WoW Raiding vs FF14 Raiding

you have to know why it’s “gatekeeping”

  1. Raids cost money/reagents/feasts/potions. They can be a real money sink when you also add in repair bills and such for armor. So they expect you to bring your best so nobody lurks. Even in FF14 you have to have some expectation as you can do it.
  2. M+ keys are valuable too, and folks will do that as well (see 1.)

Even in FF14, you still have expectations, as someone mentioned to me that one can’t get carried. Though WoW’s mechanics, though RNG-based, can be countered if folks know what to do in said situation.

And why would someone pick that though?

It’s like well you have to understand hitting yourself with a hammer is part of the game.

But there’s a game over there that doesn’t have as much room for carrying as this game, and you don’t hit yourself with hammer.

It’s like why would you force yourself into a scarcity environment when you don’t have to? I get the artwork or the controls might be one thing; but why would the devs continue this way with design?

Ya know what I mean? I watched the video. I’m not a Mythic raider by any stretch. But the fact that your gear always remains relevant and no matter what you do if you step away it’s always relevant for where you’re at is a massive massive improvement.

Don’t forget that FFXIV players are also more sensitive towards being called out for underperforming. If they report you for criticizing them Square Enix just might ban you for it. So either you’re stuck carrying them or stuck looking for a new group.

Getting people banned for being toxic is a good thing. No need to put up with a bad neighbor.

Also smaller group size means less room for carrying. So…that’s not true because of numbers.

Trying to encourage someone to be better/improve isn’t being toxic. It’s ok to acknowledge when you’re not doing very good at something and thank those who might take the time to help you improve.

Ya but it’s never like that here in WoW.

Last I played I think I did a +2 and we timed it. First thing the Tank said was “gg, although DPS was trash” Funny how that’s not encouraging someone to improve but rather derogatory. I’d rather that guy get banned for that comment. And so far in FF while healing when I make a mistake I’ve only been asked “hey man you’re doing great, but here’s what I noticed.”

WoW players love to act like they’re “Tough Love” but they’re not. It’s just being a jerk because you can because it’s the wild west here.

Yep. Just telling someone they suck and git good isn’t what I’d call friendly helpful advice.

I’ve played both. Raiding in FF14 is way more simple and less advanced, don’t listen to people that claim FF14 raiding is like “how wow used to be” because the itemisation is not nearly on the same level, it’s far more straightforward and bland in FF14 with there being practically no point to get gear because the max upgrade is like 10 item levels with no real power difference - and that’s also for only as long as that the tome gear doesn’t get an upgrade path to be on the same item level which it does every single time.

Gearing in FF14 doesn’t matter because it doesn’t matter for any other content, and certainly not pvp because pvp is one of the worst aspects of FF14 in that it’s just plain bad.

In old WoW you felt every upgrade, and it mattered. The itemisation was also less boring with on equip effects, set bonuses and things like trinkets and crafted enhancements to gear.

People can be passive aggressive, and it’s generally better to just remove and outright ghost people, but that is still far better than how aggressively runaway WoW’s toxicity can get.

Ignore lists don’t help new players getting trashed in low level dungeons.

That’s WoWish for “Listen dude you should do X and Y not what you’re doing”.

I mean literally people think that’s good advice and it’s like uhhh wut?

And they’ll say they’re justified being a creep because what they’re saying is true.

Yep exactly. It’s like when people say–“What, show me where I’m wrong” It’s not about if you’re right or wrong you’re still being a jerk that’s the point. You’re lacking couth and emotional IQ.

Trying to get people banned because they say something you don’t like is just as much a jerk move as telling someone new they suck without offering any constructive feedback.

Let’s also not forget that there are a number of players in wow (and I’m sure in FFXIV) who have no desire to ever improve and simply join pugs to get carried/troll. Those players, who’ve existed since classic, are partially to blame for how people respond to bad players in pugs now.

Why can’t you people come up with your own thoughts?

Like, don’t share someone’s video without any critical thought of your own like some brainless muppet. Talk about your views on it first, then after you’ve talked about your thoughts, share the video.

This isn’t Twitter or Reddit.

I don’t think they’re the same thing in this instance at all. If someone was rude, ya they should get a ban, they do it often enough ban em permanently. I think the trouble is we’re way to lenient on these things and WoW probably would be a better community if the GMs started banning for being rude, and dismissive of others.

Getting people removed from the game that are toxic before they ruin another player’s experience is not a jerk move at all.

Never played FFXIV for long, only I thnk to the 30s or so back in ARR. I also have no issues with the game outside of people pushing it here really, and that’s not really FF’s fault to be fair.

But I’ll say simply the idea of having tight DPS checks in a game with no(…allowed) DPS meter and thus the ability to find what’s going wrong and what to fix where the solution sounds like “dissolve the group and try again” just sounds…really bad. Like super mega horrible design bad.

I guess the only counter to that is that groups sound easier to find since they’re basically all queue’d…? Maybe combined with lack of trash so starting over isn’t as bad helps too?

But still though. Eww.

Note: I at no point encourage bashing people for performance. I have my meters and use them as a tool. I don’t even care about comparing myself except to other people playing my class/spec really. Or to get a general concept of performance for a given role kind of thing. Bashing = bad.

that sounds like a real hoot in a game where running a dps meter can get you banned. why are we wiping repeatedly? who knows!

No, DPS addon cannot get you banned. Using DPS addons as a bully tool gets you banned. You stay hushed about it and your fine. If you use it to measure yourself then by all means go for it. But the moment you use it trash someone is when you should expect a suspension.

You decided to link a video but instead of linking the actual video you decide to link a reaction video, that’s low.
