WoW Killer: 2 words

Everquest died to:

Shadowlands (died)

Asheron’s Call (died)

Asheron’s Call 2 (did not even make it past beta, sadly)

Some other stuff I forgot

Then it finally actually only died to World of Warcraft. But it didn’t know it at first, lingering for a bit. Then it was sold off to that company that buys dead MMORPGS, so it still basically “exists” looking like the last time that SOE still updated it (as far as the underlying game engine.)

Wow has been pretty much the same. MMORPGS are just too hard to make AT ALL; Then it has to be good enough for the parent company to not pull the plug.

I was in Lord of the Rings Online, when I got tired of stagnating in Vanilla. I probably was not going to return to Wow again, since it was so bad.
Then I got an email for the Burning Crusade beta, knowing that I’d never return to Lord of the Rings Online (or Vanilla Wow, for that matter  ) So I played BC nearly up until it released, logging into Vanilla once more to get my affairs in order with what I knew.

Wow is an expansion making machine, at this level. A “rival” MMORPG maker can be planning to beat it, but they are only looking at the Wow of today; By the time they are even close to release, Wow is at least on one new expansion (sometimes two.)

Asheron’s Call and EQ launched only 6 months apart. It was not built to be an EQ killer, they were in parallel development and SOE just beat Turbine to the punch.

Don’t need a WOW killer to get away from that. All you need is a different game.

wow killer= World of Warcraft devs …

sorry had correct myself

WoW can’t die.

Its a living corpse that wants to die but Blizz won’t let it. Parading it around on marionettes like a shiny bauble for the unwashed masses to follow…forever.

NW has no PvE. and as of like, yesterday, it has no PvP either. they’re just going to release asap it to recoup losses

One of the mainstays of an mmo is art style. Even a game that looks like BDO will look fugly in a couple years. A game with a great art style on the other hand always looks at least “good.” Amazing art style > Amazing realism. But thats just regarding looks (which count for more than ppl will confess to).

On the other hand, WoW has one of the most powerful feeling attached to it for most of us…nostalgia. I for one dont really like mmo’s anymore, but i play WoW cuz i’ve been doing so since i was a kid. Stopping now would feel abnormal. Congarts blizz u got me hooked

I don’t know what that means.

Doubt it.

it looks nice but doubt it will hold up

No king rules forever, my son.

Yes, you’re right.

WoW Killer is in fact two words. Well done.

If anything can kill or eclipse WoW it will either be WoW Classic (and other Legacy Servers which we may got or a Classic+) OR FFXIV.

Well care to add some details to your dramatic thread entry! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Is in fact 4 words, but nice try! :kissing_heart:

Watching the gameplay and I almost thought it was a gameplay trailer for Ark. I doubt this is going to be anywhere near as popular as wow. The competition in MMOs are too vast now for any single game to dominate the market now. Why play this new game when ESO/FFXIV/SWTOR/WOW exist? There’s nothing aside from nice graphics. Amazon backing the game means absolutely nothing to me. Just means stockholders will care about revenue more than customer satisfaction.

Activision Blizzard.

If there’s anything we’ve learned recently it’s that even WoW(classic) couldn’t kill WoW. Though it does feel like Acti/Blizz is trying there hardest sometimes.
