First, no one cared when Classic was threatening to syphon off retail players.
Second, many players supported classic because they saw it as a path to expansions.
Third, the upleep is negligable; almost all of the content is already made outside of some work that might be needed for meshing the previous expansions into the current engine; after that all they need to do is flip the code flags to trigger patch updates.
*4th: there are players who would come back for TBC and wrath specifically because they were the highpoints of the games popularity.
First no one cares about retail on this forum (see the top its called classic forum) our focus is on classic.
Second, majority of those who supported classic did so because retail is hopelessly lost and currently no developer can find its way to be an actual WOW game.
Third, The upkeep is huge, you have servers instances to maintain, bug fixes to fix ask the current developers on classic how little the upkeep is? Any code that is fixed needs to be fixed somemore else where. Its a never ending story.
Fourth maybe, maybe not. If so the numbers will not be any where near the numbers for classic, besides most companies wouldnt want to risk alienating the current classic players that did come back.
But thats a bridge to be seen in 2 years, right now, I dont expect to see TBC for 2 years down the line if at all.
Iâm not seeing any disagreement with my allegation of hypocrisy.
Conjecture.
The upkeep is minimal all things considered, and by their own admission launching future expansions would be easier due to them understanding what needs to be fixed.
The current player base for classic is likely at itâs peak; it might go up a bit when phase 3 goes live and gives us BGâs to scratch the structured PVP itch that many people have, but long term not launching the expansions (which you have to admit a sizable portion of the player base is hungry for) will only serve to doom classic as those players leave and other classic players get bored of the museum tour of WoW 2004-2007.
I see that bridge being a whole lot closer, and blizz would be beyond stupid to not launch legacy servers for the expansions.
Flagged this, as Iâm sick of Retail players making posts about how Classic is dead, dying, or how itâs facing problems, or how TBC will kill it, or how WotLK will kill it.
There are some die-hard players that want Classic Forever. There are others that do not. Forcing an expansion on the die-hards will cause them to risk losing subs. The most logical step for them it to have separate servers and offer free transfers for a limited time. Classic servers will get merged as the population dwindles and, in the end, it would remain generally the same as it is now just with fewer servers.
It is inevitable because Blizzard is out to make money and, eventually, people will tire of Classic. Some of us even prefer TBC or Wrath. If you have an option between dropping an expansion that customers want and making additional money from it or⌠not doing that, which do you think they will choose?
Ion said Classic is here to stay even if it is a ghost town.
When Blizzard releases TBC which servers will get TBC?
Yes Blizzard is releasing TBC. Blizzard also wants you to let them know what other expansions should they release.
If all of them get TBC than there is no more Classic.
Blizzard knows not all players want TBC they just want to play Classic.
Why should I or any other player pay to transfer to another server?
You can not play Classic while you are on a TBC server.
The two are completely different games.
How else can Classic stay, even if they are a ghost town?
I can also write a wall of text on what I believe 100% on why Blizzard is releasing Classic and all other expansions. But I would rather be playing.
The last question is the only thing I need answered please.
Now please also give me time to find it on the forums. I do believe that is where I saw it.
when was this? about 6ish months ago was last time i kept track of what ion had to say on wow, since i stopped playing around then.
if i recall his wording went along the lines of âif classic does well we will consider adding tbc servers alongside classic and classic will always be available to play for anyone that feels like playing it.â
