Will Cataclysm be Dead on Arrival?

False.

Obviously it’s not the only way, but let’s be honest…a ton of players do it. Hopefully Blizz bans GDKPs in Cata Classic. The Boosts Blizz sell aren’t going anywhere, sadly. So the leveling experience will never mean anything. They killed that way back in TBC Classic with the Boost.

I think is is a loud minority doing the whinge. I do not believe for one minute they represent the majority of the playerbase. I think Cata will have a servicable population at launch and since Blizzard have said the pace will be quicker than the original release ie minimal content drought, I think it will go fine. Time will tell. But I will tell you this: better to level a character in preparation fof Cata and have Cata dead than not level a character and be left behind if Cata takes off.

It will be fins Cata was actually pretty cool. BC was the best however and the worst was by far Panda… I still cant stand even thinking about the pandas so stupid. I guess the best way to say this is.
The panda expansion in World of Warcraft was received poorly due to its departure from the game’s traditional fantasy themes, such as elves and orcs, to a more whimsical and cartoonish setting. Many players felt disconnected from the pandas’ storyline and struggled to relate to the new content introduced in the expansion. The shift in tone alienated a portion of the player base, leading to dissatisfaction and criticism of the expansion’s overall direction.

Cata will explode in popularity in the first month or so of launch. Every new game does. So I think that’s to be expected. They said Cata will come with some #Changes during the BlizzCon announcement. Whether those changes will be something meaningful, or if they simply meant the WoW Token will be in it, only time will tell.

Even moreso than the Panda’s though was the horrible content droughts. While the idea of playable Pandas were dumb, especially because Chen was just a joke character in WC3 and wasn’t cannon, Cataclysm really set a precedent for really long content droughts with the Dragonsoul patch running for like 9 and a half months or so. Then Mists of Pandaria one-upped that with the Siege of Orgrimmar content drought that lasted 13 months, followed by patch 6.2 the following expansion that lasted over 400 days.

Thats kinda racist

Yes and no. After its initial hate, it was received as one of the best WoW expansion, competing with Lich King. Well balanced pvp, tons of content, next level raids, a legendary for everyone with a long story quest, timeless isle that is one of the features that still exists in retail to this date, alt friendly and monks just being insanely fun.

The idea and the pandering is what most did not like. in one word it was chilerish

Great that you did not like the idea of Pandaria. I didn’t like the storyline of northrend, its boring at best.
Doesn’t change how it was received during its runtime.

Cata sucked and the reason so many players stopped renewing subscriptions. WotLK was way more entertaining as evidenced by the $millions in revenue that were generated when they rolled out the classic option. A lot of players want to stop at WotLK instead of being forced to quit when Cata is shoved down their throat again.

Wrath is literally the only era server that would succeed. This whole classic era/SOD thing is cringe. Wrath was the pinnacle of this game. We need wrath+ not classic+

and by wrath+ I don’t mean content after LK. I mean parallel content to existing content with no catchup mechanics. Catchup mechanics are a crutch.

Wrath was the “pinnacle” of subscribers back in 2009, yes. Also the first expansion that actually stopped increasing subscriber numbers.
But this is CLASSIC. Last time I checked we are 2024. Wrath is currently more dead than any TBC Classic and Vanilla Classic patch was. Time has changed, Wrath didn’t age well even if some aspects of the game are fun.

While I sort of agree, this will never happen. There is no world where Blizzard is supporting Wrath+ content while also working on Classic+ content, progressive servers and retail. It would just be LK 30% until your last breath which you can already see is not very attractive. They would have to drop the entire Vanilla hype which isn’t happening soon.

If you want to get technical, the pinnacle of WoW subs was early Cata.

You could even argue that Wrath’s hype didn’t live up to the expectations.

WoW was the topic of choice during lunch breaks in school.
People hyped it up. More people joined. Just 2 years later a lot of people quit.

And no, none of them quit because old world got revamped. They’ve known it for like 1-2 years only. No one grows such an attachment to Wetlands.

At the time, Wrath was good. By today’s standards, it’s all right. Cataclysm is all of that, but better imho. And MoP is even better.
