If it werent for the anime feel to it, yeah.
ESO has a lot better everything other than races and the graphics are too ‘real’ compared to WoW.
WoW has just enough appeal to keep me playing as long as old content up thru Mists doesnt get any worse.
The coming leveling changes are a huge plus and most of what Im looking forward to with SL to begin with.
Admiral Merlwyb yelling “Seven hells!” in that scene is still one of my favorites.
lol FF14 has so many many flaws compared to WoW. You being new to the game is why it has a ‘lot’ of content. Someone new to WoW would also have a ‘lot’ of content to do.
In the end I admittedly was scratching my head when I saw someone actually believe/agree with Yoshida that 5.2 added a ‘ton of content’ so it was good that the patches content is timegated out for almost 2 months and that’s what it is, a timegate (the very thing many of these same people would kill Blizzard for) to draw out subs and, most likely, let them finish content that they probably are behind on developing just like how Eureka got delayed multiple times in SB. Now the tiny patch that is 5.3 managed to get delayed by 2 months and Eureka 2.0 won’t be till October at the earliest.
Outside Savage and the Extreme trial which most people serious about will complete in a couple weeks the majority of the patches content is either 1 time content completed in a few hours that most people will never touch again (the MSQ and regular trial), content that is a gimmick that will die out in a few weeks like BLU once people get the rewards (the ocean fishing), gimmicks that no one asked for that wasted some devs time (Umbrellas), or content that is similar to older content yet manages to feel even more soulless than normal (whoever thought of making a beast tribe centered around gathering is an idiot. It’s seriously just 4 minutes of flying and 1 minute of doing the quest since it’s not at all creative and since there are more battle classes it makes sense to have 2 battle beast tribes).
Even much of the ‘new’ content over the years wasn’t exactly that new and more just a re-skin of prior content. HoH for example was basically just Asian PotD with a new gimmick in a single button press item for the summons. At this point I just want to see the game release meaningful repeatable content which it doesn’t really have and for me personally I’d want to see more outdoor content rather than more instances so it’s content I can do while sitting in a 25 minute DPS queue. Maybe the outdoor relic zone when we get it 5 months from now (since, once again, said content will be timegated out 2 months after the initial patch) will be decent but it’ll of course just be another instance and I’m not going to get my hopes up that it’ll be much better than Eureka and I shouldn’t have to wait till we’re more than halfway through the expac for said content. Even Ishgard restoration is just an overly long grind that involves the same exact scrip crap we’ve been doing for years that’s overran with bots and will some time in the future possibly give housing that will be sucked up by a handful of people within 10 minutes.
Then we have 2 new half races that still can’t even wear helmets by the .2 patch. FF14’s races aren’t that creative to take this long to update helmets and there’s zero excuse for helmets new with the expac to not work on them. Also the fact that one of the 2 races can’t change their hairstyle without paying Square 5 dollars should be a big deal to the community along with the fact that there seems to be a new mount or glamour of the cash shop every week. If Blizzard did this the players would riot.
I like FF14 and admittedly I’m probably part of the problem for both WoW and FF14 since I keep a sub going with both games since I still somewhat enjoy both but I’m becoming disappointed in the constant issues I see both games having and am slowly playing both less and less (though it’s been great for my massive backlog of single player games).
This was my exact experience with GW2. I stopped playing WoW to play GW2 for about a year. I started to miss WoW and came back for good. Since then I’ve tried playing GW2 again and I just can’t get in to it. However, for most of the year I played it, I really liked it.
tbf, 5.3 got delayed by the COVID. But FF14 has never had a lot of content outside the initial expansion launches. It’s easy to play through the beginning when it launches, then take a break until the last patch and do everything then before the next expansion, but I’m mostly a solo player for FF14, so I’m only there for the narrative.
I think about it alot actually. So much done right. If pve was handled like Wow I wouldnt be here but unfortunately I really dont like fractals/raids/dungeons in gw2 and i hate the lack of a holy trinity.
But mount skills, wvwvw, armor dyes, legendary weapons, gliders, mastery system, pvp ugh SO GOOD.
I haven’t played Shadowbringers, I guess that’s new to me that you can conjure a Primal without faith.
I don’t like it. It reminds me what Warcraft did with the Light. You had to believe in a higher power in order to channel it. It wasn’t just something you could bend to your will if you were strong enough. We got the Blood Knights in Burning Crusade but their power was intended to be a direct perversion, a corrupt form of the Light, an “empty” form of the Light - they had to directly shackle a Holy being and pervert the power of it to use for their own. Now, “Dark Holy” is just a thing that can exist, you can just use the Light if you decide you want to. It’s homogenized into just another form of magic.
Final Fantasy already has tons of different forms of magical prowess. I hate that they’re just reducing Primals to any old regular form of magic with aether if that is indeed what they’ve done.
Yea I know i was because of COVID but FF14 patches are so small that it shouldn’t have been delayed by 2 months and it’s not like we’ll be seeing Eureka 2.0 next month and it’ll still be out 2 months later. In the end while COVID is the root cause the main issue is that Japanese companies were terrible at moving to working at home since they have such archaic business practices (like needing their QA be in office).
Ff14 was never a pvp game wasnt even in the game until stormbringers I dont feel the pvp in wow or ff14 is good theres way better mmos for pvp wows my favorite game off all time however I also haven’t stayed sub to it since halfway thru legion a few months here and there ff14 is where most of my guild went after 8.1 and the mess that is bfa. Both have positives and negatives wow retail is a mess currently the downsides would be mostly on the dev team and ff14 is bit to wordy sometimes.
Worgen still look awful wearing helmets and they’ve been in WoW how long? And how much bigger is the budget in WoW?
Least they can show helmets and many helmets do look good on them with the new models though obviously not all and that’s ok. And let’s not bring up money. Square is not a small indie company and makes just as much as Blizzard. Now if they don’t put as much money into their cashcow FF14 since they keep funneling the money FF14 makes into other projects that’s still Squares problem.
It’s more that Primals are just powerful summons. That’s what they’ve been driving at the whole way which doesn’t stray too far in the traditional Final Fantasy magic structure. It’s not surprising that the primals have, from what I’ve seen so far, all been summons from previous games.
I just couldn’t get use to their UI after WoW’s. Made healing feel so awkward. Oddly I had less trouble healing in FFXI which had almost no UI.
Also coming from FFXI the summons were so tiny and weird looking in FFXIV.
I usually start a new game by starting a new toon and jumping right into combat to see if I like it or not. Even at level 1 I can tell if it’s a game for me or not. Couldn’t do that with FF14. I was bored after 5 minutes of that starter RP crap.
It’s not a direct violation of the lore or a ret-con but it feels like it subverts the spirit of it. All of the previous Primals were essentially summoned by desperate people, cabals, cults, basically those in need or who had strong religious motivations.
Changing it to just be “well, these people just happened to collectively had a strong will”… it feels against the spirit.
And yes, I realize that changing the lore means that Primals are now more in line with most other Final Fantasy games where summoners could just use their strength of will to call on them, but it feels like it waters down the IP. I guess they’re leaning into FFXIV being compatible with any other Final Fantasy setting by dropping some of its unique lore elements.
Except where I took off about four years and won’t go back because I have no desire to a) go through all the story(and I mean ALL the story) or b) Play for a MSQ skip.
In fairness, at least female worgen in general looked absolutely godawful until recently
Still… The Viera/Hrothgar situation in FF is meme levels of terrible. Biggest letdown of the expansion so far tbh lmao
Yep, I went through the same FF14 is better than wow phase you are going through now. Get to 80 everything is awesome for a couple weeks, then you realize that the end game content basically boils down to running 30 minuets of A-rank hunt trains, raiding, and waiting on more story to come out. That was the point I returned to wow.
would be lame. I hate fan service, it feels patronizing and stupid 90% of the time
The combat is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too slow.
