Windwalker is Looking Incredibly Doomed for 10.2

some of us have been knocking on that door since bfa–lights are on but nobody is home. it was xuen stacking back then, and just tried zoo monk again before scratching completely in ptr because nobody wanted it. now just seems like spite because nobody found names like “ebontoes” cute (wrong class for cute).

as a monk all you continue to get is tuning to stay afloat (pve). every. single. tier.

from sef clipping to docj conduit explosion, shadowlands kept windwalker relevant from bugs. purely on a macro, if versatility is your main stat, best of luck to you.

I honestly don’t mind having vers as our best stat. Personally, I wish it scaled even harder for us, so we could reach plate levels of passive DR but for everything.

I’m more concerned with how poor the builds and the trees are.

They’re the same thing though.

If the builds are so uninspired that flat mainstat is all you have to look forward to, where’s any excitement in that next upgrade? Why do I care to get 3% more crit when I virtually get 100% free from Skycrack and Battlegear? How can I get excited for Legion mastery when it’s just more versatility for playing the rotation, Built As Designed?

We’ve talked before about secondary stat design too (We're gonna be waiting for a while - #38 by Ninjafeet-thrall). At least DH gets scaling crit damage with crit chance, or Ret has some haste variation with Crusading Strikes. That’s why my central position here is that Blizzard knows the class is decorated with hollow charms. It’s nauseating to keep saying “Rework” into a vacuum though with no recognition that it’s even going to happen.

Builds should change how you prioritize character development and allow dynamic stat values. Prime example: Monks have complained for years about poor haste scaling. Blizzard acknowledges its a problem but rather than adding mechanisms to manage it, they just back away from the problem and add flat skill damage. How many tiers of FoF buffs or FoF buffs the next skill have we seen? Almost all of them?

I hope they find a way to slip in unarmed melee priest into Classic Season of Discovery and find out how to make a better version of DPS Monk for Retail to emulate.

Bumping. Please buff and fix WW, no one in my raid wants me tanking again and I have been the one of the only token monks in my group since Nyalotha. I love WW and actually WANT to play it. I will play it even if it’s mid, just please don’t make us trash panda trash. Please save us, sweet baby Blizzard Jesus.

I have played off and on since release. I was on release for TBC, Cata, MOP, Wod, and SL. There is a reason i skipped nearly all of wod, Ll of legion, nearly all of BFA… the first patch of WOD where WW was topping the charts so needed nerfs sending them to the bottom… meanwhile mages got buffed from bottom to top.

They regularly kick monk in the teeth amd never for a good reason. Why is monk being forced to spend talents to get back thier baseline 2 rolls? Why is that roll charge tied to an ability 2 of 3 specs dont use?

It gets old seeimg faveroll specs getting to top meters/healing/tanking while playing a class that requires me to wear out my keyboard to be meh.

If there is some secret build they have internally showing Monk being better than we think it is then they need it to show us. Is there some build for WW no one understands? Is Brm actually far more tanky than anyone knows without needing an MMO mouse to function? Is it possible for all monks to pick up fun or flavor talents without completely gutting themselves and forcing thier friends to make up the difference?

I get where you coming from. However, a lot of specs’ masteries are just do more output. That said, I’m with you on the whole stat customization thing with talents in that there should be something to build around. Personally, I feel XBG could have all its nerfs reverted so we have an actual crit cap that we can build around. At the very least it’d let us dump some crit into vers or mast for output. Stuff like that I can get behind.

That’s half true.

Some masteries are just “do x% more damage”, or are simply a functional flat damage buff. Balance Druid and Arms Warrior are good examples of this.

There are some that are like that but also have utility twists cooked in too. Marksmanship getting bonus range and Chaos Emerald Destruction Warlocks having a random yield component are good hat tips to these flavors. Seeing a big Ignite actually is exciting and not quite the same, even if it’s just a flat damage yield on a meter. Even Ret Paladin’s flat holy damage amplifier adds flavor and theme to class design. While on principle they’re acting the same, there’s still an interesting difference in how each fulfills the class fantasy.

But really quick back to Astral Invoke or Deep Wooooons, those are probably also an unfair comparison since they’re both alongside Monk in being post-Legion homogenized reworks. Flat damage for “doing the things you normally do” without adding any class flavor (okay, this is half true too because at least Deep Wounds is kinda fun). Just because the design has gotten less fantastic in their work doesn’t mean that all masteries were created equal.

Rank 1 and people doing 30% more damage than me is epic

30% more and they’re only 95 parsing.

honestly, at this point, while it’d be nice, i’m just done with the spec until it gets a sizeable talent rework, i think the talent trees have been a pretty good success for almost every spec i’ve played since the start of the expac, even if they’re not perfect, and there’s some annoyance here and there, until they got their little reworks and changes and such.

but honestly, Windwalker’s talent tree has killed every last shred of enjoyment i’ve had for the spec, between the perma resource flood, aoe tod, FLS, etcetc, i’ve just never had less fun with windwalker than i’ve had in dragonflight

With them taking the time to update the animation of faeline stomp, I doubt it’s going anywhere anytime soon.

unless they give it to druid

which they could give monk nothing to compensate too, and at this pace would be believable misinformation

Next round of tuning -

Windwalker
•Crackling Jade Lighting damage increased by 5%

Don’t worry everyone! We’re fixed in 10.2.5! That garbage talent no one takes increases our chance to dodge by an additional 10% every time we fail to dodge!

Blizz really told us to

Even though they’ve been dodging fixing our trees since season 1.

I don’t play WW too much because of stuff like this but out of curiosity — has anyone made a build that takes all of the Blackout Kick Talents and Spinning Crane Kick talents and sim that?

I’m asking because I don’t see all of the blackout kick talents / SCK talents taken in your build

Also, does anyone know if ToTM blackout kick multi strike if only the first BOK benefits from the tier or do all the multi strikes? Seems like this would make a bit difference in terms of the output as well

It seems that with blackout reinforcement and the buff to CJL that they are intending for us to take the blackout kick talents, spinning crane kick talents, and try to optimize Capacitor somehow. Have people looked into that?

Ex something like this for ST
(Wowhead talent import)
B0QAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIJJJRJikEAAAAIRClERASCAAAAAAAAA

Goal is to land a SEF CJL on every Skytouch window during Bone Dust Brew and/Or Xuen, and making sure to have max ToTM stacks before every Blackout Reinforcement Kick?

Man I though that was a inside joke I missed… but no it is a patch note.

DH gets an entire page of updates, WW monk we get a buff to a worthless talent that no one takes and the buff is still worthless.

Blizzard is trolling at this point.

Spinning crane kick doesnt do much dmg on ST - not worthwhile to talent for it

Also it only applies to the first kick, not the ToTM hits.

Reasons why this build isn’t good:

  1. Widening whirl is 0 dps value
  2. Motc dmg contribution is close to useless in ST, maybe 800 dps
  3. RJW is never pressed in ST
  4. Crane vortex is just worse than Motc but 2 points
  5. BDB is ok but see above
  6. Xuens bond is worth maybe 600 dps, very bad
  7. Emperors capacitor is close to ok, but outshine by other talents
  8. Hardened soles competes with flashing fists, which is a 10% inc per point vs a 3% inc per point
  9. faeline stomp is worth ~4k dps and faeline harmony worth ~10k+ dps
  10. invokers delight and xbg are also worth 5k+ dps
  11. Strike of the windlord and thunderfist are worth >10k dps

Thats for ST which is where raid primarily is.

In M+ the same issues apply to ST, then for AoE its like

  1. Serenity is required as the free scks grant blackout reinforcement
  2. Xuens bond and emp cap are very bad in AoE
  3. RJW is sitll not worth casting as u want to alternate sck>bok in serenity and other spenders are better outside.
  4. stomp is just better than anything else on 3-5 targets
  5. due to 4 bdb is not playable (and youre running serenity anyways, so bdb loses value)

overall spinning crane kick just doesnt do enough damage to warrant talents into it. BoK does a lot but stomp is the best due to 3-5t increase

ST is very very bad, aoe is a better than last season

As a note I have two builds:

Raid ST: B0QAPOfh8E5EV1u1/5sg+UnhAAAAAAAAASEJJRLCkAAAAgEJJFAJJJJCSJJRkQrIJplk0SCAAAA
Keys: B0QAPOfh8E5EV1u1/5sg+UnhAAAAAAAAASEJJRLCkAAAAgEJJFAJJJJCSJJRkQrIJplk0SCAAAA

The only difference is the left side of the board. The Key build can be played in raid for anything with more than 1 target. The ST build simply has double ToD which is slightly better for ST since we can drop widening whirl and motc which dont do anything on 1t
