WoW Killer: 2 words

I bet it’s just going to turn out like the rest of the MMO’s, either it starts off good but not as good as wow and just fall off from there or not starting off good at all.

The community

People seem to think remaking old content will save things. The “You think you do, but you don’t” fits for only one reason. Blizzard isn’t passionate about the players and remaking classic sure as hell isn’t going to change that.

“Fate has summoned you to the shores of Aeternum, the Eternal Isle. Overcome the brutal legions of The Corrupted and draw battle lines with competing players in this land of danger and opportunity. In a land hell-bent on your destruction, what will you do to survive? Strike out alone to forge your own heroic path, or band together, fortify, and fight.”

More corruption

It just lacks so much of what I want in an MMO: world building.

For starters there’s no varied races.

But what it’s missing even more is that the ENTIRE setting is an island covered in wilderness; assumedly lacking any cities or cultures.

The world just seems to be so very boring. Though i suppose I’ll need to see more details to have any real judgement.

i’d also like to mention the looting system looks so inconvenient. Game may look nice but mechanically I don’t think I want to play it. Gameplay is just running around hitting things with no abilities that I can take note of. Why exactly is this going to kill wow?

Vanguard Saga of Heroes is going to kill WoW also! You just wait!

I think the only mmo on the market that might cause an upset and that’s a heavy might is ashes of creation if it ever comes out

its been said a million times before. the only game that can kill wow is wow itself, and its being proven true this very expansion. Also, new world is open world, its like conan or rust. They aren’t even in the same category together.

Activision blizzard.

Activision beancounters

FFXIV is already just as big as WoW if you mean in terms of popularity anymore.

If you mean ending wow? Like the above poster said, only Blizzard can do that. WoW extends between too many generations for it to die for any other reason then mismanagement.

Out of all the “WoW killers” that have arrived on the mmo stage, this is the one actual game that can put an end to WoW if it really wants to…Amazon has the funds and ability to hire enough talent to dethrone any game they choose to go after. I don’t think you guys/gals understand just how much profit Amazon makes every quarter…Bezos could throw serious money into their gaming studio if he chose to.

New World is much more of a threat to those PvP-oriented action combat MMOs like Black Desert Online and maybe Guild Wars 2. Which is kind of a smart move because that niche is quite empty right now.

I don’t see anything in New World that could draw people from World of Warcraft, except maybe the world PvP crowd.

A survival type mmo is never going to kill a game like WoW, imo. It’s almost a different genre.

Two words:

Real Life

I will admit this game looks very interesting. I’m SUPER hyped to see a proper sandbox MMO coming to the modern market, I really hate that for more than a decade now the theme-park style MMO’s have completely dominated that part of the gaming industry, as I really dont think they support player creativity and immersion very well. I’m an old SW:G vet and fondly remember my time there helping my fellow imperials build entire cities and create content that supported the server’s activity.

One thing that also helps is that this is not a known IP. When you go into a star wars game, or a warcraft game, or a star trek game, or an elder scrolls game… you have expectations about what the world should be like, and often the game doesnt live up to those expectations as well as we would like. When you’re going into a completely new IP, everything is a discovery, and it really draws you in and makes you want to learn more about every feature of this new world (forgive the play on words) because it’s all new and unknown. I think that also really helps with immersion and involvement in the game’s details rather than settling into just skipping text/speech and grinding away at the chores the game gives you.

I will definitely be following new world’s development to see if it’s something worth my time.

I thought Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning already killed WoW. Or maybe it was Age of Conan? Perhaps Tabula Rasa?

I played the New World beta for a bit, it’s not even in the same league as WoW. It’s much closer to RUST or 7 Days to Die. You need a clan to be able to do anything interesting, and it is mainly open world PvP focused. Lot of griefing a-holes too…

Happy to. Amazon introduced major changes recently that help make the game more digestible. The game is beautiful, and encourages a vast, open world…including open world PvP. The only safe zones in the entire, massive universe are the town areas. Once you step out, it’s open free-for-all.

It’s not uncommon to be a level nothing and run into a horde of +10 your level. It takes a lot of time and effort to gather resources, fight critters, etc. All just to move forward in the available quests and story…only to be faced with 20 people who simply don’t care. You face the mob of 20, quickly die, and quickly lose everything the worked to obtain. Anything on your person is immediately looted and you’re set back hours of progression.

I thought Wildstar was the WoW killer because it pandered to the hardcore crowd.
