It’s really hard to make new MMO’s. FF14 is so successful because of how much content it has made over the last 10 years. New players that start final fantasy have so much stuff they can do.
WoW on the other hand, doesn’t really capitalize off its past expansions as much but puts out expansions that can sell and keep people busy enough.
If the Riot MMO focuses on end game like WoW, and takes the good parts but leaves out the bad parts, then I can see WoW being in trouble. I don’t think it’ll affect Ff14 though because people like that game for other reasons
People can make inferences based on user participation, like the armory or MAU reports at earnings calls, to observe general trends. That doesn’t give you exact, precise numbers, but it can inform a reasonable ballpark estimate.
I don’t personally buy that MMORPGS are dead from a player perspective. I think it is more likely that companies don’t want to invest insane amounts of money on a game genre that will not see as much return on investment even if it manages to conquer the risk of failing outright. What games manage to get made tend to be WoW clones, so the market has been stagnant for approaching two decades.
Put another way, there is still a decent chunk of MMO players dispersed throughout many more games. If another title came along that redefined the genre like WoW initially did, you’d see crazy populations again. Maybe not 12m+, but enough to drop some jaws.
I had a few friends who were talking it up and it was just the most obvious thing ever to me that it would flop. Idk how anyone was suprised by it when the only good thing about it really was the graphics lol.
If I wanted good graphics and boring gameplay I would go outside.
You just want to get lost in the weeds over a number and disregard the primary point in the rebuttal. If you want to claim that WoW didn’t lose players to a multitude of games over the years, you are either saying the game still has at least 12m+ active subscriptions or that none of the players leaving went to those other titles.
all im asking is for a reliable source of this information? If we’re just making up numbers then lets just put that out there.
otherwise why is it such a struggle to just say where you got this info? oh right because you believe one can just log in and “know”
Swallow the pill and admit the bellular video got you. he got popular by being overly critical of wow during the peak of the lawsuit stuff. He doesn’t work for blizzard and you’re safer on tiktok than his channel for info.
The thing about Riot is they already have a hugely popular IP and they have the money to not rush. They’ve also got the money to buy good developers and they have a proven track record. They’ve got League. They’ve got a popular show. They’re printing money.
They’re basically were Blizzard was with the WC IP. All they have to do is capitalize and show up.
Wow has a belligerent amount of stuff to do, I would be surprised if FF had more than Wow. Not having played FF I can’t say for sure but I’d imagine that the content to do caters to difference audiences.
Bellular is one person that attempted to parse the data at hand. I’m not really interested in Bellular, or the actual number of active subs beyond the fact the number is not a drop in the bucket compared to the WotLK days. You tried to laugh away the notion that players left WoW for competitors over the years, but WoW has shed millions of players.
Anyone claiming that Wow hasn’t lost players to other games is smoking refined Outland crystals
Of course Wow has lost players to other games. Every game ever created has, that’s like making the argument that Company A hasn’t lost employees to other companies.
My laptop won’t be able to play it [unless I can earn enough for a desktop again] ~ and they won’t have lol tokens then no. I’ve realized I won’t make friends there, and won’t do anything that is worth the money I’m spending.
Seeing their track record of sorts, they may jump into this genre and really do well. So far, the games they’ve copied have done really well.
But the LoL community is one of the worst so not that interested.
i will agree with you if you can just show a source?
i just can’t take you serious if you’re honestly on the notion that you can seriously just log in and know by feel.
look at my account activity. i raided almost a year ago and that’s about it until very recently so i can assure you I’m not a shill for blizzard. I just can’t take made up math as fact.
