boss requires 5 stars.

Do you feel as if the Par time is balanced for your ilvl or does it feel influenced by people who overgear the layer? That is my main problem with the timer. You shouldn’t get bonus points for beating a timer or influence where that timer is set if you overgear that content level. Set the timer based on appropriate ilvl for class/spec or don’t have a timer. Don’t reward people with a bonus when it took less skill to tackle the content.
