Would you be upset if the retconned Shadowlands?

I think gameplay was okay. Far from the best WoW has had to offer, but fun at least.

Story wise it sucked, and the zones were barely memorable for me.

Arthas was turned into 35 anima, and Ner’zhul, who’s perhaps as iconic if not more so than Gul’dan, was turned into a raid boss. NOT a end of raid one mind you, but instead a early, easy raid boss where he just kind of dies and is in agony the entire time. Nothing else tops this bits in terms of sheer and utter disrespect to what came before, it feels like what Disney loves to do with legacy franchises. Be it Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi or Indiana Jones in Indy 5, trashing existing legacy to prop boring or unlikeable characters (Sylvanas, The Jailer) and for shock value and nothing more.

Ambitious? It retconned everything and gave us a wish. com version of Thanos/Darkseid, and The Jailer was nowhere near as memorable or interesting as Kil’Jaeden, Sargeras, The Lich King or even Freaking Garrosh. Danuser was and still is a talentless hack as far as i’m concerned, and i’m happy he’s gone.

Meltzen’s writing, while dumb at times, still had plenty of positives about it. Danuser’s writing had almost no redeemable features. Cata’s portrayal of Deathwing, Thrall being Green Jesus and more sucked, but that expac also gave plenty of good moments and stuff. Shadowlands had zero positives in its lore despiction, and the only potential positive you can mention (Denathrius) came with the Dreadlord retcon that makes no sense in the context of what we’ve seen before about dreadlords.

No really. We just want a game fun to play and worth the money we paid for it, and Shadowlands would still be awful even if it costed just 10 dollars. Everything from gameplay to story to writing to post-launch content was abysmal, with next to nothing positive. DF has its duds but its leagues ahead of SL and has many undeniable positives. As for TWW, we will see when expac is launched and the reaction to it.

I loved half the zones and the other half were completely forgettable for me.

The story could have been done better for sure. The Jailer and the way they played that out was not good. They needed more time to show us why he was the greatest threat to ever exist… instead of throwing him away after 1 1/2 years.

But, this seems like why TWW is going to a more prolonged drawn out story, because of the Jailer flub.

Because you clearly came to a thread and wanted to argue…

Read above, you came here to argue and nothing else… you can fake it and lie all you want. You had no reason to be here, you don’t wanna discuss the topic, you just want people to stop discussing it… you’re a :troll: that just wants to argue.

I mean besides discussing the topic and tackling a :troll: ??

I’d welcome it whether it was done well or poorly.

Especially anything to do with Arthas/Lich King and Burning Legion.

And the fact you can just casually walk around in the afterlife making death meaningless.

It’s only one step in the process they would need to undergo to make me give a remote crap about WoW’s story going forward.

My first post was adding to the thread. So, obviously that was my initial intention. You dragging me into an argument, one that you’ve been having with multiple people… is on you, not me.

Then why am I trying to add to the thread while you yourself are only arguing with people? Everyone has moved on, you’re still ranting and raving about stupid crap that doesn’t matter.

So before I was just being argumentative, but now I’ve evolved, now I’m also a Troll. Good to know. Either way, your posts aren’t going anywhere and you’re just being rude. If you want to stop arguing with people, by all means.

Yeah, the Arthas stuff was terrible. Who ever thought that was a good idea… bad, just bad.

Something that bothered me, that our souls representation in the afterlife is still a Forsaken, not a Human. In a few quests we can see Forsaken that have passed on, and for what ever reason, we still look like Forsaken. This always bothered me.

In MoP when we could see our ancestors, they didn’t look Forsaken, they looked Human, because that’s who we actually are. I don’t know, it just seemed really lazy on Blizzards end.

Reminds me of what Disney loves to do with any legacy franchise they get their hands on. Dump over what came before, whenever its Luke Skywalker or Indiana Jones, and prompt boring and unlikeable replacements that nobody asked for, and insert retcons that makes little sense when you think about it.

Pretty sure that someone with the pedigree (or lack thereof in this case) of Danuser would be home at Disney.

Blizzard would make good with Retconning all of shadowlands away. Danuser didn’t leave a single major character free from being butchered with godawful writing. Remember when Elune turned out to be a robot who let the night elves die for no reason? I do.

This is like accepting something like pineapple on pizza.

No. Can we retcon Cataclysm, while we’re at it?

can we retcon the creation of the real life universe

Not only Shadowlands retcons makes the wow story nigh-incomprehensible with massive plotholes, but The Jailer is probably the single worst WoW villain i’ve seen, and that’s really saying something. At least Deathwing left his mark on Azeroth with the cataclysm, even if he wasn’t that good of a villain in Cata.

For The Jailer to be accepted as he is, he NEEDS to have SOMETHING interesting, memorable or genuinely good about him, and there’s nothing at all. It’s like Danuser copy pasted a Darkseid/Thanos template and forgot to fill with it something that gave us a reason to actually care about him.

At no point he ever comes like a genuine threat, he has no personality to speak of, his plans are vague and make no sense (especially the “i was trying to prevent something worse” cliche, because his actions before that moment are at complete odds with that kind of motivation), he’s as generic as Generic Big Bads can get (his appearance after 9.1 raid in particular looks like those elites you find in the maw, so they couldn’t even be bothered to give him a good model/design to stand out), and despite being hyped as super powerful or something, he never actually does anything to warrant such a reputation in the first place. There are many one-off questing or dungeon villains that are far more interesting than he is. How do you expect people to accept a bland loser like him?

I swear if you were to make a wiki page or something about every plot hole or nonsense created by shadowlands, it would be a massive wall of text, far bigger than if you made a page of all the Classic-BFA and Dragonflight plotholes combined.

This is some really low effort trolling… you brought nothing and will continue to bring nothing to the table here, you’re a :troll: looking to argue and you found someone to argue with.

Yikes, are you 12? You’re embarrassing yourself. You joined a topic with ill-intent and trying to blame me for your ignorance and toxicity? Lol.

At least you’re acknowledging what you are.

Enjoy your L.

I don’t care about the plot holes, I just want Cata gone because it was BAD.

That is a hard choice there.

Which is the worse abomination?

Mr. Nipples. A voice so overengineered in audio post production it was laughable.

Pineapple…violates only sausage or pepperoni are acceptable toppings rules. Want fruits…get a fruit cup or something.

So torn.

Just treat the story like a wild fanfiction and you’ll enjoy a lot more

If we got rid of every expansion that was “bad” we would be left with what? Wrath, MoP and Legion?

That has a slight flaw.

I’ve seen better, non erp even, fanfiction in some peoples TRP profiles on moonguard.

Shadowlands triumphs Cata easily in sheer badness. Cata reworked many Vanilla questing zones that had almost no quests or were spread all over the place with tons of backtracking or having to move between 3-4 other zones just to complete the questchain (such as the legend of stalvan), the pre-Dragon Soul raids were generally good or at very least decent, the launch was pretty good when compared to future expansion launches (bugs notwithstanding). And hey, you can crap over Dragon Soul as much as you want, but 14 months of SoO back when MoP was current was x10 worse with the sheer amount of time wasting in that raid. And DS will never hit the rock bottom level of crap that’s Trial of the Grand Crusader, especially when you had to run it four times a week back in 2009.

I think a big reason a lot of people crap over Cata is the removal of the original ZG/ZA, the fact the Abyss Maw raid and Path of titans features were scrapped, and Dragon Soul raid tier. That and the fact it was compared with Wotlk, which came before Cata. But the expac had many positives, and even though the storyline was eyeroll inducing at times, there were many highlights about it. For instance, the Silverpine questline highlighting a rather noticeable moment where Sylvanas kept the end of her bargain, unlike her cartoonish BFA and SL selves.
