Rimworld’s pretty nice for base building. Highly moddable and it’s also possible to turn off raids and natural disasters if you just want a chill “watch little pixel people make a cozy farm” game. That’s more or less how I play it.
A bunch of us were talking about Minecraft last night. Try getting an appearance mod. They can smooth out the look of the blocks.
Otherwise, your best bet with building is modded Conan Exiles. But I don’t have a current server to recommend. They tend to have a lot of drama.
Hi guys how’s the lounge thread going-
Oh, oh yeah. Got slapped in the face with how misogynistic the country is.
Also if we want base making games, been going hard with camp building in Fallout 76. Unfortunately all the cool looking stuff is from the cash shop, because of course it is, but you can earn quite a bit of the cash currency by completing in game achievements. Haven’t spent a dime on atoms and I’ve gotten a lot of goodies for my camp.
76 is a gem! Or was when I would play it. They do have a pretty hard fomo cash shop, but you get alot of atoms (currency) for subbing as well as really good QOL perks. It’s also less than a monthly WoW sub. It’s also also, as far as I know, no paid dlc content beyond cosmetics. Like all story and gameplay stuff is available with your purchase, no sub. Again this is far as I know. Haven’t played in about a year, but might pick it up again now that I am thinking about it.
Uuuuuh well it’s a bit out there but have you tried The Sims with mods n cheats?
There’s a lot you can just kinda build in those games, without even touching the play modes. The Sims 4 is also pretty good for building, and has even better tools; I’ve seen someone build all of Dalaran on a Sims 4 lot once. I personally play The Sims 2 and it’s just a nice little “sit and create things” ideal, especially once you embrace cheating and modding. The Sims 2 is only available thru piracy, and you do need to get certain mods so it detects modern hardware, but that’s not a dealbreaker for me so. 2 is my personal favorite because you can then build entire neighborhoods, and once you learn all the cheats, you can get really creative with the families, too. Since the game is a dollhouse, once you know how to step outside the boundaries it really does become just a game you decide for yourself. I can give a list of really good Sims 2 mods n cheats for anyone who wants to just Play God for a bit.
Really the only one I don’t recommend is 3 because it does not run in build mode and the lighting in that game is horrendous.
i been yearning for the mines(craft)
Fields of Mistria has ended up being delightful, in spite first impressions. Going to lead into the game a bit longer to see what else happens.
Rimworld on the lowest settings can be a very chill, zen like experience. Be picky with where you land (Specifically a year-round growing season), and just till the soil and raise animals and deal with the occasional power spike or mechanical breakdown. You can literally turn off all hostile factions if you want to.
Beyond that, my go-to for the past twenty odd years for that sort of thing has been Majesty. Specifically Majesty Gold HD. Beautiful pixel art (Not voxels like Minecraft, but 2D art) where you play the ruler of Ardinia, and you build the buildings that will bring forth the heroes into the land to make it safe for the people. As more heroes arrive, your kingdom grows. Which of the three other races will you court into your kingdom? The industrious Dwarves, the Ephemeral Elves, or the helpful Gnomes?
At higher difficulties it can be obnoxious, but on Easy it’s fairly chill and it even gives you the option to continue playing after you’ve completed the victory condition, so you can just keep filling up the map with your town and heroes.
My favorite base builder is Dwarf Fortress. It doesn’t really have a creative mode but the difficulty level can vary wildly depending on your embark location… haunted/evil biomes are ridiculously hard, but normal biomes with no hostile neighbors (such as uninhabited islands) can be quite peaceful.
But I think I’ve already shilled Dwarf Fortress to you at some point in the past because I have some screenshots and a vague memory of getting a dwarf named after you killed in this game

While it isn’t much in the graphics department it is one of the most satisfying games to build stuff in for me just because nothing else lets you get quite so grandiose with your constructions. It’s not minecraft where you’re building a house for yourself, or even Rimworld where you’re building a village for a dozen people, its all about building your own mines of moria for hundreds of dwarves with as much grand architecture and weird magma-based infrastructure projects as you want.
Anyway maybe a misguided suggestion since even at its easiest it can be a little stressful at times when you accidentally cave in your miners or forget to seal the caverns and get someone eaten by a cave crocodile, but the dwarves have become firmly lodged in my soul so I cannot help myself
My favorite base builder that I use to make little towns and cities for my ttrpg games is Tiny Glade
I have a coworker who was using 7 Days to Die on passive mode to build a complete, intricate scale model of Midgar, upper and lower sections.
Needless to say I was amazed at how much patience that must take.
Do they then intend to trigger a Blood Moon and watch it be overcome?
They very explicitly did not want that to happen, no. They were just using it as a minecraft.
I on the other hand would have been morbidly and gleefully fascinated to see a sufficient number of zombies just devastate the whole thing.
This is literally how I played the original Sim City: Build up a sprawling metropolis, unleash the Godzilla. Rebuild stronger, rinse, repeat.
I never got into SimCity, but I spent way WAY too much time playing SimEarth back in the day. Always liked Daisy World and smacking comets into it and watching the civilization on the world descend into nuclear armageddon and the eventual rise of the robots. The manual for that thing was MASSIVE.
Good game, but not what I’m looking for. Style is all wrong.
I’ve been debating this one, because FO4 scratched my building itch well. Have you played Custom Worlds? Is it worth it?
If someone would make a “rustic” version of SIMS where everything isn’t pretty shiny, I’d probably be all in.
Not at all my style but it looks decent for anyone that would entertain it.
Again, looks good for the pixel games but pixel games never scratch my building itch.
Not my idea of a builder, but I’ve spent many hours trying to play it. Enjoyable!
Not what I’m looking for BUT I picked this up a few weeks ago. IMO, they need to add a lot more but wow is this a relaxing game! I’d like the ability to place the little things myself instead of the game auto generating them, but it seems like they have much more on the horizon. Looking forward to it.
Much more the style I’m looking for, but I’ve already got it and am taking a break. Passive mode is a blast, tons of options.
Someone needs to create a cozy diorama game where you literally just build.
Most games that include base building typically have prefab walls/floors/doors/etc. One thing I’ve loved about Valheim is that you can break it down to the log and the brick. You can literally build your own wall, your own floor, your own door, etc. You can terraform and build up hills or tear them down. Create the coastline you want. Create the map you want.
SOTF has a similar building mechanic, but it’s very limited. I did enjoy it, until I exhausted all the building options because building isn’t the point of the game.
TBH, I’m not sure the game I want actually exists. Someone out there needs to create it, because I’m not a tech person.
Appreciate everyone’s input!
Had to put our cat Penny down this morning she got very sick with something very quick and they said they couldn’t do anything that would help her.
Supposed to have a disability appointment today but thats been cancelled.
I am so sorry. We are still hurting from putting our older gentleman, Jackson Tchopitoulas Este esq., down last year. It was a sudden thing as well. It always hurts, but those quick ones, man - they are hard to get over. My best wishes and good energies to you and your family. I’m sure Penny is doing well in kitty Valhalla. <3
Got Loremaster of War Within and unlocked the Earthen. Now I can level some alts
I’m sorry to hear. As a rescuer, I have many, many sad kitty stories so I’m an ear if need be.
Losing your own pet is to lose a member of the family. Be sure to take time for yourself and also any other pets who were left behind. They grieve, too.
