WoW will kill wow, Ion has been killing it since WoD. I am a fan of both FFXIV and WoW and both games are different enough, but yes wow will die one day and it wont be because of an mmorpg…because of bad decisions by devs.
Then I’m going to edit my reply to add yours in there.
They are only listening because the subs dipped for retail wow.
As long as FFXIV doesn’t have a seamless world it’s going to take a lot to convince me to play it. Even if it does other things better, loading screens at the boundaries of zones on the same continent is something that should’ve been left behind in the mid 00s when WoW set the standard as a seamless world MMO.
FFXIV keeps getting better and better. It won’t kill WoW–DF failing will. I have to agree w you, “new” talents and dragon riding won’t be enough content to last two years
The only thing or game that can kill WoW is WoW itself. And it tried really, really hard with Shadowlands
There are very few games that are retaining players esp MMOS.WOW is not retaining new players and growing, nearly all games are losing players hand over fist. But FF14 is retaining and growing their playerbase year after year.On average 3.7 million players log into FF14 daily.WoW retail has around 1 million and Wow classic is around 500-600k.That is a huge difference in daily active players.Very impressed that FF14 continues to grow at such a rapid pace.
I really doubt it will as the two don’t entirely share the same pool of players. The real wow killer is profitability, once that drops to an unsustainable level they’ll pull the plug.
None of the wow killers have ever managed to kill it, but bean counters can.
Its not that bad, wow has loading zones too. Get an SSD and its no big deal, but if you need real convincing to try FFXIV…its prob honestly not for you if something like loading screens are a problem. The zones themselves are huge thought. Even the cities trump all of wow’s cities and make them look like towns.
Honestly hope neither dies. Competition is good, and forces each mmo to keep pushing the envelope. I just hope the wow devs step it up a notch in DF.
FF14 is leagues above WoW in terms of PVE, its not even a competition anymore. WoW is on life support, the game is truly not as alive as you think. And how could it? It absolutely sucks. Myself? I am just here to see if I witness a miracle in DF or its Blizzard as always (Betting hard on Blizzard as always).
After I realize DF absolutely sucks (likely will) I will finally be able to let my childish hopes for wow to rest.
It isn’t competition, though, any more than Cookie Clicker is competition for WoW.
WoW is an adventure game. FF is basically a digital coloring book.
Been running an SSD for years and am currently running a 2TB 980 Pro, still don’t like loading screens lol. If I had my way Blizzard would merge all the zones into a single gigamap and eliminate loading screens altogether, at least for those with good enough hardware. The tech is there, loading screens past initial login shouldn’t exist.
The really big thing ffxiv has over wow is world content to do. Even past expansion world content is relevant. Plus the golden saucer blows away anything in wow for pure enjoyment.
you like that azn screenflare co-op small group stuff? well then, enjoy.
FF is FAR more of an rpg than wow has been in what? 8+ years?
Id argue ff is a better RPG than wow ever has been.
Yes tell us all the big adventures you went on in WOW today.
Shadowlands had more world content than any previous expansion except maybe Legion.
Thing is… the people who say they want world content, are lying.
Was it the adventure to the bugged place? not playable until Tuesday?
I think they’re looking for particular flavors of world content. I don’t remember that complaint being nearly as common during Legion for example, and it wasn’t as common in BfA either.
