Same here, I also got the updated terms thing. I don’t use Overwolf, only have a few addons installed.
I literally linked where they said that. I know you’re trying to be helpful, but maybe read what people write first.
That’s fine, as I said I was just correctly the misinformation. You can use whatever justification you want for not using it, I just don’t want it to be because of something that was clearly incorrect.
thats a california being retarded thing

Bless TL3ers who do this thanks.
I’ll manually install add-ons and live with a couple of minutes of life it wastes.
You could always use wowup
Or have a cheap laptop with nothing on it of any importance, security-wise - nothing that requires a password… That way if it does get wrecked, you can just toss it.
The difference is in those games Overwolf has apps built into their updater for those game that require you to keep the updater open to run them. That is not the case (or at least not so far) with WoW.
(: ta. It seemed appropriate at the time.
I have a friend that does that. A cheap laptop that he uses to try and see just how bad he can get is screwed over. It is completely isolated and he has a digital backup he can restored to at any time. He loves to go to all the dark places you never want to go to.
If you’re really dedicated, you could keep a read-only Ubuntu thumb drive that you boot into just for naughtysurfing purposes. Two layers of protection there: most garden variety malware only targets Windows, and even if you do catch something since the thumb drive is read-only rebooting will reset everything to a clean slate.
That is actually an interesting idea!
This is an example of an app with in game ads running on top of the Overwolf framework. It’s an app written by the guys at Icy veins not any of the team at Overwolf.
The curseforge app is being written by a team at Overwolf.
Overwolf is a terrible terrible system. I understand why addon makers support it though if what they claim is true. Overwolf is trying to make it so they can pay addon creators. I just think forcing spyware and advertisements isn’t the proper channel to get that done.
No it doesn’t. If you tell it to quit both Overwolf and curseforge then it quits all Overwolf related processes. I have literally seen the processes start then quit themselves not long after quitting the curseforge app.
Why does it seem like there are a handful of overwolf developers in this forum… DEAD SET on denying any issues with overwolf “Eh so it collects your data, you don’t even notice it running in the background without permission so WHO CARES”
The internet does not forget what you guys did overwolf, stop trying to brush it under the rug to save your new investment. NOBODY wanted to migrate to overwolf and twitch had it handled just fine so yes… people will be mad you are disrupting their addon-getting experience just because you saw a group of people you could build a monopoly on top of.
You made a bad investment overwolf devs, you have made alot of new enemies.
Agreed, OP. I’m gonna go back to doing them individually like we did back in the day because I won’t put an Overwolf app on my machine. I just won’t do it. I’m also going to uninstall Twitch because there’s no point in having it anymore. Huge mistake on their part, imo.
The one thing I will take from this thread and the others we’ve had since news broke of it is that Overwolf or whatever the investors who funded them call it/themselves has seemingly sullied their own reputation beyond repair.
Given that, there’s no way will this ever make it onto any device in my household.
I don’t care what it does or doesn’t do, I no longer need evidence nor do I need a lack there of, I don’t need guilt and I don’t need innocence, I most certainly don’t need it’s dev’s and associates giving blind advocacy from behind avatars in a computer game.
I’ve seen more than enough to stay well away.
Their foot, their bullet.
