Well, yeah, that’s kind of the appeal at this point. I don’t really play WoW for an engaging non-linear storyline with deep RPG mechanics that make me feel fully immersed in the world, I play it because the instanced content with friends is fun.
Like, yeah, I can understand that’s it’s sad that it got to this point, but it is what it is, the game evolved to meet the demands of the consumers.
tbh I think Diablo 4 will do just fine cause it appeals to a different type of gamer. And the liklihood of another mmorpg surpassing WoW after all this time and numerous attempts is incredibly slim. If they knew how to they’d have done it already!
They did it in Warcraft 3, and WoW is basically an extension of Warcraft 3!
The reason is there were worse things coming, IE the legion and the scourge, and sure enough in the story today there’s worse things that make the factions work together!
I feel like a lot of you folks would really like Warhammer fantasy, but this has been the game about orcs and humans teaming up since nearly the beginning. Warcraft 1 and 2 are the only ones that break this mold
After you play dnd with bored, super crotchety, THAC0 and 2E era dudes who just want to break the game, and you role play a kobold paladin slapping a demon baby and roll for dexterity and crit on that baby slap, the notion that a video game could fulfill the RP aspect kind of falls by the wayside.
i have yet to meet anyone on WOW (outside of convention) that RP and any attempt to do so by me is immediately label “freak”, But your comment is spot on and i love it so much i will make Tshirts and sell at the next WOW convention “WOW, Its a MMOAmusementpark”
But in all seriousness… it’s just evolving naturally. I would love to see the devs skip an expac and reward us with the fixes of everything they broke.
POE vs Diablo has been going on for a while. They are two VERY different mentalities even though they are both ARPGs. And the reason why POE of any form is beating D4 is because D4 has been … unimpressive. Once D4 sorts itself out maybe this will change. Well ok, IF it sorts itself out. I have uninstalled it and gone back to D3.
As for the WoW killer. LOL. Yes, that has been touted for the last two decades. EVERY release for a decade after WoW was given the expectations of being a WoW killer. And so far they’ve failed. About the only thing that will change this is if we get a VRMMORPG.
