looks like a bad rip off of existing mods to tbh… wow has a modable UI for a reason. please dont screw it up worse.
Are we sure about that? Currently on the beta you have the new UI on login. Could just be because they’re testing it, and I saw that there’s an option for “Classic” but it doesn’t seem to change anything right now.
I dunno, when I logged into the beta for the first time, it looks like the default UI.
You can edit the UI, but the placement and appearance out of the box was the default UI experience, to my eyes (I haven’t used it in years).
I could go into it and change things (like action bar width, number of buttons, placement, etc) but I didn’t HAVE to do any of that to get the default setup.
That was my first thought when I heard about it.
“OH GOD, Blizzard wants to auto target for me?!?!”
Yeah I guess we’ll see but with their track record for fixing bugs and other non functioning nonsense it takes them years to get around to correcting I’m not wholly happy about it.
The HUD customizations do look nice though
Was able to play around yesterday after getting into Beta and so far, I really liked what I saw things seemed bit more streamlined and not so cluttered but like others have been posting there are some issues.
- Minimap is bit too big is there any chance you can shrink it down to the size we have now.
- Keybindings are a pain to set sure I can click on the one I want to set but as far as I can tell there is no way to unbind one which is something I and am sure many players like to do.
- Any chance we can have a toggle between the new and the old style of the statues at the ends of the bars to me the new ones are just too tiny and personally I don’t like how they look rather use old style.
As I said only played around with it for a bit, but these are the most glaring issues I can see so far.
Please look into fixing these as well as other issues players may be having so as to make DF UI one of the best ever.
I just hope they make it where the target plates have it where it shows the buff on the targets i can dispel like in threat plates. The less addons we need the better the game will be for new and older players.
So looks nice for those who’ve been wanting a different UI set-up, but what about those of us who are/were happy with how the default UI is currently? I use an addon called ClassicUI, which restores the UI to its original version that existed prior to patch 8.0.1. I will still be using it come Dragonflight (assuming the addon author can get it working with all the under-the-hood changes), but here are my thoughts so far on beta without using any UI addon:
-
Classic default pre-set doesn’t go far enough in restoring the original UI, especially the action bar setup.
-
So far, I have been unable to find any option to adjust the size of the mini-map, which takes up way more space than I want it to. Additionally the font size is even smaller compared to live, with the bonus of the calendar button being much harder to see (yet again, compared to live).
-
What happened to the separate tracking list for various townsfolk services? Am I simply skipping over it?
-
Resizing the chat window should be more intuitive. I switched to the “classic” setting and initially didn’t realize the resize button was completely hidden and non-interactible thanks to the gryphons being in the way. I had to go back to Edit Mode, move the entire chat window, exit Edit Mode, resize said window, and then return to Edit Mode to move the chat window back. (Alternatively, upon further reflection, I could have briefly hidden the gryphons. It would have been at least one less step, but unfortunately was not the first solution that entered my brain.)
-
Can the collapsible button for the buff rows have an option to hide it? As small as it is, I find it irksome.
-
In general, the UI buttons (ignoring the action bars) appear overwhelmingly favored to be significantly smaller than they currently are on Retail. I find this baffling because while I can understand the minimalist goal you’re (mostly) going for, it’s eye-strain inducing for older players and those with visual impairments (I fall under both). Again, there needs to be more options made available.
-
UI setup should be consistent across all class specializations by default. Some players may desire to have differing layouts for each specialization they play, but I suspect the vast majority will not and only be annoyed at having to load their “default” preset on initial set-up.
That’s about it for now. Any further feedback at this point would just be circling back to “I want my old UI back”.
After doing some PTR testing, I like the new changes! It is very disorienting though since the sizes of things are a bit off.
The minimap especially. I lower my general UI scale a little which makes the map smaller, but the icons inside are even smaller. I can barely see the NPC icons now. I assume this will be ironed out a bit later.
After being used to default UI, the new stuff being a bit janky makes my stomach turn a little since I have a hard time seeing some things, especially when flying. I will get used to it but I can tell it’s still off and it’s hard for my eyes to focus. I hope to see more size options and a way to better unify the elements so some stuff doesn’t look too small or big. I use a laptop, it’s a larger size, but still a bit small for a lot of UI to fit unless I fully cover my screen in bars.

Some of what I mentioned there is done already though!
Amazing changes btw, but… More action bars please! Replace bartender entirely, give the option for more action bars!
I have Aspergers [Autistic] and have incredible difficulty keeping track of things like health bars and spell casting. To assist with this, I use an addon called ArcHUD, which makes health bars very large and warns when I’m getting too low. Prior to finding ArcHUD, I had issues with the itty bitty health bars under frames.
Please look into this addon and include this type of functionality for those of us with special needs. I cannot emphasize how much of a literal game-changer ArcHUD was for me.
Thank you. I am certainly looking forward to this new interface!!
Would love more options like being able to turn unitframe portraits square instead of a circle along with the minimap being square! Big fan of the bigger healthbars on default though, would love to be able to see an option to change the textures as well.
Small edit: But being able to increase the castbar length/width rather than just scale would also be a huge plus! Tons of other things like changing frame color and the option to change proc visuals would be amazing as well.
Will edit more if other things come to mind and if I remember to.
I would like to have several options for the quest system on the inGame screen. Hidden during battle, slowly turning invisible until mouse-hover in actual questing/running around in the content.
Made changes, likes and dislikes but workable. PROBLEM: how to get rid of the gold circles in the bags???
Please include some presets. Mainly a 1:1 version of the current UI on live. Personally i dont like editing the UI and I’ve been using the default one since I started playing.
Thank you.
I have not gotten in beta yet but have they fixed the target name plates with buffs and debuffs?
i like this. a bunch of modifiable presets so ppl can just tweak the one they like the most instead of going for an 8 hours UI setting session lol
Have they added snap to center and snap to grid yet?
Not yet, at least I don’t see it in yesterday’s Beta patch.
As of the last time I tried, the only thing I couldn’t move was the mini-map and quest tracker on the right side of the screen. They also had taken away the option to resize the chat window, I prefer mine taller and longer, and wasn’t able to make it do that.
I was checking last night and they still don’t have an option to move what I want either so it will obviously have the loot/achievements plaster themselves in the center middle.
Also I don’t know how my autohide questlog when in combat will work.
And big F if we can’t resize chat boxes any more. I like mine like I think a fourth bigger in overall area.
