I keep trying FFXIV to see all the hype, but can never make it far. Don’t know why, but the aesthetics really don’t fit with me at all.
I’ve played FFXIV since beta, and no it’s not. I’ve done high end raiding through 3 expansions (Coils, Alexander, and Omega), and I can safely assure you; no it’s not. Final Fantasy XIV hasn’t been updated in 5 months, and the next patch won’t be implemented for another 2 months. This is mid expansion, and not end of expansion. The class design in that game is horrible. Their philosophy is: When in doubt, add another button. This leads to classes like Dragoon and Summoner having 30-to 70 (yes you’re reading this right) button openers. That bundled with the absurd server delays along with a GCD that is quite literally triple what WoW’s is leads to very slow paced, crowded gameplay. And you want to talk about WoW’s balancing being bad, at least Blizzard actively balances their game. Yoshi P did an interview a couple of months ago where he was asked about tank balance and he said “We’ll start balancing the tanks next expansion.” That is a year away. The game is in its worst content droubt ever, and it’s quite literally dying. For proof of that: The game during peak hours has about 2k viewers on Twitch. WoW in its low time has about 30k to put that in perspective. Don’t get me wrong, it does some things well. Its quality of life is infinitely better than WoW’s, both with flying and glamour. It’s home base system is something I wish WoW would consider. But its gameplay, and development cycle are atrocious and I won’t entertain the idea that WoW doesn’t do either of these things better.
That’s purely subjective man. Videogames are for fun and play which one you have more fun with. As someone who likes casual/semi-competitive PvP in MMORPGs FF14 is awful in that regards. WoW PvP at its worst is still 10x better than 14 end-game PvP.
People have different tastes and thus will enjoy different games. If you like 14 more go play it, I don’t know why people don’t understand this.
Is that the Cloud guy? I seen the two movies. Liked them both… and I was told I was wrong for liking the one about Spirits Within, or something like that.
FF just wouldn’t make sense to me except as a single player game. ESO is in the same boat. I play ESO, but each time I play it makes me want to go back to Morrowind instead.
FF1,6,10 and x2 were great. They play great on console and I enjoy the pace.
Warcraft with its RTS background feels more natural as a MMO.
There’s a fair bit about FF14 that people won’t like. The slower combat, leveling speed and lack of variety in quests are just a few that will be run into early. I doubt the smaller zones, and the lack of flight paths will go over well either.
Unless I’m missing something regarding the mount speed upgrades, that might be a problem too.
Yeah. But I will say the movies did just turn into a full anime mess.
I recommend the game though, it’s pretty good.
The grass is always greener on the other side. Most of the people who don’t play the game a lot are the ones who are praising it, because they are still casual. If they were hardcore in that game, like I once was, they would have just as many complaints about it, if not more, than WoW.
I liked spirits within. Thought it was a nice self contained story. Advent children on the other hand… I mean… I love FFVII. I’m one of those that got introduced to FF via VII, but heck… they could’ve done a better job of the story for Advent children. At most it felt like hashed together video game cut scenes with better graphics.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but as an actual movie? Unless you knew exactly who all the characters were… you’d be completely lost in what the hell was going on.
ESO is slightly getting worse every chapter and it makes me very sad
There are some pros and some cons comparing both… I think if you’re burned by WoW, XIV will be perceived as a superior game nevertheless.
But one thing XIV defeats WoW by a mile is the amount of features related to character customization. Plus, armor looks so much better thanks to the engine. Even a bunch set of different low level items look quite good compared to WoW’s low level armor sets.
This so much. I don’t think you guys understand what FFXIV’s end game is like:
You run 4 daily dungeons. That’s it, that’s the end game. The only other thing you can do is mythic raiding, and even then that consists of 4 bosses rather than wow’s 9-12 each tier. There’s single boss instance fights you can do, but the gear it drops is lower ilevel than the end game currency you get from dungeons or mythic raiding. Casually, FFXIV is fun, once you hit max level though, it’s not.
I completely disagree. FF is good don’t get me wrong but it feels like a less polished more clunky version of a solid MMO. It does have player housing if you like that type of thing which to me has always mostly been pointless and any game iv played with it iv tried to skip through as much of it as i could and rarely went back. player housing serves no purpose in my eyes but I know a lot of people like it. After that I really don’t find anything better in FF then in WoW, iv played it to level cap a good few times and just cant stick to the game.
Must not be very entertaining if even the WoW forums are better than the in-game content.
FF14 was fun but you didn’t have any other way to play except the abilities they gave you.
They lack talents. They removed the cross class abilities and made the classes a mold.
But i will say the fights are better in FF14. They are well thought out and they even teach you how to do the fight mid fight. There has been a miss on SOME bosses but you can’t win everytime.
Some people like it cause as you’re leveling its got that danger if pulling to many but at the same time you can SNEAK PAST MOBS if you walk behind them. They have lower aggro behind them and not magical back of the head eyes.
I liked spirits within. Thought it was a nice self contained story.
I just thought it was a cool sci-fi movie but fans of the franchise told me it was bad in relation to the rest.
Unless you knew exactly who all the characters were… you’d be completely lost in what the hell was going on.
I did get confused but I still enjoyed it. I’m one of those people that don’t know who anyone is.
You forgot to add in “Paid sponsorship”
It’s as it sounds. They brought Yasumi Matsuno, the game director and writer of all of the “Ivalice” content - FFT, Vagrant Story, and FFXII, and told him to write a story that incorporates the lore from that franchise into FFXIV as well as culminates in a raid tier.
AFAIK, the Lost Lands of Ivalice are discovered by scholars, and Ramza’s descendant, who looks like Ramza and is named Ramza because fan-service, is trying to uncover the mystery of the Zodiac Braves, knowing the truth has been buried in both myth and propaganda by the Church. There are various twists and turns and ultimately you fight a bunch of the Zodiac monsters (Argus for instance is still alive… somehow he got his hands on a Zodiac stone after his presumed death and has survived for thousands of years waiting for revenge) as well as face the Bloody Angel as the final boss of the raid tier.
They’ve got Vagrant Story references like Dullahan trash mobs in the raid and the overall darker vibe.
I just thought it was a cool sci-fi movie but fans of the franchise told me it was bad in relation to the rest.
I’m with you. I had fun watching it.
I did get confused but I still enjoyed it. I’m one of those people that don’t know who anyone is.
Yup, you can still enjoy it, but to say it was a good movie with a good plot is a bit of a stretch.
a better treatment of its playerbase over all. On top of that it gives the players so much freedom to do what they want.
that sounds like a game company worth giving our money to.
