Would fresh regular alongside HC be bad for business or smart?
I really want fresh Classic vanilla, but when is the right time for that? Would it make sense to open one or two alongside HC?

boot up Classic Era, select realm, create new character, enter world!

We basically had that until SoM transfers effectively destroyed that; because ERA was effectively 95% or more “fresh” characters.
there’s still 20+ Classic Era realms that are not free Xfer destinations PvP, PvE, & RP East and West

If this is the attitude then how do you escape the 3 month problem?
Get a fresh server, and in 3 months is a cesspool. What do you do about this?

Nothing. Three months in we’re all still on the same phase together.
The de-phasing of current era is what I dislike. Fully naxx geared players in BWL runs. Feels weird and cheap.
PVP is the same. It’s just no longer an even-footed community.
The cesspool will always be there, hell I contribute to the cess.

Was not really a thing on Era 4 months ago, those are mostly transfers from SoM.
Problem is Blizzard did not send them to their own server and allow us to keep ERA as “Fresh” because in practice it was. That really annoyed me, like a lot.
I started Era a few days ago on my warrior. The number of TFs I see in Org is insane.
I think there’s like 5-10 TF holders in Org afk at any given time. Almost makes me think I could get a TF myself.

The big problem with launching fresh right now is WotLK, honestly.
When wrath ends you’re going to get a whole bunch of people that want to continue to cata, and a whole bunch of people that would be willing to play FRESH vanilla again.
If you launch fresh vanilla now, we’re gonna be in the BWL/ZG phase by the time wrath ends.
Entirely speculation, but if I had to guess Blizz knows HC classic is an inherently unsustainable model and it’s meant to be more of a temporary distraction to buy time for ICC to come and go in wotlk classic, before launching a fresh vanilla realm along cataclysm (and that’s -=IF=- cata classic ends up happening… they’ve been doing surveys but I frankly don’t think it has the population backing)
EDIT the risk of course being that a fresh private server is going to steal market share. Turtle is already hitting 15k concurrent players. There where some big hopes for another private realm called sanctuary that was going to ban all chinese, vpns, and gdkps in addition to normal bot banning (which pservers are remarkably better at than blizzard). Sadly that project fell through

But I agree Classic could use development in the form of Classic+
I consider Vanilla and D2 to be in a similar camp: Great, but definitely ripe for improvements. They’re pursuing slight improvements in D2R. They should do the same for vanilla.

Aside from the fact that I have -zero- faith blizzard is even capable of designing new content for vanilla classic that won’t suck… you ALREADY have the problem that the game starts breaking by the late aq-naxx phases because of gear scaling. Further adding to that problem isn’t going to improve the game.
Also pservers figured out that the seasonal model actually works exceedingly well for vanilla, and you better believe that the day “fresh” launches, your era realm is going back to being a graveyard. Stagnant realms are the model that doesn’t work.
F R E S H is just a certain type of player, and people have a hard time understanding that.
Fresh players will drop Atiesh, 8/8 T3, TF, Scarab Lord, R14, etc just to start on a fresh server.
Because we’ve done it like 4-5 times now.
Seasonal is coming for you and all your fresh needs.

No, the losers that played on them got so accustomed to their realms being shut down over and over again that they’ve coped into the delusion that it’s a feature. And if you love pservers so much, then what are you doing on blizzard forums to begin with? Why aren’t you playing them right now?
A level 80 retail player’s concern-trolling doesn’t carry much value when discussing Classic WoW.
Another seasonal seems like the way to go.
I don’t know what they could do for Classic+ that won’t alienate a lot of people. The other problem is that a lot of addon content that would be cool and a good fit would retcon future expansions. It would be awesome to see a level 60 Karazhan for example but I just don’t see them deciding to do it, and there are many ideas like that.
Probably the biggest reason to want a fresh is it gives all those returning players and people who would do it all again a chance to come in at the beginning. WoW has always had the problem that a person hitting max level mid-late into it has so much to catch up on before they can “play” on the same level. Fortunately for Classic all the content stays relative forever for new 60s.
