this is failure to understand the minutia of debate tools. you have conflated any insult with ad hominem, which is circumstantial.
So instead of saying the definition is wrong, you are attacking my credibilty, an Ad Hominem at its finest The definition applys to any time you direct your arguments against a person instead of their argument.
Example:
The OPs argument: Gold runs are one of the most questioned activities of the game.
My argument: Gold runs/carries have been around forever and don’t seem to have a negative impact on the game.
Ad Hominem attack on my position: You must be tone-deaf if you don’t agree that Gold Runs have a negative impact on the game.
A possible argument against my argument: I believe if we did a survey most people oppose gold runs and boosting. The forums seem to support this.
Counter argument: I believe if we did that survey most people wouldn’t care. I don’t believe the forums are a good representative example of the general WoW population.
You get the idea. It is perfectly possible to disagree without attacking the person you disagree with. But now I’m really done with my forum entertainment for the day.
Happy journeys in Azeroth.
saying you are wrong is an attack on your credibility? that is some ego my dude.
Saying someone is wrong, saying they’re tone deaf is borderlined. Not saying he was right but some added comments are unnecessary.
In a debate, and yes I have been in many formal debates. If you attack the opposing team members you lose points (even by just saying they are wrong). What you do is disagree with one of their arguments and provide a counter argument. Believe me, I lost a debate once for being too sarcastic You never attack the opposing team members.
P.S. Bottom line, in any debate the ideas should be the targets not the people presenting them.
how so? tone deaf is a very specific kind of error, it means you have failed to judge the crowd to which you are speaking correctly. its more descript than just saying someone is wrong
if you are feeling particularly sadistic, you do both, that way they are both upset from the insult and have to put double energy into responding to both the insult and the point, but that is irrelevant because:
you never said how calling someone tone deaf is an insult, instead side tracked with a useless debate about ad hominem. the only thing insulted by being called tone deaf is ego, and ego can and should be ignored.
I mean, that is what you said
Have you read the definition, even the slang definition of tone deaf ? I can’t find a single instance that supports your interpretation. If you want to say someone is misjuding the crowd to which you are speaking, then say that.
However, what does that even mean and how is it relavent to the disucssion? Does it support the OPs premise or counter someone elses counter argument? Were your trying to say you’ll be trolled in the forums for your take on this issue? I mean, heck, you’re likely to be trolled (if someone thinks you are trollable) no matter what you say.
thats because you didn’t look.
but i didn’t do so by questioning anyone’s intelligence or capability. everyone makes mistakes, pointing them out is only a problem for narcissists.
I had to lol when I saw this. It is what it is, this is WoW take it or leave it.
Also good luck to all on that 9.2 and 10.0 wait. Its gona shatter records.
I did, but now you are just trolling so I’ll leave you to it, happy journeying.
Boosting for gold is in the game since day 1, it’s not wrong in any way and blizzard don’t prohibitate it.
Theres 0 reason to be mad, if you are mad at a player that is earninng gold by playing the game you are just dumb.
The thing that make people mad about it is people paying with tokens that they bought with $ but ain’t no players fault that the token is beign sold by $ dumbasses
Other thing is trade chat, blizzard should do a proper way to stop spamming lfg’s and chat’s with sales, not a player side problem too, boosting will never go away, not matter if u like it or not
So either you are dumb or your hatred is being directed at the wrong target.
no you didn’t, it took me 30 seconds to get 5 links up and ready to go with definitions and articles showing examples.
your google-fu is weak.
oh hey is this the high school debate club meeting
Nah this is some autist club who arent able to hook onto the real subject.
middle school after the teacher left the room
Bring out them torches!
…I want to sell carries and will argue to I’m blue in the face cuz…I want to and gets me EZ gold for low effort!!! …Ybarra!
…I hate carries cuz ///insert reason here/// and you all should too! …Ybarra!
Blargh!
PS. I do think Oni and Baator had some good points among a few others, so all is not lost.
From Software will eat your food. Japan will bring the honor back to MMOS. Sit down when you used to stand up. XD
If you can’t spot a boosted player before you invite them to your group that’s on you.
It’s extremely easy to spot boosted characters
Weird how in something so “trivial” you have never gotten CE and if your next excuse is well I pvp how comes this scrublord pve person has managed to get duelist multiple times for cloaks without working hard and you haven’t even gotten it once?
