FFXIV is one of the best MMOs created, and with next expansion they will release a graphics overhaul. Something WoW has never seen, the game basically still looks the same as it does in 2004.
Since Shadowlands released my friends list died one by one. Then my guild… everyone switched to FFXIV. I’ve been trying to get them to come back to try the new expansion because there won’t be any systems like Shadowlands but no one cares… they are having too much fun on their island in FFXIV.
I hope Dragonriding is enough to keep players happy because there isn’t much else to DF.
and yet…here you are. must be trouble in paradise. I never feel like going to some other MMO’s forum to tell them how good WoW is… because i’m busy playing WoW.
Most people play both, especially because FFXIV and WoW expansions and updates get released opposite of each other so people can play both. I would bet they both even plan for that.
I think the genre in general is in trouble, but I do think FFXIV is on more of a right track then Wow currently. I know it’s like nuculear heat to say so, but it’s how I feel. I wish our devs cared about the product instead of the money they can make with it.
FFXIV will never kill WoW simply because both games have very different playerbases overall imo. They play completely different as well so yeah not happening.
I think we can ultimately blame Kodick for that one. Anyone who says they want to take the fun out of making video games shouldn’t own a video game company.
You know why people love FF14 so much? Because you don’t have to play it non-stop. If DragonFlight only has Dragonriding and some typical gearing up and seeing the content and that’s it. That is PERFECT. It’s a much healthier way to play the game. Play for 3-4 weeks and wait till next content release. Or play alts and go through the same loop again. That’s why people love FF14, it’s not an endless treadmill.
Also, WoW has updated it’s graphics multiple times. Each expansion brings updated art and graphics. If you think Shadowlands looks the same as Wrath… I just don’t know what to say. Also FF14 is a much worse looking game compared to WoW, in my opinion.
I have to say. All this over the top positive marketing towards FFXIV has made me less interested in even trying it. There’s no way everything is perfect in that game, yet people act like it is. If it was that perfect, it would have enticed players in a long time ago.
FF14 didn’t kill wow. FF14 was around and a good game for a long time. WoW if anything killed WoW. It was too toxic to it’s playerbase for too long and drove people off to try other games like FF14. While i do think the Devs are actually listening finally it might be too late. We will see.
Also while i like FF14 it is not my favorite game. I do go back and forth between WoW and FF when i get bored.
I think it’s appeal is that they genuinely add good things to the game to make it better. Is it the best mmo ever? No, but they try to make it better and better. With Wow every good decision is undercut by more bad ones.
I’ve tried it and the game is definitely not perfect. The only mmo that makes me come back is WoW and it’s mainly because I just think the game plays better than most other mmos out there in terms of combat and questing. FFXIV is overhyped I really dont get why people keep talking about it like it’s the best thing out there, but then again that’s their opinion.
