same issue with both retail and classic wow. adding -d3d11 works but sucks to lose out on dx12. ray tracing actually runs extremely well in both versions of wow on amd hardware.
I donât want to negate anybodyâs issue if itâs not working but I do have two machines with AMD gpus where it is working with the -d3d11 command in settings (post 4). 12700KF 7800XT in Windows 10, 12900KF 7900XTX (installed fresh today) Windows 11 with the workaround. Both I used the minimal driver, if that helps anyone thatâs my experience.
this just worked for me. at least on classic. i havenât tried retail yet. i removed the dx11 launch command, went back into the game, switched it back to dx12, and after about almost two minutes, the game came back and now dx12 is working.
well⌠it was working yesterday. then they uploaded SoD- the reason i made sure it was working and today it isnât.
good job, blizz. go chase some more skirts at the office instead of doing your job
This is shader/PSO pre-warming of some sort; if you run procmon you can see WoW writing to the AMD shader cache while stalled. I suspect changes in game client, driver revision, and graphics settings can cause this. Very weird to block on load, though, I wonder if this is internal to the driver. Will bug the dev team today.
Have the same problem with system #2 that has a 12700k + 7800xt hellhound. Its been crashing ever since I got the card (2 weeks ago) in the Amirdrassil raid and Everbloom but mostly Dawn of the Infinite instances to the point I had to run to my other PC downstairs with the 13900k + 7900xt reference just so that I wouldnât brick my guildâs key. Will try the DX11 workaround and report back here.
hi, i just want to say i have the same problem of pc freezing, black screen, amd adrenalin restarts etc etc etc
mostly playing solo shuffle, and even on directx 11, after a clean instal of windows 10
and its getting worse, i got âblack screenâ 2 times in solo shufle, lost rate and etc.
the âbestâ thing im doing in the moment is play in window, because with this, at least all the pc dont âfreeze/black screenâ and become irresponsive, i need to shutdown on power supply button and restart over.
its already 3 months and a solution was not found, but i need to say this things continue. im using amd CPU and GPU ( 7800xt )
this happens with the game âexcidiusâ too, so its not just WoW, when i play other games, nothing happens. but when i play wow, on directx11 become stable for 2 weeks, and now, crashing and treshing again.
This is still an issue! I have 7800XT and direct x 12 still crashes the AMD driver. at this point the game wont launch at all unless you switch to 11 before launching the game.
I have a NVIDIA GTX 1080ti and have had no issues with launching WOTLK Classic until two days ago. Now the game never launches. Just shows âgame is playingâ but play button is clickable. I did the -d3d11 and nothing changed. The only fix is scan and repair but it takes about 24 hours to complete so Iâm not doing that. Game is unplayable and I just paid for a 6 month sub. Refund inc if there is no fix at this time. Very frustrated as someone who has played on and off ever expansion since BC was retail. Thousands of dollars spent to have customers unable to even launch the game due to spaghetti code. Fix it!
Yep get this issue too. 5800x, 7900xt, Seasonic platinum 750watt psu, 64 gigs 3600 ram. Seems to happen (black screen and freeze, sometimes crash but sometimes manages to recover but still report the issue) in caves only so far for me which is weird. Did not happen with my prior gfx card (6700xt).
EDIT: Also occurred in Dawn of the Infinite: Murozondâs Rise when fighting the light eels.
TLDR - it might be your antivirus reacting to a testfix by Blizzard but you can still play after switching to another antivirus provider or riding bare back.
