Shadowlands just took all my friends away and put them in ffxiv.
bwahaha, wow can only be killed by wow itself
It hasnāt killed it yet, and itās not about to. And FFXIV is starting to get bloated to the point that WoW was, in that thereās a ton of grind before you get to where all your friends whoāve been playing a while have been.
WoW and FF fill two different niches. For whatever reason, I just couldnāt stay into FF - it felt too slow for me.
Anyway, FF is a great game, but itās definitely not for everyone. The only WoW-killer out there is Blizzard Management.
That gameās engine is an atrocity
Ff14 is not in any way in competition with wow. Many devs there are fans of wow and the communities are totally different.
If wow dies or whatever, FF14 will have nothing to do with it.
I should have been more clear. I took issue with the last line of your statement. Thereās no evidence that the devs (Who likely donāt get any sort of bonuses or extra perks for making the game focused on monetization) are money hungry. Weāve heard over the years how little devs at Blizzard are paid (Having to live with roommates, or in their cars). If those programmers/engineers didnāt do it for the love of it, they would be able to make a lot of money elsewhere. This is also the case for many studios in the video game development industry.
Any dev for wow should be making 6 figures minimum.
It should be illegal for multi billion dollar franchises that pay employees so little. At its peak wow made a min of what? 144 million per month assuming every sub got a discount? So you could pay everyone like half a mil and still be rolling in cash.
This is dumb: they deserve better
if Final Fantasy kill WoW . Then i am going to play final fantasy alot of my friends play final fantasy too so if wow die then im still going to be happy. So win win
Oh I agree with you. The demand for new game dev talent is just as important as anywhere else, but theyāre often treated like absolute trash. If nothing else, they should be paid as much as anyone else in a high-skilled software development career.
I heard a lot of talk about it dethroning WoW permanently because Endwalker was going to be so good.
Havenāt heard one peep about FF14 since Endwalker launched, guess it wasnāt that good.
Only WoW can kill WoW, and theyāve gotten pretty damn close, particularly if DF drops the ball.
The developerās donāt get to make that choice. Bonby does and heās itching for a new yacht.
Jokes aside there are plenty of articles and reports of employees being underpaid. Look up the honor system for working at Blizzard where instead of giving them more money they give them merchandise. Bobby Kotick makes more than most CEOs given his field and multiple articles and reports have been made on that.
This game is a bussiness and they try to milk us for more than the monthly subscription all the time.
Do the developerās care? Sure, but their department heads awnser to Bobby and Bobby awnsers to the shareholders and the shareholders want money above all else. Record profits are the name of the game. Not a better game.
Also all the decades of contempt to player feedback makes me believe it. They only started caring about us when FFXIV started killing them on subscribers.
At the end of the day these developers do a lot of anti player things at such a frequency I cannot believe that they care about us beyond their obligations to their 9 to 5.
14 is fun and if it hadnt been such a bitter pill originally it probably would have gotten me away from wow but there is that whole āinvestedā bit.
As for killing wow, wow died a long time ago - we are just playing with the bones that were left behind, and every expansion we try to put the bones back the way they were like MMO paleontologists.
I thought wow was the wow killer
Storywise it was absolutely amazing. The gameplay though just isnt for me so I come back to WoW for the gameplay.
I play both personally, but for different reasons. WoW for the gameplay and FF14 for the story.
Where are the FF14 forums? Iām curious what they write about usā¦
Especially since we have SO MANY of theirs playing WoWā¦
The game industry is sick at its core when it comes to paying people.
But greedy management isnāt the only thing to blame. Itās absolutely absurd that many of the people playing these games (and begging for money while they do it) make more than the people who are making the games.
And part of that is because people freak out at a $5 extra charge, or an expansion going up by $10 over an older one, but think nothing of stuffing $200 in some streamerās wallet on a regular basis.
Many of the people who play FFXIV are WoW veterans, so Iām really confused where you pulled this from.
A lot of people picked up WoW in the old days who were never going to stick around because WoW wasnāt the game for them. They just played it for the hype and stuff, but to hear them complain they always hated everything about the game from day one.
People who still play WoW hate the game. Thatās hardly representative of the communities being entirely different.
