Worried FFXIV will kill WoW

Not really, no.

Do people who subscribe to the game and post on the forums all the time claim to hate the game? Sure.

i enjoy both games

I’m with you. However, I feel like when people catch up and burn thru the 10 years of content they missed they’ll realize end game is vastly different there. I love the story and scenery, but for day to day play it just isn’t for me. Both are two very different games with their strengths and weaknesses.

I guess the last 4 years have been a fever dream then.

It’s entirely possible that the people who now play FFXIV do so not because they never liked WoW but because they dislike what it became. WoW has changed immensely over the years. Nobody can claim that the WoW we have today is the WoW we had back in TBC or WotLK, or even Cata. I don’t know why this is such a far-fetched idea to think people who once liked WoW have now moved onto other games.

I think anybody who HATES WoW and still plays it is… well, I would wonder about such a person.

Can people have complaints? Sure. I have plenty.

Certainly, the emphasis is much more on the individual player with more solo content, easier content with inflated rewards, and random computer-created grouping.

And all of those things have hurt the game. Yet the people who claim to like FF14 better, all seem to want MORE of what Blizzard has been adding to WoW, and NOT what WoW originally was.

The whole thing is bizarre.

i played a good two years of ff14 before coming back to wow. i strongly prefer the combat fluidity of wow

Well that’s why the sunk-cost fallacy is consistently brought into the discussion. When you’ve been playing a game for 18 years and have spent endless amounts of hours in the game, it’s difficult for people to just drop the thing that has been a mainstay in their lives for that long.

I like WoW and want it to be better but I also think that were it not for my history with the game I probably would have bounced by now.

What’s your idea of solo content? Because my idea of solo content isn’t time-gated funnels that only exist to waste everyone’s time. Grinding out 3 different power grinds isn’t fun. I don’t think that benefits anyone because, realistically speaking, what does grinding our artifact weapon/HoA/covenant renown/conduits do that didn’t already exist within the gearing process/talent trees? Nothing. It’s a flimsy attempt by Blizzard to guise the fact that their solo content is extremely lacking, and they need something to keep people playing.

At one point, meaningful solo content did exist in WoW. Professions mattered, secondary professions were regularly updated, and the world itself felt better designed.

The problem with this argument is that it obfuscates the actual issue with solo content, that being that solo content just isn’t good. You look at the mountain of solo content in Shadowlands and say “Look! Blizzard is catering to solo players! Certainly this means that solo players have nothing to complain about” without scrutinizing it further and realizing that the solo content in question is nothing more than subpar filler content.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect Blizzard to put forth more effort when they make solo content. I look at FFXIV’s solo content (much of which doesn’t even have power attached to it) and I see a wealth of variety and activities that meet any demographic’s needs or wants from the game. Why is it so absurd and bizarre to expect the same thing from Blizzard? It’s not like they can’t afford it.

Ffxiv had two chances in a row to kill wow thanks to the worst expansions this game has ever had so far, bfa and sl and it didn’t become the wow killer everyone says it is/is going to be, so at this point its safe to assume ffxiv isn’t a threat at all.

No such thing as an anything killer. Everquest is still going for crying out loud lol.

In 2022 it is the de facto take. The amount of gaming options versus 2004 make it so.

Also, WoW is not a persistent world. ( part of the problem imo ). Azeroth proper is still cataclysm. Is it virtual and inhabited? Yes. Persistent? Meh not so much.

Its not toxic to be tired of hearing about it, This is the WoW forums not the FFXIV forums

The thing about FFXIV is that if you aren’t able to immerse yourself in the story, there’s almost no other reason to play it.

Beyond the story, End game consists of essentially doing the raid finder equivalent to wow and then spending the rest of your time either crafting, using the glamour system, customizing the house that you’ll never get, and trying to survive the cringe UwU ERP chat in nearly every city you walk in to.

From what I can gather based on their forums, much of the player base will play the new patch for the story and then take a break. There’s really no engaging content beyond that.

Of course, this is all my opinion. Others may find the game engaging for other reasons. It ain’t the WoW killer, though. Lol

Im not. Endwalker’s story was mid after coming off Shadowbringers and SE is doing SE things by not heavily reinvesting the profit back into their main profit maker.

FF14 could easily kill this game, but it wont because SE holds it back immensely.

Haven’t they been sharing space for almost a decade now?

It already did.

If that was the case, none of us would be here talking about if it did or not.

Weve done this dance for years – we have seen other Blizzard games killed for real. If this is WoW being killed? Then being the #2 MMO instead of #1 is literally the safest fate than anything else.

Yeah for casual who can’t put effort into a game I suppose.

In which way? Most graphics been over hauled, character models, spell effect. Even classic got water of retail. You need glasses.

If I was friend with someone like you who analyze games the way you do, I would have vanished too.

There is no way FF will kill WoW. Not because of which is the better MMO, but because they both play like two different kinds of MMOs.

A WoW player who loves WoW and how it’s built may have a difficult time branching over to FF. Same goes for vice versa. It’s apples and oranges.

As long as FF is owned by Square, it will never kill it. Square is single handedly the major reason why FF14 is #2 instead of #1

Such a blatantly false statement means this must be a troll. I miss the old days when it was harder to tell the trolls from the legit posts …
