And I wouldn’t change a thing. The internet is amazing.
Guild wars 2 is a pretty tight knit community as well and normally unless in private raid content etc they do not tolerate negative feedback about other players.
Yeah I have played a lot of GW2, forgot to include it!
a good way to beat a troll is when they start in being idiots you go all Mr. Spock on them logical and emotionless because nothing ruins their fun faster than not getting a rise of you
Just abuse em back. That’s what I do. Not that I get trolled often.
Sure but don’t shame players for doing low damage.
as others have pointed out, welcome to the internet. you need only post something on a youtube comment section which goes against the limited secure bubble beliefs of a commentor to see the online cesspool theorem of human evolution at work, or go on reddit, orplay any MMO which has a community wide chat window which is for ages 12+ to see this as well. outside of the MMOS designated for younger children I’ve never exactly seen a MMO with a clean chat community outside of maybe Marvel heroes Omega which I tried for a month or two (DCUO would even have whole ghettos of people cussing and throwing racial slurs for losing individual PVP matches outside of open world social areas and centralized player locations).
Wow was just as toxic before lfg. In my experience people actually got a little bit nicer after LFG, less cranky people who sat around for two hours trying to get a group together.
This seems to be the best course, I opt for saying the most hateful stuff and get voice banned, because chat functions are useless anyway, since pugging is impossible.
Heaven’s no, but offering advice on how to improve said damage is always welcome. Actual advice, not oh reroll to the Flavor of the Month class nonsense.
Yeah. I’m pretty laid back when it comes to general chat but there are times when it gets ridiculously awful with racist, sexist, homophobic garbage to the point where I feel I have to report and ignore some people.
WoW playerbase does not undertsand how toxic they are. They just say its the internet.
Some other mmorpgs are not like this in general (although some are worse).
Blizzard games have always attracted a type of trashy personality, unfortunately it will never change unless Blizzard heavily polices it, which will be never.
If it really bothers you, play FFXIV or ESO. Those games also have rude players, but its on a much lower scale.
Make your own groups?
For the rest just use ignore I would much rather make my own experience then have someone police me constantly.
I guess I am just the last of the free folk.
Its only weak people that get offended by a total strangers words on the internet.
Grow some skin people.
I miss WildStar (RIP WildStar). It had it’s idiots, but over all, it was the nicest and most helpful playerbase I’ve ever seen in any game.
I’ve played a lot of ESO and I can confirm that the player environment in that game is significantly more decent than in WoW. I suspect it has a lot to do with both the smaller player numbers and the megaserver structure of ESO - its easier to monitor and you get quicker punishments there. I’ve seen bad forum posts actioned almost immediately and bans imposed by moderators. And ingame you rarely see abusive behaviour or language because of the prompt response received.
It seems that the bigger the pond the dirtier it can get. Which is a shame because it just breeds more of the same.
And yet people wonder why so many players play solo and avoid group content where a player is in charge.
It’s because so many of you are flat-out nauseatingly mean. It’s that simple.
Multiplayer games with strangers is a different ballgame than a single player game or a multiplayer game with friends only. A game like WoW, where you encounter many strangers on a constant basis requires you to learn to take some forms of abuse. You’re going to encounter players that you don’t like, don’t get along with, and simply cannot play with, you cannot get away from this fact no matter how hard you try.
You have one of three options in a game like this:
1.) ignore the whole population, do not allow any chats, play 100% single player and do absolutely no group content ever.
2.) find like-minded players that you feel comfortable around and can enjoy the game with and only play with them.
3.) play with like-minded players and random strangers in group content. Using this option will require you to learn to take criticism, whether it’s constructive or just flat out abuse.
This may sound harsh but it’s the reality of playing online games. If you feel that someone has broken a rule, whether it be in-game or on the forum, then please do report them. Blizzard does need our help to clean up the game and to help enforce the rules. You’ll never be able to escape all the horrible people in a game like this though.
Is it weird how the nasty mean people always seem to be the ones in groups and established guilds while the nice guys are the ones no one wants to hang out with?
Makes you think.
anonymity on the internet where being a jerk has little chance of consequence since odds are tomorrow youll never see that person again
