WoW Not Launching from BattleNet

I have had this issue of the game refusing to load up or taking 5-10 mins after pressing play to even open the game.

I have reinstalled the game this morning and after the server downtime, it has my computer trying to load something, but shows nothing in my tasks master file that wow is trying to load up.

I have removed every add-on from the add-on file. I have reinstalled. I have clicked the cog-wheel, selected game settings, and clicked reset in-game options. I have deleted the cache in the folders.

This is happening every single day. I am very frustrated with your product for how long it takes for anything to load. What can I do to resolve this so it cannot happen again?

it has a problem with dx12 so boot up in dx11 by adding -d3d11

can you provide a way to do that?

on the launcher, click the gear → game settings → click the 'Additional command line arguments → in the field put in “-d3d11” (without quotations) and hit done. Should launch after that but using DX11 vs DX12

I had the same issue too. Try “scan and repair” when done shut down your pc and wait 30 sec. then turn on pc. That solved the issue for me. hope this helps

Only this worked for me, yesterday the game was fine with dx12 but today the game just wont work with dx12 after the patch. It crashes before retrieving server list, with dx11 i can see the offline list just fine.

Edit: Amd card, but there was no driver update from yesterday to today, just the game update.

Out of curiousity, is this happening to both Nvidia and AMD cards?

I have amd and nothing is working, reinstalling now but adding -d3d11 isn’t working scan repair, fixes i looked up nothing. Stays on black screen with the circle cursor then errors out saying not responding, anyone have any other ideas?

Take it back now it loaded So one of these must have worked. thank you

The -d3d11 works without any scan/repair or restarting the PC.

Thanks, that worked. What a PITA!

7800x3d with 7900xtx.
igpu disabled in msi motherboard bios (had been causing some lighting issues previously on 10.1.7 live)

had previously walked through valdrakken on ptr with this machine with no problems but hadn’t done 10.2 ptr gameplay on this machine.

was blackscreening & getting microsoft “appears frozen” messages when i initially tried to launch from battle.net. restarted battle.net in admin mode and did scan+repair.

seems functional now. still running under dx12.

edit: battle.net in admin mode launched wow in admin mode, which meant discord couldn’t use push to talk without admin mode… so i rebooted outside admin mode & got a heavily delayed blackscreen entry, which loaded the game after about 45-60 seconds.

big thanks that fixed it. i should have known when the 10.2 ptr client did the same thing weeks ago. Did they upgrade to dx12?

for Blizz engineers:

this worked, more or less. Launch b-net in admin. scan & repair. re-launch b-net normally. wait on black screen for 90 seconds. game finally loaded.

I’ll try this. I got it working in DX11 but if I can get 12 back, that would be excellent. Frame rates are terrible in 11

Had this issue, this person’s suggestion fixed it immediately.

I would hit Play, game would open a black screen that after 10-30 seconds would turn white and state not responding so I could force close it. A scan and repair did not change the behavior.

Adding the argument it started up without issue.

Windows 10
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT driver Adrenalin 23.3.2

Yeah not an ideal situation. It takes like 90 seconds for the game to load with DX12 on an AMD, and then it works perfectly fine other than dragonriding mount going invisible (separate bug).

It’s either that or the DX11 workaround posted above, and dealing with a 50-75% FPS cut.

Worked for me, thank you!

AMD card here. Worked fine after the patch but got the black screen while playing and afterwards at every attempt to load game this am. Error scan did nothing. This solution worked perfect!
