WoW sent me to a fake blizzard site after downloading Overwolf

You have to save and get yourself out of debt. Make sure that all your other expenses are paid off and plan for your long term financial goals. Live below your means, and make a hefty down payment. Minimum of 20% of its base value. Then work hard and you will earn it.

i’ve honestly never understood why people would use third party programs for their addons, it takes like 5 seconds to just install them yourself. and that way you don’t need to worry about any third party programs getting in the way.

you want the pictures of the ads in the hots overlay or the ads in the hearthstone overlay

If I were being totally paranoid, I’d ask whether its absolutely impossible that something you download from Curseforge couldn’t contain something bad? Likely, possibly not. But not completely impossible.

not impossible no, but if it slips past curseforge, then it can probably slip past overwatch etc as well. and your still removing that extra layer of complexity that “really” doesn’t do all that much for you.

like automatic updating is nice I guess, but unless you are running 20-30 addons it takes less than 10 minutes to update manually.

nothing against people who use the addon managers, just never understood it personally is all

these are from forum user rambush from the hots overlay:

I have found Twitch to do much of what I needed. I haven’t been able to confirm something about Overwolf, I heard somewhere that it remained active while you are in the game which I wouldn’t like. With Twitch, I could go watch a streamer but the downloader was separate and wasn’t active in my game. I’d like to know if Overwolf is a problem that way.

from what i hear, overwolf doesnt have a shutoff, you need to task manager it off

You can’t just make claims with zero evidence. I saw the same pop-up about the EULA changing and it never had anything to a website other than one that was official.

Not true, the first time you close it it will ask you how you want to close it. Matter of fact you can go into the settings and the first section is

"When I close CursedForge

  • Hide CurseForge
  • Exit CursedForge
  • Exit CursedForge and Overwolf"

I set mine to close both and I have confirmed in the task manager that both are closed when I exit.

Overwolf is needed as the curseforge app is written using the Overwolf framework. It’s needed to run similar to how you need Java or flash installed to run a Java file or flash file.

Off topic, but your name is great - a Gnome hunter called Kneeshooter. teehee!

Addons are the copyright of the addon authors so height Overwolf nor Blizzard can send any cease and desist letters anywhere.

When you quit it you can set it to quit both Overwolf and curseforge. If it’s not doing that for you even with the appropriate preference set then that’s a bug that should be logged with the Curseforge team (within Overwolf)

Use WoW-Up

Trust me, it’s WAY better and works the same as the Twitch app.

That is fine, just clearly up the misinformation before it continues to spread. Maybe if there was less of it around, more people would be willing to look beyond their past issues and give it a try.

I mean if you don’t like it, you uninstall it. It’s not like you are helping to give birth to Skynet

But if the add on creators sign an exclusive agreement with a company like Overwolf, wouldn’t that stop them from hosting their app anywhere else? So wouldn’t anyone trying to host those apps without either the creator’s or Overwolf’s permission be in contravention of the law of contract?

the ads alone are enough reason for me not to install it let alone the malware
