Wow is dead lets all go play FF14 lets go bois until change

I hate Dark Souls and Dark Souls-type games. If I wanted to smash my face against a wall I’d just do that. lol.

You don’t lose levels in FFXIV. That was 1.0. The games has long been rebooted into something else.

Even then as an Rper I do not think the game has much to offer me.

iirc that’s not necessarily true for the franchise as a whole. Some games serve as direct sequels. Others borrow many elements from prior entries. Some exist only to get you invested in the aesthetic of the universe so you’re hyped enough to see more games even if they’re not narratively linked. And, as far as the MMO is concerned, it actually borrows a lot from many of the games that came before it.

There are hundreds of reasons why someone would become invested in later entries after playing the earlier entries even if those two groups aren’t bound together by a neat narrative.

The only direct sequel that comes to my mind that’s an actual “FF” game is X-2. Everything else I believe is it’s own universe. Now I’m not sure if that applies to anything prior to Tactics. But every FF game as far as I’m aware stands by itself.

The only shared universe I should correct myself is in the KH series. They’re all mixed in there.

13 had two sequels and I believe Tactics Advance had one.

there’s only a small number of these that do this. X-2, the 13 sequels and maybe 12/tactics, and my point was that other than those games, you don’t have to play any of the other installments to understand the others. theres nothing in 8 that you need to know to play 9, nothing in 7 connected to 8, or 6, or any of the others. they’re different games entirely, in different worlds with different characters. and theres absolutely nothing in ANY of the other games that you need to know to play 14

they are changing tho… women into fruit

This is true from a plot sense. I guess my feeling is that you don’t really need to have a consistent plotline in order to get invested in the universe as a whole.

As an example, the one and only FF game I ever played was Tactics: War of the Lions. Even though FF14 doesn’t exist in the same continuity as Tactics (or maybe it does, hell if I know) I’m far more likely to try out FF14 than a newbie who’s only ever played WoW. I’d at least feel comfortable with the familiar elements like dark knights, dragoons, and chocobos. These are elements that cross over between games, even when the plots are wildly different.

Similarly, someone who religiously played 1-13 would be more inclined to try out FF14 than I would be, because they’re significantly more invested in the universe than I am.

Look IMO until Covid is dealt with you have no right to be mad about that because there are much bigger things in the world to be mad about.

Eso is a great game but not the best MMO that’s out there, certainly.

It’s very fun; I play it regularly and I actively subscribe to it for the rewards but it doesn’t require a sub so it’s a good game to purchase and have in your back pocket when you get bored of WoW.

Frequent content updates and functional expansions each year that are smaller scale than WoW expansions, but by far have more content and less “system” based gameplay. You pick your class, you level up, you build your character, and that’s about it. The professions are genuinely amazing and have some very unique rewards. Their version of archaeology is like a special mini-game that can kill a few hours if you’re just looking to pass the time.

The in-game store is much more filled out than WoW but you can’t buy gold or boosts. Everything is just vanity or cosmetic, but you can also buy player housing that way. Subscribing each month gives you some crowns to spend on the store so you don’t have to actively purchase anything.

Last time I played, I spent like 12 hours (not in a row, mind you) grinding out a cool outfit, dyed it, made my character look great, and took a break. Well worth the time I spent.

You can also transmog your armor or collect/purchase outfits so you don’t have to worry about armor restrictions or class-only restrictions, for the most part.

It’s worth the purchase even if you don’t actively play it because, as I said, you can return to it whenever you want to.

Also, if you care at all about Elder Scrolls Lore, this game has loads of it and it’s genuinely a great game to roleplay in.

Final note; FFXIV is garbage. For me, anyway.

Have you tried Valheim?

true, but the guy i responded to thought that all of the games ran together in one long story which is what i was correcting, so none of it is really relevant to what i was commenting on lol

they really should have considered naming them all different things so people didn’t get so confused by it

That’s not really the takeaway I got when I read the phrase “I have no investments into the Final Fantasy series as a whole.” I don’t think he’s implying that he can’t follow some plotline that doesn’t exist, which is why I was saying “investment” doesn’t equal “consistent plotline.” But maybe we’re just interpreting in wildly different ways.

It’s a no-win scenario, really. The Pokemon games aren’t narratively linked, and aren’t numerically labeled, but the downside is you probably don’t know what the latest Pokemon game is off the top of your head.

At least with Final Fantasy a newbie can understand that we’re at 15 right now, so they won’t accidentally buy 10, 11, 12, or 13 thinking it’s the most recent entry in the series.

You don’t need to start a max exodus Norma Ray, just go.

I have not but I understand that it is a good game.

Nah. FF hasn’t been all that good since snes.

7 and Tactics were great, IMO.

I never played Tactics.
