There have been many threads about getting kicked and serving 30 minutes penalty.
Would it reduce the complaints if the system gave the person who got kicked the reason. Therefore, no assumptions has to be made. Perhaps some would reflect and get better, and some would be justified in their claim of unfair treatment.
No and it would actually make them worse and there would be even more complaints. Do you really wanna see the reason you’re being kick such as “Bad tank” “Bad heals” or any other words that i can’t repeat here? Seeing such things would not only demoralize the person being kicked since you’re actually seeing the reason, the “unfair votekicking posts” would be even higher.
And it’s always the no post/low post count characters making posts about Deserter Debuff ![]()
I wonder why.
It could be someone coming back to the game, starting a new character, feeling good about that character and wanting to main swap, or all sorts of reasons.
If I had to guess based on the post, class and level, I’d guess that this poster is leveling through the 80s and maybe has experienced getting a deserter buff once or twice, is left wondering why, came to the forums and noticed some other posts about it, then proposed a question to the community.
Personally, I think that I would like this information, but considering that I have been removed 3 times in memory, for reasons that I think were pretty obvious:
- I went outside of the instance after joining because some others had left, and I started questing, but it filled up and I didn’t noticed.
- A tank left after a boss, and rather than sit around doing nothing, I assessed the group and misdirected a pack of mobs into the (paladin) healer. We were fine, but I can understand them vote kicking me for that.
- A tank said something cocky like “anyone who gives me attitude is getting vote kicked.” And I said “go for it.”
Keep in mind that I have leveled several characters and maxed out Justice Points in heroics more than 10 times on at least 2-3 of them, and those are the only times I have been vote kicked, as far as I recall at least.
Anyway, an opt-in voting or rating system with reviews for matchmaking purposes might also have its uses, but I have a hard time imagining that the current system is abused enough that it warrants any changes. Of course, there are always going to be outliers. If we have 10 million people flipping coins 100 times, some may well report getting the same result every one of those 100 times!

Mr. Williamferal, you are making an assumption. I have only been kicked couple of times out of hundreds of runs on different toons.
I am just suggesting this because I see many threads complaining about being kicked.
All those threads are from the same handful of people posting on alts. This whole “Vote kick issue” is not taken serious by anybody because it’s simply not an issue at all.
That’s a little disingenuous, don’t you think?
La de da, been playing for years, everything is going great!
OH NO! What’s this?! Why did i randomly load out of the dungeon and get a debuff?!? I’m going to go express myself on the forums, which I’ve never had to do before!
^^^^ Does that make sense?
Hottie… I’m sure even you can see that 90% of these “I’ve been kicked posts” are coming from the same person right?
Bro, not everybody lives on the forums. It’s not our identity, unlike a few others.
I bet the people with 30k posts all have hot wives, several girlfriends and billions of dollars, where as in the people with 10 posts are living in destitution and have to do “favors” to get ahead in life (no pun intended on that last part)
It’s extremely obvious it’s the same handful of people posting the, “Deserter Debuff Makes Me Ree, Pls Change” using alts to create a problem from nothing.
kinda sad tbh
I got kicked once for saying one thing in Instance chat, and that was to tell the BDK tank that he’s the only kick in the party, he should get the Heals on the packs in Throne of the Tides.
He didn’t reply, so I said it again in Spanish, as him and two others were all from a Benediction guild with a latin name.
10 seconds later I was back in Stormwind with deserter buff cause I got kicked.
I feel like being able to kick for whatever reason is an issue.
Just like reporting, there should be a dropdown box for why you want to kick. And I, having now been punished for 30 mins, should see that reason and get the opportunity to counter-report.
That harms absolutely nobody except those who abuse the system.
Why was I kicked!?
F gnomes
Lol undead rogue
Moooooooooooo
U mad?
Ugly skin
Body type 1 human gross
None of this feedback would help anyone.
It would not.
Let’s play it out…
See Jane play a druid.
See Jane do low dps on her druid
See Jane get kicked for low dps and the reason is, low dps.
See Jane run to the forums to complain that she was not doing low dps, but in fact she had a halo over her head because she was so good.
See Jane weave in the excuses it was RMT, Bots, GDKPs, Trump, Blizzard, Devs, low subscription fees in foreign countries, xenophobic rants or [Insert other nonsense reason here].
See Jane rotate alts in under Mary, Nancy, Johnny and Bobby all having similar stories on how they were robbed and ninja’d, but they were perfect golden wow players that did nothing but help orphans and nuns in their spare time.
Which would change, for you, absolutely nothing.
If the report feature had a dropdown list of acceptable reasons to kick someone, it would posit that there are unacceptable reasons. “I don’t like that I was told to kick a mechanic” would not be one, and thus the person kicked has a retort for having a half hour of their life wasted.
So, for those people, it would change how bad it feels to get kicked when it’s genuinely malicious.
It would change nothing for anyone who is being kicked or kicking.
The only thing it would change for the kickers is more time to select a reason.
The only thing it would change for the person being kicked is nothing - they’d still be mad.
There is no way for Blizzard to add all of the reasons why you would want to kick someone, and so now you’re left with people being kicked complaining that they didn’t do “x” or they did do “y” but because there is not a specific option for that, the kickers are forced to select the best fit and there we go… drama fest in the forums again.
People will still run to the forums to complain they were kicked all the while not telling the full story on what really happened.
I mean, kickers should have to have a reason.
And that should be enforceable.
The power of kicking for dumb reasons and making some other person’s activities be restricted for half an hour should absolutely be policed.
Blizzard wouldn’t have to “add all of the reasons why you would want to kick someone” because not any reason should be acceptable.
This isn’t even a new or unusual concept. Virtually every matchmade team play game does this.
So, you think that if someone is kicking for dumb reasons, they won’t just select a reason? Then what?
Let’s say they select low dps but you were doing average dps but you got kicked. Now what? What does this help? What does this fix? What are you going to do with this info?
It gives avenue for the person kicked to report for abuse of the kick system.
I am saying people who kick for non-gameplay or hostile behavior reasons should be reportable, and to do that there needs to be a system in place that also governs what is an acceptable kick reason.
I knew 100% this is where you were going.
Play well, don’t be toxic, don’t go afk, do your buffs, gems, enchants, glyphs, control your pets, don’t run into mobs, don’t pull for tanks, don’t need on loot you don’t need etc.
I’ve been kicked once – for mouthing off to a tank (who deserved it for taking short cuts that are not short cuts). I didn’t care one bit and was prepared for it. I just switched to my other alt.
Otherwise, I run 2 x alts each week and ZERO kicks (other than the one I just stated) above.
In fact, I’ve been running an experiment over the last 4 weeks. I have been running heroics with greens and a few blues on one of my alts. I have 4+ weeks of valor saved but have not purchased anything. My dps is low and I have yet to be booted for low DPS. In fact, everyone is doing 18K - 25K and i am running around 8 - 12K (it fluxs), stopping often to drink and not once have I been kicked.
No one has said one single thing or gave any indication they cared.
Cool, and if you’re just playing the game and not actively wiping your group or being basically toxic, you shouldn’t.
And if you do get kicked, and now can’t do what you wanted to do for 30 mins, and feel it was unfair, you should at least have some form of being able to have that reasoning held accountable or else be able to report the people who kicked you.
I posted earlier what my only kick in Cata was. I Don’t think it was big enough to make a post about, but it was certainly annoying and worth commenting on someone else’s that yeah maybe the system could use a more modern update to prevent the case of it being abused.
