Damn, Datan is a blast from the past. It’s funny how you forget the names of people who might make you feel like a BG is an automatic loss.
^ Oh man, I can’t believe I missed this in the post from Aethun. I LOVED finding Datan in Tol Barad on my warrior. He was an absolute blast to fight, and I would sometimes get him to come out after Tol Barad matches for a little exhibition match. I dueled him for like 11 minutes one time till eventually I fell. Had him close a few times but he had me against the ropes - definitely my favorite warrior rival.
I remember calling him out (ICly) on the forums and chatting with him after, he was a stand up guy. Never walked away from a fight against him I didn’t learn something new.
I never talked to him but I heard he was a sweetheart. Getting iced by Datan is a memory so vivid in my head that I still remember the dumb low res yellow lvl 40 plate helmet he had mogged LMAO
I see your Datan and I raise you a Xara.
The original leader of the guild Against All Odds they rallied the alliance together in wintergrasp against overwhelming numbers of horde and got us a few wins by being sneaky or using insane tactics. A certain orc warrior accused us of exploiting. Good times
I’ve only turned off WM for RP events and it seems like there’s a healthy mix of blues and reds.
Granted I’m initially from ED and exclusively played on RPPvP servers since the minute they launched. I’m not particularly aggressive and can’t actually remember a time I attacked unprovoked. Unless you AFK’ed near a ledge or body of water in which case the intrusive thoughts win and I will probably MC you to your doom.
I more like WM for the consistent threat of danger than the actual fighting. Seeing a red name pop up and not knowing which way this could go adds some much needed spicey tension to questing imho.
I do plan on being more of a scoundrel on my Rogue once she’s fully operational. But I loathe picking fights with decent seeming people so mainly I’ve just sapped and /booped people.
I do quite enjoy dive bombing people off their dragons though. So if you got blind sided by an undead rogue with a green engineer eyepatch that was probably me.
There are the crates but the PvP funbucks buy gear that seems worse than the Honor versions, far as I can tell, so I’ve not bothered.
It does seem like an interesting idea though. Seems like that sort of currency should be handed out in fistfulls to new and returning players so they can actually stand a chance.
Typical nerd behavior. Think outside the box and suddenly you’re a kick-botter.
I do wish I could have seen some of those Wintergrasp battles. Back then, were the icons of the siegecraft on the map?
I find it hard to believe some of the stories, like taking all the tanks up some side corridor and completely taking the Horde by surprise. I’ve heard Kirsy and others tell that story often enough, but it just seems so ridiculous. How can you not know where the entire raid of enemies is?
Not that I don’t believe it happened, it just seems so absurd.
Reading through all of these replies it seems to me that what WA Horde needs is a guild devoted to War Mode and responding to attacks. There was a blood elf-centric guild a while back, not sure if they’re still operational.
I’ll be part of it.
Anyway, I’m taking my time leveling this character as I’ve been away a while and I’m soaking up the ambience, but I’m going to switch on WM. If you need help, a quest buddy, or whatever, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Having a healer buddy has its advantages.

I mean things were pretty wacky in WrA WG for a number of reasons. With certain guilds being hyper-organized and the general playerbase on WrA being very…we’ll say casual, even a small group of skilled players would do some stuff that sounds like campfire stories. You end up with a couple dozen regulars who are just dunking on everyone like Dynasty Warriors. But yeah, we are also all nostalgic boomers so there’s that
Is that what WrA is comprised of mostly? Nostalgic boomers?
I’m genuinely asking as I’m new.
I mean, probably not any more than the greater WoW playerbase. So yeah pretty much.
I remember fighting Against All Odds and sometimes even Valhalla in Wintergrasp. As the rightful High Executor of Wintergrasp, it was quite a treat… I even set alarms to drop whatever I was doing to log on to go back in to fight there.
It is disappointing to see the Isles run amok with Moonguard Alliance most of the time, with only a handful of Horde stragglers on the perimeter of a drop or WQ. If anyone throws together a community or something similar for WPvP on Wra I’d happily join.
Sunfury Battalion has entered the chat
We’ve been having fun hunting down Alliance bounties and securing the crates for other Hordies, speakin of…
the bloody token gear gives a set bonus that only activates in wpvp, its a 6set so youll be able to fill in the rest with honor gear to maximize your stats. so in the end, youll have a bloody token set for wpvp and an honor set for arenas/bgs
Doesn’t the PvP gear jump to 411 under any PvP circumstance though? Seems to. Idk I’ve turned off WM and seen my stats spike like I did a DBZ when it’s back on.
yep, the honor gear goes to 411 and the wpvp set goes to 408
but the wpvp stuff gives a 6piece set bonus (vers bonus, shield when stunned, stacking vers and ms buff), so you’ll want to get that but get the rest in honor gear.
the set bonus doesnt work in arenas or bgs which is why youll want a complete honor set as well
It’d be better if we weren’t paired with like, three predominantly alliance servers and no other Horde ones.
What was Blizzard’s logic in clustering us the way they did though? Are they even aware of how lopsided it is?
It’s like they didn’t see a problem with merging the Jordan-era Bulls with the Magic Johnson-era Lakers and pitting them against some expansion team loaded up with rookies fresh out of high school (sorry for the basketball comparison, and no disrespect to my fellow Horde).
I’m very good at pvp. pats my own back
Years ago there was a big push to keep RP servers independent on server sharding. Our communities are important, and Blizzard respectfully grouped us together.
So, we shot ourselves in the foot.
