WoW freezes and crashing computer after yesterday

I have been playing fine until the update yesterday. I also happened to download shadowlands yesterday. My biggest problems are in BGs and instances. I’ve turned down my settings to the lowest, deleted my interface, wtf and cache folders. Nothing has helped. I’m really unhappy. I have a brand new mac. I just started playing a few days ago after 7 years when I played on a piece of crap and never had this kind of grief.

It not only freezes up, my entire screen freaks out and then it crashes my computer in a way i’ve never seen before. I don’t know if this is damaging my computer in anyway.

Is anyone else having these issues since yesterday? Or is it because of shadowlands.

We already have a thread for this from you. Please do not post duplicate threads. Locking and redirecting to the thread Azraggo posted earlier.

Edited: Made a mistake locking this up. Sorry for the confusion! Unlocked.

Okay, I have ONE post in the last EIGHT YEARS and it got locked? I placed a ticket for help and under that it said ask the community for help and I did. I made one post and it has been locked. Really disgruntled player who is trying to give wow a second shot after a long time. Do not appreciate being locked out when I ask one question, one time.

As you can see, there is ONE topic from me.

Canre,

Sorry about that! I mistook you from the poster on the other thread. Things are kind of busy here and I overlooked that you were a different person. Let me unlock this for you, merge the posts, and we can get working on your issue here. Just a sec and I’ll get a reply for you.

Hey again Canre,

Okay, now that the thread is back open, system level crashes usually are far beyond what we can cause as a game engine. We’re pretty limited in how much we can help with system level crashes, and we don’t have a ton of reports of things like this, but let’s take a quick peek and see what we can see.

Typically when I see that, there’s something wrong with a driver you’re running, or the hardware in your mac. First and foremost, let’s make sure your mac is completely up to date. This will get you all the latest drivers.

Beyond that, we may be looking at a security issue. Are you running any third party security? If so, let’s temporarily uninstall those. They may be quarantining some of our files and breaking things, and they’re also some of the only things that can cause issues at the kernel level.

If that fails, can you get me information on your mac from your system profiler? I don’t need the whole file, but I need the quick summary on your mac from the system profiler menu including your mac model, year, and cpu.

Note: I’m out for the night, but I’m going to leave you with this information. If the things I mentioned earlier didn’t help, do a quick run through that article while you wait. I’ll check this thread out tomorrow when I come back in and we can see if we find anything else, if nobody else drops in while I’m away.

Best of luck, and sorry again about that mixup!

Thank you very much! Sorry I was being snarky lol. I’m just very confused and frustrated. I’ve been trying to figure this out for several hours now. My mac does seem to be up to date. There are no available updates for the OS i’m running. I am, however, running a lower-end OS (High sierra) which is 10.13.6 which meets the minimum requirements.

I do not have any third party security running. Like I said, I’ve been playing just fine up until yesterday. I did some of the same BGs and instances that I’ve done the last couple of days, so I’m not sure why all of a sudden this is happening now.

The only changes that happened are:

  1. I installed shadowlands yesterday during maintenance.
  2. I played classic WoW while the servers were down
  3. I installed wowup to manage my classic addons.
  • I have no idea if any of these things had something to do with it.

Here is some more info on my computer:
System model name: MacBookPro14,1 (Mac-B4831CEBD52A0C4C) - MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

Model: MacBookPro14,1, BootROM 428.0.0.0.0, 2 processors, Intel Core i5, 2.3 GHz, 8 GB, SMC 2.43f6
Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB

edit: I uninstalled and have reinstalled and it seems to maybe be working. I’ll try it again later to know for sure. I wonder if installing shadowlands during the patch update freaked it out somehow.

Good sir,
When I posted the link to the other thread I did not have a keyboard on my phone showing for me.
They were so fast by the time I got to edit the post and had a keyboard they locked the thread.

Glad you got it worked out.
Sorry for all the mess.

Well, it did seem to be better but within a minute of my first BG today it happened again.
I do keep getting this error when I turn my computer back on: CommandLine Parse Error: psn_0_40970(0): Invalid argument: psn_0_40970

I’m going to update my OS and see if that helps. I’ve not really wanted to do that because the new OS doesn’t run older 32 bit programs that I use but oh well. I’ll let you know if that fixes it.

what really confuses me is that everything worked fine. I’m playing the same BGs, the same instances and now it is having problems. I wouldn’t have bought shadowlands if I didn’t think everything was fine.

No system crashes, but I am getting disconnects. I can log in to character but once I am in-game disconnect happens so fast I have no time to type or click.

Because I wait for the authors to release updates all addons have been turned off since the patch on Tuesday. I was able to play on Tuesday and Wednesday as normal. The disconnects only started today.

hey, been having the same issue on a 2016 macbook pro running the same version of high sierra. can’t even get past the battle for ardenweald if that as it crashes in combat, in high traffic zones, even just using infenal strike in oribos. reset everything, did all the usual. I’ve heard from a ticket that theyre working on a hotfix but it felt generic so it doesn’t fill me with confidence. Curious to know if anything you’ve done fixes it

Its literally just freezes my whole screen and I have to hold the power button on my computer and shut it completely down, it was working completely fine before 9.1 dropped so it isnt my computer or internet, my buddy has the same exact laptop as me and its working fine for him… They need to fix this or else I wont bother resubbing.

My experience as a long-time wow player and - on the other side of the fence - as forum moderator (different game’s fan site) and as a technical support analyst for a chunk of my career, is that the first response you get is gonna be boilerplate. Not because you’re getting the brush off. It’s because the people who actually fix things are busy and more or less they’ve told the CS reps - by established policy if not actual conversation - to leave them alone so they can get it done. So all the CS rep is able to tell you is “We know there’s a problem. We’re working on it.”

First week of a big content patch release there’s always more to fix than people to do it. Since we can’t do the metaphorical equivalent of go get lunch for the plumber we just have to take the boiler plate as a good sign and be patient.

EDIT:

The solution to the current problem is very likely different than in the previous situation. I’m only posting this here to point out that (a) the t-shirts who do the actual work do fix things even if it takes a while to figure out what the fix is, and (b) we’ve got ways to provide the information which will help them.

completely understand this but had to bring it up given how frustrating it is to be physically unable to play the only game i play, not even in old content or rp (which is a lot of what i do) and essentially just having to wait and see for an unclear amount of time. not to disparage the cs reps for the hard work they do it’s just personally frustrating.

(also i play on the eu servers and have a us account without shadowlands hence how i’m posting about it here to clarify)

I completely agree with you, Kesne, and feel frustrated as well. I’ve got three brand new characters made for a specific RP story arc that I can’t even start leveling, several other characters from lvl 45 - 50s to get maxed, and a 60 to gear up and unlock flying on.

I hope you didn’t interpret my post as belittling your experience. I wrote a general reminder to myself as well as everyone else who might be in the same situation - prompted by your post but not a direct reply. As the “mechanic” I’ve learned the hard way that customers sometimes don’t understand how long it takes to find a simple solution, and as a customer I’ve learned the hard way that certain types commentary slow down the process.

The way I look at it, we’re all in the same lifeboat, but at least we’re in the boat. I hope as much as you and the rest of the players that they find us soon.
