Wyrmrest World PvP

I think most of the other servers in our group are marginal–it really comes down to MG and WrA, since they’re the two RP servers that still have large populations, and MG is just bigger and heavily alliance focused. From my time in WM it seems to basically be a big mob of MG alliance and a smaller population of WrA Horde, with the other servers not being a particularly meaningful pop

I’m sure you could balance out Horde side population by chucking in some big non-RP Horde-focused server like Area 52 but does Horde want that?

If I recall we would send some tanks in one direction and send a few up the long route around the edge of the map with some mounted escorts. The alliance had a buff that almost made us raid bosses since our numbers were so small. This was after weeks/months of demoralizing losses where the Horde would just repeatedly kill us in our graveyard so hardly any Alliance would join in after that. I hated Horde players on this server for a long time after how toxic some of them were back then.

It really pissed them off when they started to have to work for their wins or even lost a few once Xara and AAO rallied people together. Fun times.

That’s funny, you know who Aggressor is? he was born here in this realm

I remember that. I would tell my guildies we absolutely weren’t gy camping because of it. We had a couple who tried to, anyway and I booted them. I wanted a fair fight, not killing people at rez. Where’s the fun in that for either side?

I still won’t gy camp.

wpvp died out with BFA. Considering SL was a horrible xpac, maybe it will come back in DF.

Other than that, WRA is only a RP server, people are usually chill here or not really involved with aspects of PVP

I do remember Xara had some really crazy strategies, like hiding behind a location in WG until everyone on the opposing team moved on and then he’d come out of nowhere with a zerg of Alliance players to take the base. He would crack me up.

I spent a lot of time being bait, but I was still bearal and hadn’t converted to Our Lady Of Perpetual Lazer, moonfire spam.

Originally PvP was something I did reluctantly for easy green stat armor, but Winergrasp turned me around on it.

That’s actually hilarious and makes a lot of sense. I forgot the whole numbers buff happened.

Wasn’t there something like that for warmode? A bigger buff if your faction wasn’t participating as much? Not a damage / HP buff but for rewards.

I wonder if they’ll ever change the warmode bonus from the way it is now. Its only a marginal difference, but it is kind of a slap in the face for Alliance to have a bigger group and better rewards. Granted, Horde could change one of those things. Doesn’t really seem like there’s a good reason to though.

As a (soon to be formally) EDer, WPvP and RP-PvP is certainly what caught my attention and kept me so involved in this game. But so far in my WM experiences on ED I’ve yet to see a lot of camping, raids, etc. Thankfully Blizz did hotfix Bloody Tokens so they can no longer be collected in raids, which is often the reason for raids forming and camping entire zones - to farm some wanted currency/reward. Raids hardly form just for fun, either out of natural PvP progression (1v2 > 3v2 > 5v6 > 12v9 etc etc) or to farm X, which does include honor at popular points. The very few that do just form for fun, a PvP night or whatever, do have some respect to them. To this day we still have guilds on ED that will raid up, but split into smaller party sized groups for a whole zone or two. They’re together for when the response does become overwhelming for any one group.

I share the sentiment though for RP servers, at least the healthy/active ones, seeing those little pings in World Defense would cause some naturally occurring WPvP and RP-PvP, even if just super casual RP-PvP. Guild members sitting around the fire in Revantusk Village, Tarren Mill, Dragonmaw Port, Ironforge, Hammerfall, Darnassus, the list goes on and just “So a dwarf came by today. I threw them in with the rest.” It was casual fun, close and personal yet just picked up.

Entire old world zones turned into battlefields. Ashenvale was an absolute war zone cause some tiny upstart orc guild thought they could take the entire zone themselves. A few elves came to fight them and say no, they asked for friends, other orcs came, then more elves, then more Horde, then more Alliance, and next thing you know it was a legit BG for a month and the RP was fantastic. So much is added, to me at least, when you’re just RPing in a contested zone when you legit have the worry of being ambushed and killed in the middle of it. Your RP changes, how you play changes, what you get out of it is so much more. Your heart legit races when you see that red little dot running or flying on the mini map or see that red name from afar.

I’d still just encourage WM in general, even if just for that 10% reward buff. The only way WM improves, in its current state, is to actually turn it on. In my understanding it does defer to your current server, connected ones like MG or ED, and only then will it bring in others. Same thing with raids, I believe it does now defer to the majority shard among players in the group rather than just the leaders. So its either that or we start poking Org and SW again for some spontaneous fights.

Had some good war mode antics last night with MG and WRA players!

I mained on pvp servers from vanilla until the end of Wrath. Then, from Cata through to around WoD, I still played alts on pvp servers instead of pvping on WrA. I feel like I missed a great era, though I also would have missed great times on my PvP servers so what can you do.

I think if war mode existed back then, I might have just stuck to it on here, though I do prefer the old server structure to war mode.

Consider it rose tinted glasses but I’d massively prefer the swap back to PvP objection / dailies that Legion had.
They could be repetitive, sure, and there’s always a chance of running into a mass enemy group, but at least the player decided to investigate it more naturally and once they saw the “flagged for PvP” prompt, they knew anyone could jump them anytime.

Aha!

When I joined the server last year, leveled up and turned on WM, then started asking around as to why we were always getting stomped and very few WM-enabled Horde were running around, people were kind of sheepish or had nothing to say. Now I know why. Folks just got what they asked for.

This is essentially why I’ve always held the opinion that developers should listen to the players less and stay true to their vision. Players are not game designers, no matter how passionate they are about the game. They shouldn’t be given any more credence than Steven Spielberg would give me in suggesting that his next film do X, Y, and Z.

If they brought back PvP servers, you’d know cause my fluffy butt would be a ghost. Not that I don’t love WRA- I legitimately do! I migrated from Emerald Dream when the servers dissolved and haven’t looked back, but there’s only so much a squad of 3~5 vulpera (and sometimes a dracthyr) can do on their own against the crushing MG numbers.

Outside of just recruiting for a PvP Guild, I’m really not sure there’s much else we CAN do. WRA-H just doesn’t want to pvp that much.

ayyy it’s immy, hope you end up here soon. You describe what used to happen well I often wonder what simply adding world defense in could do for WPvP culture if they could find some way to make it work with sharding.

Adding Wold Defense back, if they can figure out the technical details since I remember that was the primary issue between WM on or off, what shard, etc) I think would be an amazing start to bringing WPvP back to the old world. Maybe its only enabled if you’re in War Mode? Thats for the devs to figure out.

Did just come across this today though: https://twitter.com/TromaFR/status/1602367012830941201

Would be a great idea to implement something like a world quest/weekly quest, or even monthly given the new trading post, to the game that drags folks out for WPvP. Attach some rewards to it, maybe add some extra NPCs for quests and challenges, and you’re set.

As someone who hasn’t turned off Warmode since it’s launched outside of RP events my experience has been overall positive BUT I’ve definitely noticed a lopside to Alliance having that much more numbers during leveling. I’ve felt this during Shadowlands and now Dragonflight.

As I main a rogue I’m fortunate that I can pick and choose my fights but I can imagine when it comes to going through the grind on my shaman and priest that it’s going to be a less stellar experience.

Also shout out to Tops for backing me up the other day. I was really on some MG’s rogue’s and warrior’s hate-list the other day.

Would be a great idea. Bleh so many simple things could help. This xpac feels ripe for having something akin to Halaa

Idk. I get killed by blood elves and awwwful lot. No lack of horde to fight from my PoV.

Try to contest an air drop, I dare you.

…Every time I try to contest an air drop, I’m usually alone against 20-30 alliance, 95% of which are from Moon Guard. :frowning:

Also, I’m sorry to the horde players I killed in my bloodlust for sparks of life tonight at the cobalt assembly FFA WQ, I just wanted the sparks, I swear! :sob: …not apologizing for killing a bunch of alliance from Moon Guard, though.

That said, I usually don’t attack first unless given a reason to… even helped a group of four alliance clear out the siege on dragonbane keep back when the population in war mode was… manageable. …ended up inadvertently getting ~60 honor cause they all died to the boss multiple times and my Twin Moonfires tagged them randomly <_<

Hey, if you are ever in need of a WPVP budy count me in
