We just had a 5,000-long thread from people who are massively inconvenienced by taking 2 extra minutes to get to a place now.

Even doing non raid stuff “back in the day” felt infinitely better than facerolling your way past most of the content with easy gear and catch up mechanics.
Agreed can’t wat for Classic to come and save WoW.
One of far too many over the last 5 years. Populated by largely the same people.
Well I played it, and after they saw that they went too hardcore with it(the attunement was atrocious) they made a lot of changes that improved that aspect of their game, which that article fails to mention(or at least the quoted part). But unfortunately, because of what I had already listed, players didn’t come back or pick up the game enough to make it last. Hardcore didn’t kill it, the hype and negativity train did.
You’re right. It is unpopular. Vanilla is on its way. Go have fun grinding there.
I wasn’t around after any changes, mostly because it became impossible for my computer at the time to play it. While I could play WoW with no issues, even at the lowest settings I was hit with huge lag and latency. Not sure what they did but in the end I had to stop.
What “grinding”? Like azurite or artifact power grinding?
Boar butts, deer hooves, the resistance gear, and everything else in Vanilla. Azrite power and all that is nothing compared to Vanilla–so I heard. I have no interest in it, however, so. Those azerite grinds and all are apparently what people who seek the ‘old days’ wanted. Make everything harder to b ‘fun’. Which has oddly gotten the game in a bad spot. Hmm…
So you heard
Considering I don’t have any interest in an old version of this game, yep. Hear it from vanilla addicts all the time.
I never said it didn’t exist (though resist gear farming is a bit of a stretch as you actually have to run instances or craft to get those), my point was that they had to invent grinding, and at end game, to pad out retail. Which, by the way, we didn’t “grind” at end game aside from reps (which weren’t required).
I’m not saying retail is perfect either. In fact, it’s in a terrible state right now, in my opinion. I enjoyed Legion and the fun I had within it. But in terms of ‘going back to being like Vanilla’? Hard pass. Those obsessed with nostalgia can go play Vanilla.
On the basis of “grinding”?
I get that people would rather do the EZ gearing and 1 raid, end game only gameplay, you go enjoy retail. I remember when people used to complain that WoW was “raid or die”. Now, to fix it, it’s only a raid…
The fact we had to run to the instance and lfm in the chat made fo a much more social environment
That is probably the single biggest thing WoW did wrong over the years.
The EZ gearing nonsense doesn’t reward anything meaningful like mythic titles or mounts. Hardcore can have mythic. You can’t gt onto an actual raid team without maningful gear, so the ‘easy gear’ is just to be able to run base content. Plus, you apparently need to have a high IO score to do anything. I wouldn’t know, haven’t bothered much with content lately and just run my own groups when I want to.
I raided a lot more in Legion, haven’t touched this content at all. Just… not very fun theme or expansion for me. But making everything harder for the sake of being harder, is, in my opinion, unnecessary.
People don’t seem to understand that there’s more to the game than raiding. But BfA seems to just… put it all in raids and just that, with side content being tedious and pointless.
Lfr-lfg instantly killed whatever camaradery could develop.
To me old school grinding is this. I did the 3 quests in this zone and need to get 3 more levels. Lets go sit in the corner and kill the same 6 mobs over and over again. When they all die, we will sit here and wait for them to respawn so we can kill them again. Repeat for the next 2.5 levels or 4 days or so.
Thats what I am doing in EQ right now. Classic WoW wasnt quite as bad, but it was very similar.
I get what you are saying, but Mythic raiding isn’t for the casuals and even at times Heroic raiding neither. The only issue I have is the heroic raiding ilvl gear falling from the sky for doing little to nothing.
As for getting 39 others to raid in the upcoming Classic server, going to be very interesting. There likely won’t be many 40 man guilds raiding as I don’t think the server will be hopping as much as you think. In the beginning, sure. But give it 3-4 months and it will be dwindling down quickly.
The flip side for raiding though, I am willing to bet all the add-ons we use today like DBM, will have updates that will work with Classic which will make raiding a lot easier since it wasn’t around in Vanilla. I am willing to bet most people don’t know the actual fights since they just 1 shot everything in old raids when they farm for mogs, mounts and pets. I barely remember the fights in Naxx 40. Granted, we only cleared a little over half of it when it was current (cleared it and did weekly runs in BC in it but even with 40 70’s it wasn’t a walk in the park).
