Less brackets, more players, low level being less of a rush to max, and honor/marks actually mattering. Those are reasons that come to mind immediately, at least.
So lets try to work with this.
- Less brackets - The level squish will be taking care of this IF blizzard goes through with it, which I honestly am very much hoping for.
- This would also cover low levels being less of a rush in a way.
- Marks/honor mattering - Honor really doesnāt matter at all. Iām honor level 130 and I really feel like theres no point to it. Blizzard loves to add toys and such, maybe some level specific toys for participating in Battlegrounds would be a good idea.
Perhaps with both of those points being met we could eventually remove Battleground experience. Would you need more rewards than toys or transmog to encourage low level PVP?
To be fair, you took a possibly random, possibly not random sample. To show thatās the average leveler, youād need to determine what exactly youāre looking for or what is expected and the sample size would be well over 1000.
Iām not accusing you of this, but there was someone not long ago who used to post SSās of people but you could obviously tell they were cherry-picked. Many of them made no sense. SSās are a slippery slope when trying to prove blanket statements.
Honestly I donāt think BG XP is ever going to be removed, itās specifically an alternative option for leveling. No matter how the queues would be afterwards, I just donāt see Blizzard doing it. The playerbase in general is different now, and we already see anything that even slightly slows leveling, or even looks like it might slow leveling, is met with an outrage and conspiracy theories about boosts.
On the honor thing though, Honor should have never been tied to cosmetics like it is now imo. One of the reasons I liked PvPing on low levels before vendors were nuked was using the honor gained while leveling to get an immediate piece of gear at max, like a tiny headstart.
Iām very firmly in the āWe need PvP vendors backā crowd.
The biggest issue he mentioned was the only one you didnāt touch on: We donāt have 12 million active subscribers anymore.
Even if we did, again, why kill PvPāers one and only way to level?
We have BGās that donāt award experience right now. Theyāre in the XP-off queue where no one is playing because most players want experience in BGs.
This isnāt vanilla/bc anymore. At one point it was fun to kill wild boars, run from Stormwind to Westfall on foot, and join battlegrounds just for the sake of joining battlegrounds. Nowadays people arenāt content with that.
Its not fresh, its not new anymore. The novelty is gone in that regard. You are asking to recapture lightning in a bottle.
We see the remnants of people who still enjoy that type of thing via exp off battlegrounds and those are deserted. I highly doubt toys or transmogs are going to be incentive enough to coax players into getting farmed by twinks.
I agree. I think the population is just far too low for that. Considering theres only 3 million people at 120, I cant imagine the lower level playerbase being able to support themselves without experience.
Honor for cosmetics isnāt too bad, if we could still use marks for gear and such.
Damn you guys, let me respond to one at a time!
They werenāt. Iāve seen this on the forums a couple of time now, but as someone who would BG back then, the queues were forever long while leveling. For vanilla and BC you had to go to the PvP NPC to queue for BGs. There was no LFG system in BC and Vanilla and halfway through WoTLK. To take it even furtherā¦ You should have seen BGs before Battlegroups were a thing.
Do you think that perhaps you were on a lower population Battlegroup? I can agree with the other replies Iāve gotten, but I disagree with you here. I remember quite vividly how fast the queues were, because I was often trying to queue with my friends who were already in BGs.
Another thing is that back then, Battlegrounds didnāt wait for 10 players to be available for each team before starting. You could enter a BG with only 3-4 other people on both sides and it would either populate quickly or the BG would end. It was very rare to be sitting in a long queue because youād often quickly be thrusted into a horribly imbalanced amount of players.
My queue times back then were ~15 minutes for most level brackets, less than a minute for 60 (I loved AV). I guess that varied from server to server, group to group.
Beat me to it.
Cyclone 4 lyfe
I was dealing with 30-45 min queues while leveling. ~10 min for max level. Once XP was introduced though, that was a game changer. Everyone was in BGs after that.
I canāt even remember why I did lowbie BGs in vanilla. The gear rewards I guess? Some of the stuff on the WSG/AB quartermasters was pretty nice.
Iāve still got my Lifestealing Sentinels blade on my old 19 rogue twink
What I was getting at there was no reason to. It was fun, thats it. Even if you were facing twinks, you could still easily sway the balance of the game with proper play. Giving twink rogues curse of weakness, fearbombing healers, ect. Twinks were easily checked by non-twinks who had knowledge of the game, and the rockpaperscisors aspect of the game in regard to classes helped that situation.
That is no longer the case in the game today.
Whoa no no no no no. Back then the gap was larger than it is now. The battlegroup queues may have varied by each battlegroup, but this statement is simply not true. BC and Vanilla were the golden age for twinks for a reason.
Iād like to invite you to look at any of my past streams if youād like to reconsider that attitude. I go around killing 120s on my 110 for a few of them, but most are me just annihilating anyone who comes near me in battlegrounds.
Twinks were absolutely NOT as strong as they are now. Maybe in the 19s, but honestly 19 twinks had such small kits that their power was purely in damage, instead of battleground control. One solid warlock can seriously disrupt everything they try to do.
They should separate / template before 60 and mix everyone after 60.
Thatās cute, but we arenāt talking about 110. We are talking about back in the day. Sorry but the average leveler couldnāt hold a candle to my Shadowfang with Fiery or my Assasinās Blade with Lifestealing. My Fishing hat with a Arcanum of Constitution? Enchant chest with the +100 HP. My shoulders, literally any shoulders since the average player didnāt have them until much later in levels.
You think anyone was gonna kill a FC holding Furbolg Medicine Pouch?
There were no Heirlooms back then. Everyone started with the same stuff. I could Ambush 1-shot any non twink in the 19 and 29 bracket.
You think people going into brackets in white gear is a problem now? That was the norm back in the day!
No changes.
