WoW is no longer "worth the grind"

Try Valheim. It will entertain you for a while. It costs the same as a month worth of this terrible game.

It’s funny because I’ve unsubbed for similar reasons. Though, in my case, there’s way too much to do. The Anima grind burned me out, and the thought of having to do the same for every covenant and/or armor type is just too much for me to handle. I’ve been playing since Vanilla as well, though at the tail end of it. But, the never ending World Questing required to get cosmetics is insane.

Either way, I getchu. It’s possible that I’ll hear something about 9.1 that will cause me to resub. I won’t say I’ll be gone forever, because nobody’s getting my stuff.

Buuuuut, yeah, I’ve finally hit my breaking point. I’m literally blaming WoW for keeping me from playing anything else because I spent all my time grinding Anima. Though, I know in my head, I have only myself to blame. It’s a sad lesson learned.

^^ This right here

Yeah I think it IS the devs’ fault. But I agree that the magic is missing. And without the immersion in the story and the world, without a feeling of progressing through a heroic story, the grind is meaningless chores.

Grinding in Vanilla through WOTLK actually felt rewarding. Grinding in BFA and SL is just tiresome, unfun, and unfulfilling.

Same! Chomping at the bit for this. I’m leveling an Argonian Necro healer now for the trials and making sure my main is in top gear. With the double XP event running this weak I’ll have my healer ready easily.

That is completely okay! Sometimes a game doesn’t resonate with you anymore, and leaving is the right decision here.

I’m not leaving leaving, but I’m focusing on improving my vocals, so WoW is not really a priority anymore.

That is probably what the real issue is. Well and thinking about the fact that if you want to upgrade your legendary, you have to farm Torghast :confounded:

I think the most annoying part of the game right now is the fact that my main (ilvl 221) is wearing a pair of 203 shoulders she got off a world quest right after she turned 60. Every week I run every Mythic dungeon that drops shoulders and have not gotten a set.

have to do? why not…not do?

Yep, I went back to ESO as my main which sucks because I hate their cash shop practices with a passion but that evil permeates less into my gameplay than the stuff Blizz has done with WoW.

I haven’t been playing for very long, certainly not as long as some of your vet players, but I can tell you that from the perspective of a newish player with only 1 real expac under my belt…the game is just not fun.

There are SOME fun elements to it but the novelty quickly wears out. I LOVE the WoW aesthetics and the environments but the gameplay itself feels more…idk like calculative than anything that entices fun.

I logon to my character and portal to oribos and all I see is a handful of players standing or jumping around waiting for Q’s to fill. Like, if THIS is the game that WoW is and has been then I just don’t see how it’s as popular as it is and I see that fading quickly in the future. Not to mention, the gameplay loop is just so tedious and boring. Like, the same content over and over and over but the content itself is just not fun.

Those of us that don’t have thousands of hours invested don’t feel that same sunk cost fallacy many of you feel and so separating from the product is infinitely easier.

It’s a shame too though like, I can see so much damn potential but it’s just muddied by what feels like removed RPG elements in lieu of mechanics that extend time just to extend it versus extending it organically because it’s fun.

I think last night was the final nail in the proverbial coffin for me, my now ex guild needed extra DPS for a heroic CN they were doing and I said if you absolutely need help I can try but I had 1.) never ran CN before certainly not heroic and was ilvl174…I warned them my DPS was like 1.25k.

The first thing that’s said to me when I portal to them and we clear the first trash is “wait you’re a fire mage why are you venthyr and not night fae…” then proceeded to get yelled at for not following all 100 mechanics that were verbally thrown at me last minute…all while I was just trying to help the guild that was understaffed.

It was the first time I genuinely felt like yep, this game is all about the % and numbers and not about the RPG experience. and the community is garbage. I left the guild and quite frankly, just little moments like that was enough to make me want to leave the game.

I’m still subbed but def have shifted my limited time over to ESO instead. This game just misses the mark on so much it’s really sad to see.

Agree OP. The time investment vs. reward is out of whack in retail. It makes more sense for professional players like streamers, Youtubers, world firsters with sponsors, carry/boost sellers, etc. than for casual players.

Iow, if you get paid to play the game, retail is the game for you.

Can‘t wait to play reaper

And ESO has its new chapter coming out with the new companion system. So all 3 games have a bright future.

I watch some of Asmongolds youtube content and he said something one time that I thought was an apt description of us current vanilla players that have really seen WoW change over the years.

It was something along the lines of: "You don’t want to leave WoW but it ends up leaving you."

I’ve quit (two months left on sub) and moved onto other games as well. Shadowlands is shallow…lands XD (heh)

Anywho, Happy Gaming everyone!

But like I said earlier, even for us newer players who don’t have 17 years under our belts, the game just isn’t fun right now.

It feels hollow.

But numbers the devs look at say that you are having fun and lots of it. You just don’t realize it. lol

It’s been headed towards longer grinds for less rewards for a while. I’m not surprised this is the breaking point for some. There’s a number of things that I would’ve done in the past but hardly bother with now. I was a bit of a completionist for a while. Fewer things seem to be worth doing, or they get to the point where they are so un-fun that I don’t even want to bother even if I want the rewards.

shrugs I guess I’m having fun then?

The devs just love confirmation bias. They funnel us into a direction that confirms their narratives and then come back to us and say “AHA! See, everyone loves it!”…

Congrats on getting 8/9 of the Duty-bound set! (I have been stuck at 4/9 on my Necrolord Warlock despite doing everything available every day.) Did you get your 9th piece yet?

By the way, did you only get armor pieces from world quests in Maldraxxus and calling turn-ins, or do you think that they could also drop from daily quests such as the 2 anima conductor dailies? (NPC says you get them from doing “tasks”, so I have been doing anima conductor quests, too, just in case, but they are extremely time-consuming.)
