If they add LFD it absolutely should not be cross-realm, cross-realm is by far the most destructive component of LFD. It reduces players to cogs in a loot machine and spoils group leaders for choice, which inspires a lot of unnecessary nastiness.
Really though I don’t see the issue. If you know a few tanks and healers (or roll one of those yourself) finding dungeon groups will be almost as easy as if LFD existed, but you’re making connections instead of treating players like NPCs.

Yep, World of Warcraft hit its peak not only in WoTLK, but after the release of 3.3 (really 3.3.5) reaching 12 million. It was 11.5 in 2008, and 12 in 2010.
Dungeon Finder didn’t seem to be a big deal breaker as subs actually went up.

They probably don’t want to implement it because there were so many problems with the original dungeon finder. Tanks could queue up with a buddy and leave and their friend would get an insta queue. Plus all the “ninja looters” that will happen because who cares if you will never see someone again. I’m sure there are more I’m forgetting.
One that’s becoming increasingly common in retail LFD is guilded players queuing, filling in holes with PuGs, and then booting the pugs at particular bosses to commandeer loot or just for kicks.
Include RDF at launch if you don’t want the expac to fail as miserably as TBC did

Agreed. But, if they are intending to NOT add it all, I’d at least compromise for having it added down the road.
Not having it at all is not really “classic” because it was there before. It’s not like adding it to TBC or Vanilla. WoTLK had the Dungeon Finder. Don’t get rid of it.

Like i said, i think they knew there would be a divide no matter what the decision was.
They could have added it, and then the forums would be flooded with the people voicing there perspectives about how bad it is, and the LFG lovers would be the ones having a field day. Either way, it was a pretty controversial thing back when wrath was current content, and it is controversial now.
I do think they will add it eventually, but who knows. It was a part of the later wrath of the lich king experience back when Arthas was the current raid tier. But i dunno.

The “community” that Blizzard wants is the SAME toxic clique environment they’re being sued for. It’s pretty obvious at this point that “community” is simply another way to say “clique” when talking to someone who doesn’t work at Blizzard.
Classic WOTLK will have no where near the player population numbers it did when it first launched and yet they want to encourage a “community” aspect by allowing paid and in-game boosts? Really? You allow boosts but preach “social” community interactions at the same time?
I guess if Blizzard wanted to make us forget about their lawsuits this was the best way to do it. Pull a fast one and make everyone forget Blizzard was a toxic environment by calling all of their players toxic and emphasizing a “social community” when Blizzard was toxic itself in the end anyway.
“Report spam” doesn’t do anything until after a toxic player has already done more than enough damage to everyone they’ve grouped with. And instead of fixing server population imbalances, Blizzard wants everyone to spend more money and buy boosts instead of playing the game by leveling.
How greedy and single-minded does Blizzard need to get before the classic servers finally die?

this is almost as bad as the Blizzcon ‘’ You don’t have phones?’’ moment

If the concern (as stated) was for “community” (valid), then why not make LFG server-only rather than cross-server (the way it is now)?
I wanted to play Classic when announced and have attempted to several times. But I got tired of spending a considerable amount of time spamming chat channels trying to get in on a group. Especially while knowing that most everyone is in Outlands while you’re trying to find a group for Scarlet. Just not fun.
I understand the “building community” part. Its a valid aim in an MMO. But not at the expense of frustration.

I REALLY hope they change their mind, WotLK was both my favorite expansion and the first Classic version I was actually interested in, but removing Dungeon Finder is a big disappointment. #NoChanges

Well I mean, even if they went the #NoChanges route, you’d only get LFD for the tail end of the expansion. It’d actually be a change to have it there from day one.

despite the popular sound-bite, the dungeon finder didn’t ruin the individual server communities. That happened around Cataclysm with LFR.

Not if they start Classic WOTLK off on patch 3.3.5 right off the bat.

Nah bro that happened when people realized you didn’t need a MMORPG to be social. Social media did this and nothing else.

That would be unprecedented, both Vanilla and TBC Classic started off in quasi-first-patch states.
There is a lot of truth to this.

What is ironic is that people arguing against LFD saying it negatively affected the community. If a community falls apart because a convenience is added, it wasn’t a community to begin with then.
An actual community comes together regardless of harsh, painful actions from an outside party. If a community dies or degrades because something is added, it was a clique at its core, not a community.
Blizzard needs to look up the definition of a community and accurately explain what they want, not gloss over the fact with PR buzzwords.
