Says the one who was just screaming about something before bothering to find out what actually happened and arguing with people who tried to explain.
Overwolf is malware. Make sure to download wowup.io instead.
Dang it Mortis! Take your like and get out of here!
Actually it’s not at least not anymore than Twitch but that’s a different discussion.
There’s no need to fear!
That’s cause there’s only 1 EULA that covers everything Blizzard these days and it looks like the way they present the updates to you is via the battle.net launcher.
I’ve examined the new update (dated Oct 9th) and there doesn’t appear to be much affecting the average player. Two clauses in the license limitations dealing with harrasment have been merged until a single clause and the verbiage affecting those playing from countries under US sanctions or embargoes has been expanded. There might be some updated URLs but I’m at work so can’t check those.
Blizzard isn’t redirecting you to a third party site like that… I have been running the Overwolf beta for a little over a week and never had an issue with it. Honestly, I find your entirely story highly suspect.
I’m sure they’ve spent millions buying the service and developing the “free” tools and they have to make money some way and that’s probably going to be some mix of scraping and selling your data and putting adds in front of you.
WorldOfWarcraft/_retail/Interface/AddOns
just copy them there yourself.
Hey so I’ve never met an overwolf dev before… why do you guys want to play an ad before allowing me to hit “update addon”
I mean I am assuming you are a overwolf dev but the way you are bending yourself into knots because people have caught onto the junk overwolf does is a bit much for a casual observer.
I used overwolf for a while, my computer started getting slower after a time and then overwolf itself was playing ads to me and I couldn’t close their program even with alt+f4
Its malware, anyone who has used it for more than a few days knoiws it is malware because they experienced it themselves.
You want evidence? It would be hard to show you because I SACRIFICED EVERYTHING… er… reinstalled windows after it killed my PC
They may have been wrong, but Overwolf is still garbage. Let’s not take that away from them.
Like the ps5… I will wait a while and see what happens with the community before I get it.
Then use the Cursed Forge website and DL them yourself. You act like the Overwolf launcher is your only option.
As I already said, I have been using if for close to two weeks and never had an issue with it. It closes just fine and don’t chew up any resources in the back ground. Now things may change once they enable the add service but right now it is no different then me updating with the Twitch Launcher.
WoW going Downhill
Not wows property, this is 100% 3rd party.
Still going Downhill
My experience with overwolf was quite a few years ago, they wanted to be jerks back then (I am thinking wod? maybe early legion?) so I have no reason to trust they won’t start being jerks again once twitch pulls addon support and they get the monopoly they want. They can be as evil and malicious as they want to be once twitch is out of the picture.
As a great? man once said “Fool me once, shame on you… Fool me twice… well I won’t get fooled again!”
This just isn’t true. You only need the twitch launcher for add-ons. With Overwolf you need the add-on browser + the overwolf app. So it is inherently different.
You need overwolf to be on all the time to use it? That’s more then enough reason to not use it and learn to download them separetly.
Don’t know if the malware claims are real or not, but I read a write up about them by Forbes. The CEO said they are putting adds on the addon app, and that’s good enough for me not to download it. I’ll be looking for an alternative.
Yeah. What’s worse is they make their new curse app look real clean and professional like, giving people the perception that the app is secure when it’s far from it.
I uninstalled the twitch app immediately. WoWup is a very good alternative. It has NONE of the bloat, it just gives it to you straight. A one stop shop to update your addons. Very easy.
Now Overwolf in their infinite wisdom is trying to crack down on third party add-on managers for reasons that befuddle me. Worse case scenario I will just stop using whatever add-ons that become unusuable as a result should the need ever arise. And will only look to seek alternative add-ons that are not developed through Curse.
I will never download or support w company like that, they can eat my embalming fluid. Which is just a more polite way of saying something more explicative that would warrent a forum vacation.
Overwolf can burn.
